Emory University has launched a program to limit internet access by students who have refused to get a COVID-19 booster shot, the school said.

The program is designed to encourage students to get a COVID-19 booster shot. The school’s policy requires students and faculty to have a COVID-19 vaccination and a booster shot.

Students who have not gotten three vaccinations were notified in February that their internet access would be limited, or the speed slowed if they did not either show they had the booster or had requested an exemption from getting the shot.

About 1,300 students had their Wi-Fi restricted around the week of March 14.

The executive director of Emory’s COVID-19 response and recovery, Amir St. Clair, told the Emory Wheel that about half the students who had not had the booster then got it or requested an exemption after the program began.

‘The Wi-Fi restrictions were a valuable compliance measure to help promote participation,” St. Clair said. “Our hope is that it will continue to have an impact.”

St. Clair told the website that if students submit proof of booster vaccination, their internet access should be restored within a few days.

Exemptions must be reviewed and approved first, St. Clair said, which can take seven to 10 days.

So to do work then they'll have to go out in public and expose even more people to their deadly presence? Genius.

Although knowing the sheep there are today, they'll cave for that sweet sweet dopamine.

While I'm all for fucking with college kids, forced compliance like this isn't a good thing. If they can force them to get vaccinated by restricting necessary services on campus, they'll use this to force other shit too.

And much like high school/the public school system, literally nothing changes when you go into college.

"You're getting suspended for wearing a black/white/grey striped beanie hat because you didn't pay up $15 for a school beanie with the school's logo stitched onto it, we're calling it a dress code violation. We don't give a shit about your record either!"

"Hey, yeah, we're fucking over your internet bandwidth because even though COVID actually isn't a danger to anyone, we're still part of the Globohomo Collective, and if you go against a college's ideals in any way, then we have to punish you for it. Get your poison shot now, thanks!"

It is fucking disgusting how pretentious and overreaching the whole education sector is.
These people are adults. Staff should not be disciplining university students as if they were bratty 8 year olds.

A vaccine so Safe and Effective that you need to throttle people's internet connection to force them to take a booster that they don't need or want (seriously, what kind of shitty vaccine is this where you need two shots and two boosters, and can still get infected?). Gotta hand it to these guys, I never thought they'd stoop to doing something this petty.
