Just bought a Ryzen 9 5900x and I was thinking about pairing it with a Geforce RTX 3080 10GB XLR8, first question is this a good pairing? From what I can tell it is, but I'm a retard. Second question what wattage power supply should I get is 1300W overkill?
Other specs-
32 GB DDR5 ram
Samsung Evo 870 1TB SSD
ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus mobo

Or should I just kill myself?

What's your use case? Also that PSU wouldn't be overkill because Nvidia cards are notorious power hogs

buy a mac

Assuming a real question, is that 32gb over 2 or 4 sticks? If 4, get 2 instead, just trust me on this and save yourself hours of resetting the CMOS because the ram won't run at XMP settings out of the box in a 4 stick configuration with AMD.

Video cards in general have no compatibility issues with specific CPUs, a 3080 is a chunky boy and will do you nicely for most gaming even at 4k.

Only gotcha is if the card uses a single 12v high power (12 pin) connector, make sure that fucker is seated VERY well and quadruple check it, if 2 or 3x8pin PCI-E (I'd assume 3x8 for 3080), you don't need to be OCD about it as long as they click in.

Yes, 1300w is overkill, no, I wouldn't worry about it too much because I'd still suggest a 900-1000w PSU with a 3080 in tow given that videocards of that era can see transient spikes draw 1.5 to 2x what the box says they will pull.

PSUs should only draw what you need, and 1300w future proofs you for later upgrades. Personally I splurge on power supplies, get way more overhead than I need, get 80+ Gold or Platinum certs to help compensate for any inefficiencies I introduce by more than doubling up on wattage, and never worry about it ever again until about 15 years later. I've had good luck with EVGA and Seasonic recently, but realistically, just be very cautious of very cheap power supplies, especially high output cheap power supplies.

If you think it's too expensive, remember that a good power supply can last well over a decade decade if treated right, I've got some basically 20 year old PC Power and Cooling PSUs that still purr along like they aren't old enough to have kids.

5900X only uses DDR4. I assume you meant that, but don't buy DDR5 with that CPU.

Yes, 1300W PSU is massive overkill. 800W would be fine for that system. Anything more than 1000W today is overkill even with a 4090, unless you're doing serious overclocking. As long as you buy a decent PSU, not like some Apevia crap.

Mobo is a good one, rest is fine.

like the cpu fan
You don't really need to worry too much about the pairings for fans, but if you are building your own PC make sure you understand cooling basics. It actually makes a big difference on both thermals and noise if you do it wrong. Positive pressure, AIO orientation, intake/outake directions, reverse blades, and response curves can make a surprising difference.

Only 2 dicks for me

Yeah I realized that after I posted this but thank you

Thank you for all of your responses I am pretty new to building pcs . But now I'm gonna be a pro gamer

Oh, and for that vintage of CPU, don't go too nuts with the fan, as they predate AMD's choice to basically make the processor overclock itself until it hits the thermal limit (that'd be the 7000x generation iirc).

I use 3950x running 100% load all the time with these ~$50 things and they work as well or better than more expensive options:

Remember though that the SE version of this cooler is not as good (hence the ~$10 drop price), less fin density. I made that mistake before and had to return like 4 of them which is the only reason I'm linking the correct one's newegg page.

Also be extra sure to remove the protective film from the plate which contacts the CPU prior to install, it's surprisingly easy to miss removing it with this specific cooler when installing if you're a bit distracted, lord knows I did.

Thanks for the fan recommend I was gonna spend too much

this is the 3080 I was looking at the only difference I can tell between the uprising and the Revel is that you can control the RGB on one and not the other but this $450 option is a lot cheaper than 4060 or 4070 prices

Assuming they are correctly advertising the Uprising as "new" in the amazon listing, that'd probably better since you should get a warranty with that. Usually warranties don't transfer owners with used cards.

If you're buying used, I'd shoot for an LHR model as that means miners probably aren't the sellers.

Looks like cooler RGB is the main functional difference, all other things being equal at least according to PNY's website, but their website is rather vague on these points.

Now I have egg on my face because I didn't realize that was used. Now that I know that imma have to rethink it

Didn't read your post but this should help. May Allah guide you
