It must really suck be a fan of the last game and be forced to play a new character you dont care for (just like how it happened in Origins). The main baddy get's taken care off in the first ten minutes after all the hype building up for the past ten years and replaced by literal who`s.

The hole Veilguard group is stupid as well. They act like this wholesome group of adventures that are all just a big family that may fight from time to time but they always make up and play nice in the end. None of the hostile or walking on thin ice tune like in Origins. or more recent titles, Baldurs Gate 3.

Going into the fade was always treated like a big deal since ANYTHING could happen and danger lurked at every corner. Now its just a fun time, hoping between dimensions for the hell of it.

I'm in the same position. Ive been in the fandom for almost 15 years, for better or worse. Inquisition, for all its flaws, provided a great distraction when I needed one. I remember being at the midnight release for DA2 and getting the special hardcover guide book and everything.
I recall my Rapid Onset Disappointment when I played the DA2 demo. I'd completed Origins on Nightmare, enjoyed it greatly and the tactical challenge of it all, fine-tuning party member's behaviour. If there were some kind of Beyond Nightmare mode I'd have probably done it, even if it took me years. And then all that combined with an engaging story, fascinating characters, wildly varying story outcomes and a deeply immersive setting. It was great.

So picture me firing up the demo for the sequel and seeing this personal view point action-y game where actual motion lines like a comic showed up and my gritty realism turned into my character flying across the map at super-hero speeds. I never played DA2 beyond that demo. I did return for DA:I though it wasn't as good as O.

That looks so overly designed and stupid, and that looks like some kind of trading card. I'm betting there will be a merch tie-in that uses this same exact design. Like card matts or something.
Actually what it reminds me of is Hogwart's Legacy, with the spell previews.

I'm less pessimistic than some here about the skill tree stuff. It looks interesting to me. I'll keep an open mind until I see it. But as someone else said, the worst case in some ways would be if the mechanical game play is good because then the skin-suiting of the franchise will be successful (ish).

I'm so just so confused as to who the audience for this game is.

Why would anyone choose to play this over BGS3 what does this do better than BGS3?
It's for people who have finished BGS3. Which is most people who wanted to play it by this point.

Side note, Blackwall doesn't get enough love in this thread. He's the only good thing about Inquisition.
I liked Cassandra. Probably my favourite companion in Inquisition, Blackwall a second place. Least favourites would be Sera, probably followed by Iron Bull or Vivianne. I liked Varric well enough as a character but mechanically I just didn't enjoy using him.

I jumped off at DA2 and never regretted it. That said I did youtube bits and pieces of the later games. When 2 had the gay priest I left in camp after the game kept trying to force me to bang him run up and just randomly blow up a church out of nowhere for utterly retarded reasons I knew I was in for s treat.

I then had the pleasure of watching the ghouls that are your companion characters from afar in 3. The plot itself gets worse and worse as time goes on. I've no idea how a nation of mages exists in this setting unless they are raised as cattle by demons. Any other possibility is absurd. That said I plan to glimpse the highlights of the absurdity. God help anyone not treating this as a bad comedy though.

Blackwall really did have some of the best tarot cards in the game, too. Look at that second card--his cloak looks like wings.

Warning for upcoming art spergin'.

Say what you want about Inquisition, but the art was gorgeous. VG tried to replicate the tarot thing and failed miserably. But, of course, there's a vocal minority that are insisting that it's "just like the tarot omg"

Compare those to this HQ version of one of Blackwall's cards:
dragon-age_judgement_bioware.jpg

(I had some trouble finding hq versions of the other three or I would have included those as well.)

Inspired by the judgement card, which is a calling to your higher self. It's the greater good. It's redemption. Another thing that VG failed in is that DAI's cards weren’t just stylized. They were actually inspired by and based off of relevant tarot cards. Inquisition was a mess, but I could unironically go on for ages ( :tomgirl: ) about the art.

After DAI, there was a surge of artists making cards for their characters and companions from past games. It was a really fun trend for a while.

