I saw this earlier, sounds like shit.

Two sources have revealed that some of those multiplayer components are still ‘sensed’ to some degree in the current build of the game – with one source saying “the game felt a bit like Destiny with a central hub where players could probably regroup before heading into the next mission”. The games hub, though, will still play a vital role in Dreadwolf in its single-player format.

As for combat, one source, who recently played the game, suggested that it was more akin to a hack n’ slash compared to past games, and the game’s combat wheel is similar to that of the one in Final Fantasy 15. As for your crew, it was said that you currently cannot control them and only select the ability they can cast in combat.

If this wasn't Bioware, I'd find it hard to believe that a series could go from being a modernization of a then-dead genre made out of love to being the worst of modern day gaming.

I can't think of a major title coming out that has less hype or fanfare than Deadname. I wouldn't be surprised if even the troon devs start quitting.
 
From what i remember Kai Leng was first in one of the books between 2 and 3

I think comic first, then book, but not sure. book is where the "cereal killer" meme comes from. it's why most people don't know who the fuck he is when he suddenly pops up in 3.

He also created a massive plot hole for ME2- if TIM had this guy in his back pocket the whole time, why did he need to bring Shepard back? Or if Shepard possessed some je ne sais quoi that Kai didn't, why not have them work together? The fate of all life in the galaxy was at stake, this is not a scenario to play it safe.

Of course, a lot of ME3's sins were dictates by it's weird relationship with ME2- like having Miranda claim she didn't know how ghoulish the Shepard resurrection project was despite being literally in charge of it. The problem was that ME2 had the moral complexity of trying to save all life by working with the space-Klan, and that sort of thing isn't allowed in [the current year.]
because shepard is shepard, and leng wasn't the most sane individual, just very capable. iirc there was also some shit where leng felt betrayed or had other issues with shepard or an injury or whatever, my impression from what I heard was bioware tried to pull some tragic feud between "brothers" or something, but never read the books myself.

as for ghoulish, can't remember the exact line but it might be in terms she didn't know what she signed up for and then stayed because shepard is shepard.

a lot in mass effect is implied, in the hope the player fills the holes or makes up his own mind, even if it's not an outright plot hole. imho it's one of the reasons the games worked as well as they did instead of vomiting everything in your face with zero depth like modern games do. also lets bioware get away with lot of shit because there's just enough to bamboozle and pave over the cracks, till they went fully off-rails.

I've railed about this before, but one of Dragon Age's biggest issues is that by the time Inquisition rolled around, huge chunks of the world and lore were relegated to comic books and novels, and it could be difficult to know or care about fairly major plot points in the game itself. For me, the biggest issue was the War of the Lions, which should have been a much bigger part of the game proper, or at least explained in more detail, even if only in codex entries. It's not as big a problem in Mass Effect, but things like Kai Leng and "Grayson" (I'm still not clear on who he was) pop up a few times in ME3. And as this excerpt shows, the worst thing about expecting the player to be familiar with this material is that the books and comics in question (and the DA cartoon currently airing) are fucking atrocious.

I really liked the way dragon age and inquisition made it's gaming world as interconnected areas which had different styles and vibes instead of Open world or linear gameplay, so much so that DA:I is one of the few games i 100% completed. So i was wondering if anyone here knows any other RPGs that use this same gameplay philosophy?

Iirc The Outer Worlds isn't an open world... Well because the story is set in different worlds. The story and the characters are bland but it has some fun quests and the weapons and combat mode are cool.
I suppose the Mass Effect trilogy is more similar to Dragon Age's gameplay since the developer is the same one. I liked Mass Effect Andromeda, but it felt more open-worldly.

From the gameplay description it sounds like they stripped the last shreds of identity Dragon Age had and they're just making fantasy Mass Effect. Also lol, 0 chance they manage a 2023 release. How long has this even been in development? It still looks like early alpha.

Again, I'll never understand why EA keeps Bioware around. If it's true this is just a repurposed MP game the production must've been one hell of a money pit.

Bioware is one of the last few remaining recognisable brandname studios they still retained from the 2010s, since they already ran down and gutted Maxis, Visceral, DICE, and Westwood. Mark my words though, I doubt there's much life remaining in there before they simply shutter the Austin office or just downsize it and rename it to EA Texas or something.
 
I wonder if the entertainment industry is ever going to learn to stop handing over valuable IP to weird losers to destroy.

Generously, assuming they didn't start until after the Trespasser DLC released and then took a few months away from the IP, since 2016. But the date I keep hearing is 2015. Inexcusable either way, even accounting for the all hands on deck scramble they had when Anthem turned up a worthless turd.
