How is this even an RPG? You can't control your party members and all you have is 3-4 abilities that you select from a Mass Effect style power wheel that have cool downs.

By that standard hero shooters are RPGs.

Except you could have literally one combat action (swinging a sword) and it'd still be considered an RPG.

Lol

As far as I know, it probably is. I mean, they can retcon it, but with it occurring in multiple spin off sources as well as a show made to drum up hype for the next instalment, I'm pretty sure they wrote it with the intent of it being canon.
Meredith was corrupted by the red lyrium idol, which apparently was in her body. She's immobile and basically a living toxic statue, but its not like she's up and talking and moving tbf.

More GameInformer "exclusives" (paid product placement):

Specializations:
- Rogue: Duelist (two blades), Saboteur (trap specialization, perfect for trannies), "Veil Ranger" (archer)
- Mage: Necromancy, "Evokers" (elemental magic), Spellblade ("magic-infused melee attacks", so arcane warrior but with fists?)
- Warrior: Reaper ("ah yes etc." - steals life to "gain unnatural abilities"), Slayer (two handed), Champion (defense)

- Each faction has "unique casual wear" (worn in cutscenes) and "three unique traits"
- "The message of The Veilguard is you're not saving the world on your own – you need your companions, but you also need these factions, these other groups in the world"
- Mirror of Transformation is back so you can change your physical appearance, but you can't change class, lineage (race), or "identity"

Even the class specializations aren't very unique.

The fac that the "specializations" are mostly tings that were just things you could do as a member of a given class back in DAO pains me. The specilizations in DAO were actually unique abilities, like Templars' anti-magic abilities, rangers summoning animals, or blood magic.

Cassandra has a lot of depth
Yeah but she's ugly.
Cole is a mercy-killing spirit weirdo
Yeah but he's ugly.
Blackwall has a great twist that is well foreshadowed.
Yeah but it's pretty obvious he's faking if you take him along for any of the grey warden stuff.
Iron Bull retconned the Qu'nari to troon enablers, but otherwise he was fine
He was pretty fucking reddit. I wish any of the faggot losers at Bioware had actually ever talked to a soldier or thought ten seconds about what a mercenary might actually be like. They also tried really fucking hard to turn "Ride the bull" into a meme.
Someone at BW must be really attached to the character because when you fuck over other characters like Anders and Fenris it tends to stick from what I recall.
Not being able to get even with Isabella is the worst. In my first playthrough I didn't get enough friendship points so she just straight up abandons the city to die and takes zero responsibility. You never see her again. It was so fucking lame.
How is this even an RPG?
The defining feature of any Western RPG is the ability to decide which of your party members gets to stick their (girl)cock up your ass. The rest of it is negotiable.

Cassandra kinda does have the sort of butch lesbian look, which makes it all the more surprising, she's a strict heterosexual romance and she insists on traditional courtship.

Cole isn't meant to be attractive? He's a spirit imitating a random village boy who was beaten and left to starve to death by the templars. He's unkempt and haggard, that's part of the character.

Blackwall is meh? I don't dislike the character and it becomes very obvious if you've played Origins he's faking.

As for Iron Bull, he's playing a spy whose cover is a glorified frat boy. I did a romance with him as a female human mage character and it was...good honestly? But yeah, he doesn't come off as a mercenary, or a grizzled veteran-he'll tell you about Seheron, and even that he volunteered for re education because of how bad it was on his psyche, but he comes off as a bit too light weight. The womanizing exotic foreigner and the liar/deceiver need not have been undercut by making him come off as a more realistic soldier.

And we do see him ingratiating himself with the other party members, and basically deceiving the inquisitor to the very end if you sacrifice his mercenaries.

I like the character but I agree he comes a bit too reddit, if not in substance then in gravitas(or lack thereof). Is Iron Bull the mask, the lie he presents? Or is Hissrad not an encapsulation of who he really is?

Inquisition deals a lot with deception and identity. If anything, if they had emphasized him being a grizzled veteran-it would have enhanced the story of him as a spy and deceiver.

The weird thing is Freddie Prince Jr. plays James Vega in ME3 and he comes off like an actual jarhead/military grunt. So its not a problem with the VA.

But I don't want a game with a message. I want to be the main character in a cool story that's been set up for ten fucking years.

The message of The Veilguard is you're not saving the world on your own – you need your companions
I blame Marvel for killing off the God/Saviour storylines, when the team were there to follow YOU on YOUR journey and be part of a crusade/cause.

Why does my character, in a fictional universe, have to a loser faggot who need to go cap-in-hand to other groups for help? It's not fun.

The specializations seem like the same old, same old for the most part. It's nice to see two-handed warriors back, though.

There's a difference between not being designed as attractive and being actively difficult to look at.
This, most people irl are average looking and I think most gamers would be ok with average looking characters.

These characters aren't average looking, they look like diseased feet.

I never got that feeling at all? Cole has messy hair, IIRC something of an overbite and a sort of peasant piggish look with a wide face, he's not meant to be a model.

He also wears a long hat, so you can't get a good look at his face anyway.

I think we can all agree Origins is the pinnacle of the series. I'm not expecting much from Dreadwolf.

I did recently replay Inquisition and all the DLCs/side content. Took over 100 hours. It's a lot of meh. Typical open world Far Cry/AC big areas with filler content for padding. Thought the companions were pretty meh. Skyhold was a good addition, but EA has been killing this series since DA 2.

EA is going to mass market this game which means simplified game mechanics and less depth. Everyone needs to feel included so they'll push the inclusivity bullshit despite gaming still being dominated by straight males. Your romance options as a straight male character will probably be shit again like in Inquisition. Cassandra isn't Morrigan or Leliana let's face it.

Dread Wolf probably won't come out any time soon, and if it does it'll probably just be another Anthem. I couldn't honestly give a shit about the story of the series at this point. 10+ years is a long time to expect your fan base to continue a convoluted plot line.

These games are best ranked by the order in which they released. Origins is the GOAT, but we'll never get anything like it unfortunately. DA 2 really should have just been a spin off game, and you can really see EA's influence, but I still think it's worth playing despite the retard who advocated for wave based combat. Holy shit I hope that guy is dead. I'd say Inquisition is just okay, but it's a massive game in which the world doesn't deserve your time. Inquisitor is a dumb character and the plot falls flat. What was the motive for Corypheus? Fuck if I know I doubt anyone remembers. I do remember the Arch Demon, and the Mage/Templar plot and the motives behind that.

That's it I'm done
