I don’t mind Hawke being a NPC, but it’s criminal they are written out of the narrative after Adamant(even if they live).

It’s one of the things that always was a problem for DA-multiple protagonists.

The woke want edgy but only safe edgy. Sexual violence towards women is wrong no matter what and yet you see these people praising that stuff in Game of Thrones. And dont you dare have racism, both real and fantasy, because thats too "real" or the writer "isnt in the position to talk about these issues". They want swear words but GOD FORBID if even the villain calls one of the gay characters a faggot, stop the fucking presses. Just look at the Castlevania Netflix show, that show is safe edgy as far as the eyes can see and dont get me started on its negative portrayal of Christianity but its neutral/positive portrayal of other religions (real subtle there, guys) and of course "Wu waz kangz and shiet" in its most recent season with ancient egypt having niggers.

Lets just accept that leftists dont really know what they want, hell, they dont even know what gender they are anymore so excuse me for not thinking their opinions are worth much. And the election did show they arent as numerous as they want you to think they are. They are the trigger warning generation that wants violence but not too much of it. Asshole, there is no "lite" Dark Fantasy, you either are it or you arent.

it was far easier to write this shit back in the day before social media wasnt a thing because you are writing for fans of the genre who know what to expect and know what they want.
Wokes are childish in how they handle heavy topics, either not wanting them at all in a puritan way, or calling any depiction of topics like rape or racism a masterpiece in spite of how poorly it's handled (Like the FOMO trooncore indie game Mouthwashing)
When they write it themselves, it's extremely stupid, or worse, a barely disguised fetish.

There’s also the fact that the Tumblr crowd has the thinnest skins imaginable.

You see them complain about say the broodmother in Origins-(yes it’s a clear rape allegory), but they can’t stand it. They’ll argue against anything like that in video games because at the end of the day-these are very soft sheltered people that like their PG nursery bubble and won’t tolerate anything else.

These are also the sorts of people that the developers at BioWare spent the last decade listening to.

Capitalism and art are inherently opposed.
Hard disagree.
Great art stands on three pillars which can, but don't have to, intersect.
Risk taking, limitation and devotion.
The first is the core of capitalist entrepreneurship,
The second is mostly dictated by the tools/funding one have, and more is not rarely less.
And lastly devotion, which, when channeled properly, can give us the likes of Bach or Terry.

Wokes are childish in how they handle heavy topics.
This is why every single movie, television show, video game, comic book, and everything else made by these modern fag writers is filled with constant quips and silly dialog and jokes. Stupid jokes and gags during the most critical moments that determine the fate of the world. Nothing can be serious. Final battles, boss battles, near deaths, actual deaths, nothing can be met with anything but comedy.

They don't live serious lives and then neither do their characters. Both their heroes and villains are poorly written. Superficial. Forgettable at best. Yet these talent devoid losers utterly dominate every facet of the entertainment industry. And people will complain in the faggiest ways possible as well. Using acceptable terms like 'woke' instead of ripping on niggers, fags, and kikes. Using neutered language like the 'woke' rodents that they claim to despise yet embrace their need to use soft words instead of being honest.

DAV lost its "mostly positive" rating on Steam.

I'll take any clocks for this but I feel it's relevant.

The title is wrong. The problem is not how much you pay the writers. "Trick" Weekes got paid entirely too much. Writers do better when the issues they face daily are the same the common man does. "Trick" was so sheltered the biggest problem in his life was getting people to respect his pronouns and not laugh at his blue hair. Nobody can relate to that except other blue haired genderspecials.

Call me a sellout, but I actually felt that Dorian’s gay stuff was handled with deftness and tact.

Part of it is the acting but also the context, the split with family, the feelings of anger and frustration and, having to burn yourself to deny your urges.

Apparently Gaider was basing it off his own experiences.

Dorian's stuff is alright, plus it only comes up because his father shoved himself into the picture.

Aside from that, Dorian doesn't go around bleating "BUT I'M GAY!!!!!" He's just a theatrical show-off masking a slew of insecurities and daddy issues underneath that facade. From conversations, I believe he's much younger than he looks, and he immediately looks up to the Inquisitor as his new Mommy/Daddy that will make everything right and validate his own personal beliefs about what is right and what isn't.

Shame that the end of his romance is shitty compared to some others.

So speaking of acting, who are everyone’s favorite VAs or if you don’t know that the best acted scenes in the series?

I honestly can’t think of any singular stand out moments, but Claudia Black in Inquisition breaking down and begging Flemeth was very good.

The aforementioned Dorian scene.

Probably Eve Myles performance as Merrill when Merethari dies. Also any scene the Arishok is in in DA2.

Alistair’s tantrum when Loghain is recruited and Loghain explaining why he hates Orlesians.

I guess I’m asking what scenes strike out to you as being well acted/compelling in that sense?

Actually you know what-Lady Isolde in Origins.

When she breaks down and begs you not to kill her demon possessed son. The actress completely sold that scene.

That’s the best acted scene in all the games.

Well, when you refuse doing the dark ritual with Morrigan, is one of the best most-groundbreaking moments in Origins. She basically begging you indirectly and you showing her face to bring a demon is priceless.

The filler quest about giving a nug to Leliana is stupidly innocent and funny.

