Where in 2 was that ever mentioned? Was that a dialogue option or banter I missed?

Though most fun with Isabella was the foursome (Isabella, Leliana, Zevran, female warden) instead of playing a dice game.
Have Oghren in the party and the bearded midget faints from just imagining the scene.

They're really trying to make us forget that they set Solas up as major antagonist. Instead of focusing on the sloppy bait and switch, people are focusing on the theory that Rook can fuck him.

To me, it sounds more like a Johnny Silverhand kind of situation. But with the perceived threat to their ship looming closer, now fangirls are starting to question the story direction. Then you have the degenerates who scream NEW POLYCULE UNLOCKED. But even they are getting side-eyed hard now.

Speaking of degenerates...
The game director has weighed in on mage combat.

Love the quotation marks. Remember: you will never be a real woman mage.
Let's make elemental magic "magicneutral" and it depends on the stick you are wielding.

On one hand nice idea on the other it make it feel out of place. Might be because I am more used to different skill trees usually divided by the element you want to specialize in

Didn't get the sense that Solas won't actually be the main antagonist from that, just that the "Veilguard" group is more the focus.

And I hope they don't backtrack, this trope of bad guys being redeemed because women and gays are horny and want to virtually bang them pretty tired and stupid.

It's confirmed that he won't be the main antagonist at all. You trap him in the Fade very quickly and the big bads turn out to be two of the Elven gods that he was trying to keep imprisoned. One article compared him to Marvel's Loki.

Elgar'nan was always written up as a Zeus-ian figure of rage and impulsiveness wrapped up in celestial majesty. This guy looks like a special needs student.

I'm not saying he won't look better in the main game, but eesh, what a terrible reveal.

Ghilan'nain looks appropriately eldritch, at least.

Anyone remember when Aveline would always choose the boring guy at the office in spite of your attempts to flirt(whether you were male or female).
A frustrating moment where I respect the game for having her not interested in you, but also pissed because she was the only companion I wanted to romance...

Ghillan'nain apparently made the Halla using elves and did some other stuff in Tevinter nights-the implication is she created a lot of the monsters that plague Thedas.

TBH have we gotten any good depictions of the DA elf gods? I don't know of any official art that exists? That isn't a mural somewhere in game you'd miss.

I don't know if I liked that. On the one hand it made her feel like her own character with agency, on the other hand all the romance options sucked ass.

There are mosaics in DAI, and Origins had statues in the Dalish camp.

Don’t insult Merrill like that.

She’s my favorite innocent waifu secret demon dealing blood mage.

You just don't understand. All those demons and crazed blood mages that attack the party? They were just having a bad day and are the minority. Most demons are decent folk, and blood magic is just misunderstood.
#notalldemons #demonlivematter

I really don't understand what they were thinking with her. I could see arguing that blood magic is just another tool to use but the demon simping was just outright retarded.

Merrill doesn’t think demons are good though? She just doesn’t make an arbitrary distinction between spirits and demons. “There’s no such thing as a good or bad spirit” all fade creatures are dangerous but she reasons that if you’re careful you can work with them. She makes a deal with a demon, knowing full well the risks.

Merrill’s pride is she doesn’t consider how her actions affect others. Which is why Merethari gets possessed to save her.

I have a 'Treat Blood Magic like the fucking plague' rule. Doesn't matter how cute Merrill is, Hawke is doing her quests from fifty feet away.

Dragon Age still trails behind Mass Effect because the fandom doesn't have its own equivalent to the infamous thesis on Tali's sweat. That's somthing... right?
I remember some Tali fan art once, a very normal piece of art of her just standing with her shotgun. The comments were all going ballistic about how the artist was a 'disgusting pig' who gave Tali 'gross fat anime tits' and was doing real harm to women. Her breasts were, like, slightly bigger than in-game. Fucking fandoms are weird about their favourite characters man.

Merrill's friendship can be gained by:
  • Siding with the mages or the elves in quests.
  • Choosing options that favor blood magic or demons.
  • By being agreeable to her in conversation.

  • Sure, I was being a bit facetious and hyperbolic but Merrill's definitely written as someone who thinks demons can actually be trusted and can be worked with. The whole "there's no difference between spirits and demons!" is also pretty retarded. It's like a junkie trying to convince you there's no difference between taking ibuprofen and meth because they're both drugs. I think there's even banter between Merrill and the other party members wherein they call her retarded for her views on demons.

Merrill was reckless, but I cannot forgive the framing of Bioware regarding their clan leader WILLINGLY GETTING POSSESSED AS SOME SORT OF LESSON.

What did we learn here!? Not to get willingly possessed?! No shit Sherlock.

So yeah in all playthroughs after that I went blasting.... the only good elf is a de-

I think a more accurate analogy is Merrill is someone who thinks you can be use meth and cocaine to increase your productivity but you just have to be really cautious about it and if anything goes wrong, pre emptively take responsibility.

It’s stupid but it’s a reasoned stupid. “Yes it’s dangerous but I can do this, because I’m smart”

She got possessed to save Merrill from getting possessed. It was genuinely an act of love. The tragic thing is Merrill by making the deal forced Merethari to act-it would be like a teenager about to join a gang or something and their mother showing up instead to do the initiation rite, and dying/getting arrested in the process.

The lesson of Merrill is you don’t have to be a cackling villain to be a self centered autist that doesn’t consider second order consequences.

Merrill is successfully tempted by a pride demon in the fade and her story is about pride. She’s dead set on restoring the Eluvian. She’s otherwise a very compassionate and selfless woman, but the point was that you don’t have to be selfish or evil to be prideful. Merrill refuses to listen to counsel, and is willing to be exiled and lose everything because she alone is willing and able to make that sacrifice.

Of course-the tragic thing is people care about her, Hawke and Merethari and Varric and they’re basically willing to intervene and prevent her mistakes from actually blowing up in her face.

When by all rights they should.