View attachment 6106076Dare you enter my magical realm?;)
You know, I think I prefer this old kind of magical realm to the modern corporate "romance". The former is usually a guy running way too hard with his fetish, which is at least understandable, the latter is extremely fake, devoid of actual tenents of relationships and tries to push you into accepting interracials, gays and troons.

This sort of plotline always drives me nuts in fantasy shit. You live in a feudal medieval society where terrible things can happen all the time, you're a noble, you're rich and powerful, all you need to do is beat off and scoop it into a girl's womb after to have a kid.

No! I want pozzloads only dad! Fuck you!

This makes Dorian the most selfish, callous, faggot ever. So basically the perfect gay man. No wonder they identify so much.

This sort of thing is why I disliked DA:I. They didn't take the political crisis caused by a male son refusing to procreate seriously. You were just supposed to focus on the fact that cocks in his ass made him happy, while ejaculating in a vagina made him unhappy, so yay, he's happy. Nevermind there's probably going to be a civil war or constitutional crisis or something. Cocks are going in asses, and that's what matters.

Glad I wasn't the only one that thought this when I encoutered Dorian. You're a fucking noble and heir to the dynasty. Take your responsibility to your family, ffs! I was 100% with his dad in that game. At least as much as the game let me be.

Dragon Age still trails behind Mass Effect because the fandom doesn't have its own equivalent to the infamous thesis on Tali's sweat. That's somthing... right?
To be fair back in the old Bioware social they had dedicated threads to every character. And while the Tali thread was more or less purged no one went near the Alistair (or Kaiden in Mass Effects case) threads. In those were crazy old ladies who would post porn nonstop. So while those threads were definitely HARAM and should have been closed down they were kept up as containment or for female equity or some shit.

Dragon Age had more explicit scenes and the fanbase certainly liked to indulge a bit more on main than the fanbases of the other games.

I'm really sad I missed out on the official Bioware forums. Every once in a while I see some crazy screenshots like the Tali Sweat guy which was just posted or people making fun of the Devs to their faces which makes me laugh so hard.

Origins already has several arrangements for a three way (or four way!) with Isabela at The Pearl
I still remember Morrigan's reaction to Isabel, being the trad swamp wife that she is, was something along the lines of, "If you touch that STD-infested whore you will never touch me again."

Modern day BioWare would probably find that reaction too hateful and bigoted to include in a current game.

"trad swamp wife" :story:
Stealing this, thank you

Anyway. Yeah modern Troonware wouldn't do anything like that because...I dunno, sex work is empowering or something something sexual dominance own yourself slay queen.

Its funny you say STD beacuse she gets that (or was it crabs) in two for whoring herself out too much.

Now days, people would see it as female empowering.

Where in 2 was that ever mentioned? Was that a dialogue option or banter I missed?

Though most fun with Isabella was the foursome (Isabella, Leliana, Zevran, female warden) instead of playing a dice game.

If you visit Anders at some point, Isabel will be there and ask for ointments to get rid of the "itching" around her private part and Anders low key tells her too "slow down with the whoring". Cant find the scene on Youtube so you just have to take my word for it.

Another fun fact, When visiting Anders, The count (or was it duke? the one with the son that dies) assistant shows up asking for ointments as well. I take it as him being one of the unfortunate ones fucking Isabel or him being a homo.

They're really trying to make us forget that they set Solas up as major antagonist. Instead of focusing on the sloppy bait and switch, people are focusing on the theory that Rook can fuck him.

"You can continue to be suspicious and hostile towards him, or you can start to see him and find that common ground, that connection between the two of you, and really develop a different relationship over the course of the story," Epler says.

To me, it sounds more like a Johnny Silverhand kind of situation. But with the perceived threat to their ship looming closer, now fangirls are starting to question the story direction. Then you have the degenerates who scream NEW POLYCULE UNLOCKED. But even they are getting side-eyed hard now.

Speaking of degenerates...
The game director has weighed in on mage combat.

Love the quotation marks. Remember: you will never be a real woman mage.