The other excellent scene in Origins is when you ditch off Alistair of the throne. Was another sad moment. Saying to him is a fucking pride faggot about being emotional to Duncan after sparing Loghain is based.

In DA2 i think about Merril breaking into pieces after that elf leader's death.
Killing mercy Anders is good too.

I don't remember any DA: I good acted scene more than Morrigan. At least if she romanced the Warden in Origins she talks so fondly of him. It's almost criminal in a sense. Same as Leliana.
But i think the entire character arc of Cole and the silly scene of Cassandra basically asking Varric if he can finish his porn fanfic book is pretty good.

mark my words, when he dies the receipts will come out about how many kids he diddled.
Meh, the Irish have as big of a chip on their shoulder as the blacks do. He's 100% a true believer like the green brothers and he easily has diddled less kids than the green brothers and Tumblr have been investigating them for a decade now.

Could we start a thread here? I know v is just a shill website now but the plot summary is good and it's the sort of dumb plot youd have seen in anthology shows back in the 90s.

It's sort of telling how indie games in general the past dozen years are mainly heavy on the story "walking simulators" that would tell the sort of dumb stories you'd read in short story collections or see in anthology shows back in the 20th century. Like I imagine Thomas Ligotti would have been huge in the gaming sector if he started his career a couple decades later. Our temporary supervisor screams indie horror game.

Plenty of creatives who can at least get YouTube react channels to play their indie horror game while it's insanely common for an author to sell 100k copies of their books and barely be known. You're better off game and Fortune wise making the indie game.

Like a recent contestant on wipe out was an author that sold millions of their latest book but was so unknown the hosts talked more about her putt putt skills than that.

To be fair, YouTube titles often have to play YouTube's retarded games if they want any chance of having reach. Plus a lot of people are tired of culture war shit and seeing 'woke' in a video title is an instant red flag, regardless of if it's for or against.

Personally I'd be far more inclined to click on a video with the current title than something like 'Dragon Age; Normal vs WOKE Writing'.

Dragon Age Origins has an excellent cast all-around. I think my favorites are Corinne Kempa as Leliana, Peter Renaday as Duncan and Mark Hildreth as Sten.

DA2 is good all around, too, but only the Arishok stands out.

I barely remember anything about Inquisition, but I vaguely recalled Corypheus being appropriately intimidating.
Corypheus is probably the coolest villain in dragon age, an ambitious mage who was deceived by his gods, saw the seat of the gods and found it empty and was then corrupted by the taint, now that he knows the gods have abandoned thedas and seen the state of it he decides to become a god himself and usher in his own new world. better then a dragon and crazy anti-mage lady thought inquisition can't really claim credit for it since he appeared in DA2

My thoughts on DA2 is-as a story it’s arguably the best of the series, but as a game it’s rushed and uncompleted.

Ultimately DA2 is deconstruction of the common BioWare trope “super human special person saves the world and changes history through their sheer awesomeness”.

Hawke is kinda normal but he is also a very powerful, charismatic and influential figure. The rub is Hawke ultimately isn’t driving the events-unlike what Cassandra thinks, he is swept up in the current.

Hawke repeatedly takes blow after blow-losing most of their family throughout the game, even their gained status and wealth. Love isn’t enough, power isn’t enough, being good at killing people isn’t enough.

What are they not good enough at? Overcoming structural oppression/challenges.

Hawke alone can’t make Meredith not violently hate Mages or stop the inevitable desire for mages to be independent. He can’t undo the animosity between the chantry and the Qunari.

Whereas the hero of Ferelden and the inquisitor(and I’d argue Rook now) basically take history and make it their bitch-changing the fate of civilization, Hawke tries to go up against well the problems and prejudices and historical motions that drive them-and he can’t win.

Hawke can’t single handedly overcome animosities, problems and people that have been brewing for a thousand years.

No matter how many people they kill or how much gold they acquire or even falling in love with someone(Anders, Merrill, Isabela)-can’t change that.

Hawke can’t even protect their own family.

Again I want to emphasize Hawke is not a pushover, Hawke is not a pussy. He fights hard, kicks ass, and does inspire people. But one man or woman can’t on their own somehow overcome the problems of Kirkwall(Thedas in miniature).

Kirkwall is basically all the problems and “dead weight” of history condensed into a single place.

A legacy of slavery under Tevinter, the place where the veil was breached, Sundermount is likely where Mythal and Solas sundered the titans. The oppression of the Mages, and even things like the animosity between Orlais and the free marches.

Hawke is in a city that reflects all that bloody ugly history and its legacy. That’s why Kirkwall is a demon magnet shithole.

And despite all their efforts-they fail. History wins and Hawke is cast into the currents. Hawke can’t overcome Kirkwall.

As a game though, it is unfinished. We see this with the reused assets in caves and rooms, act 3 being rushed, etc…

As a story it has been undeniably impactful. People still passionately debate Anders vs Elthina/Meredith to this day.

You don’t see people arguing about whether or not Blackwall is a good guy or if Morrigan is a bitch or tsundere. But fans still argue about whether or not Anders was justified and the Mage John Brown or he was a creepy incel terrorist narcissist that deserved to be beheaded.

(I tend to think the latter). DA2 is thus the most unique and I’d say the best story.
