As per court documents, Ramirez bragged about his daring theft in a phone call with an unknown woman on the same night. He claimed that he wasn't scared of the cartel's retaliation as he was in the United States. Unfortunately, his overconfidence led to his downfall. Masked gunmen attacked his house and took him to Nuevo Laredo across the border. The driver of the truck, Jonathan Cavriales, was arrested when he tried to cross the bridge back into Laredo a few days later. He confessed to being aware of the robbery and has been charged with kidnapping. The other culprits are still at large, and Ramirez's whereabouts remain unknown.
