Attached is a newspaper's live feed of how day one of the appeal hearing went. Always dangerous to rely too much on these newspaper live updates but it does seem to be a bit of a whinge fest. Statements of common ground are a part of the appeals procedure where the parties produce a document covering what should not be contentious issues; site identification and description, planning history/designations, what issues are agreed and what remain in issue. Inspectors love them as they make the inspector's job easier.

LOL somewhere they said the lawyer who submitted a poorly spelt document is 'dyslexic'...because spellcheck on a PC isn't a thing.

Is there anything worse than a British bureaucrat? I think most British people who wanted to be free or try something new immigrated to elsewhere in the British empire in the 19th century leaving the worst behind.

I only wish they made more episodes as 8 seems far too short.

This is one scenario where no-shit Mediterranean-style corruption would improve the situation. Yes, sure, there is this matryoshka doll of bureaucratic agencies and HOA-style organizations who have arbitrary veto power over basically your entire livelihood - but grease a few palms and all the bullshit goes away. Leave it to the britbongs to make honesty into a vice.

At least I now know for certain the inspiration for the Vogons in the Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy

Council: We should really do something to make money and make the community better. We need to diversify.
Farm: Resteraunt that employees loads of people and makes money money than you’ve ever made that would bring in loads of people to look round the local community. It does all the things you want.
Council: It does but no.

The thing that frustrates me about this the most is, there's definitely a legitimate purpose for planning permission and enforcement of such things, but these cretins are making it all look like arbitrary bullshit.

Example: There's a church near me that has been up for sale for a long time. There is a prospective buyer who wants to turn the church into a cramped block of "apartments", with a dozen or more houses crammed onto the land around it as well. This plan would put nearly twenty new dwellings into an area that is already overcrowded, with a single small entry onto a very busy street, and no care for the impact on existing infrastructure. The church is grade 2 listed, which means that it has to be preserved in a reasonably intact state internally and externally, but apparently that just doesn't matter to the construction firm. Their "consultation" survey to the locals has been along the lines of "do you want us to build big houses, or small houses? And do you think we're amazing for not damaging the exterior walls in our plan, or only somewhat special?" Not even asking if people want to save the church as is. A complete farce, which the council is likely to sign off without even a murmur of dissent, depriving the local community of a traditional centre of community focus and imposing yet more traffic, noise, and pollution on an already crowded area. Yet try and get a small, tiny little extension built on the side of your house and you can find yourself raked over the coals by a bunch of officious cunts, who proclaim that your tiny, single-storey kitchen extension will ruin the character of the area.

Fucking cunts. I don't even care if the show was edited to favour Clarkson; it wasn't remotely deceptive about how these faggots act and think.

The planning appeals have been decided. Essentially Clarkson got f'ed. The restaurant (Lowland Barn conversion) went down and the car park has a 3 year temporary permission. Formal decision is attached.
I suspect this is not over. Clarkson has survived trial by mob at minimum twice now and might in fact have enough money to fight this all the way.

The issue is that the entire point is not to dip into the celebrity cash fund since the point of the show is to show how hard and expensive is being a farmer.
It does still do that as long as you bear in mind that it's Jeremy Clarkson doing this. Not everyone has his bank balance.

He may do out of sheer bloody-mindedness. Regardless, he's fully converted to the farmers' point of view on this, so I can't imagine he'll just give up and not try something. Clarkson fronting a national movement to fix this stupid shit could very well have some success.

And there was much rejoicing... (if it's true)!

"Following Amazon's decision to cut ties with Jeremy Clarkson over his controversial Megan Markle column, the future of Clarkson's Farm and The Grand Tour was in doubt.

However, it has now been reported that Clarkson's Farm may indeed still return for a fourth season.

Production outfit Expectation is currently making Season 3 for a 2024 premiere.

A renewal would continue to see cameras rolling next year at Diddly Squat Farm in the Cotswolds.

The reports have come from Deadline, which says Amazon Prime Video has built a relationship back up with Mr Clarkson and is preparing to renew the popular show based on his farming exploits."
