US Congress just passed HR 1865, "FOSTA", seeking to subject websites to criminal and civil liability when third parties (users) misuse online personals unlawfully.

Any tool or service can be misused. We can't take such risk without jeopardizing all our other services, so we are regretfully taking craigslist personals offline. Hopefully we can bring them back some day.

They are going to go to another autistic dating site. Unless they the site is letting users sell their cloaca and prehensile penises for cash the feds aren't going to do shit.

craigslist pulled their personals for the same reason backpage pulled theirs in 2017. It was notoriously used by escort services to find johns using only thinly veiled language and sec 230 to get around it. That is now a no-no.

im unfamiliar with pounces layout, did it actually let users sell services on its website? if so, wouldnt it be a really easy fix?

I suppose. Though i would guess that the open format of classified postings make it so they would always have a bit of risk. Likely requiring a moderation team to keep everything above board.

My guess is that they couldn't find someone they could trust to screen the postings for free and just gave up. I would also presume that they were looking the other way on a bunch of shady shit or else finding some gross weirdo to do the job wouldn't be that difficult a task.
