A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Does anyone else think that the whole hatred of Liz Truss is astroturfed to fuck?
Why are people still talking about her and calling her the worst PM ever when we have TTK himself?

The whole thing especially the lettuce thing seems forced as fuck.
I have long said Liz Truss was done dirty. The lettuce thing stank of smug behavioural insights team. She put a budget forward that didn’t do what the people with the real power wanted and she was backstabbed swiftly.

It's St Georges day today, feels like even less people then the last have even acknowledged it besides a few lefties trying to "own the gammons".
If it makes you feel better, I made Toad in the Hole for dinner specifically because it's St George's Day.
Personally I never remember that much of a fuss made about St. George's Day, besides occasionally turning a corner and being ambushed by Morris Dancers. St David's Day, St. Andrew's Day and particularly St Patrick's Day all carry the flavour of "those dang dirty English couldn't stamp out our national identity". We don't really have the same thing.

Nah, Liz Truss - despite all her protestations that she was implementing the one true economic PLVN to save us all till the deep state stopped her - was an idiot who couldn't handle holding the reigns. The main thing with Liz was she was very good at following orders and sticking to the party line, which is why she kept getting Ministerial jobs, but couldn't handle it when she was actually in charge. I remember her saying something like "I can't speak for the Foreign Minister" and getting challenged because that's a line a Minister would use, whereas the Prime Minister actually sets the agenda.

Penny having to clarify at PMQs that "the Prime Minister is not hiding under a desk" was a real low point. There were multiple press conferences where she seemed sedated to deal with her nightmare situation, and she literally ran away from her last one because Beth Rigby started shouting at her and she was about to burst into tears. The only reason she ended up in post is because Boris purged most of the talent, and the Tory membership didn't want a brown (which is why they didn't do a proper membership vote the second time).

The lettuce stuff was pushed by The Daily Star and then pushed further by other journalists, but it wasn't astroturfed. It was funny. People liked it.

About the only thing I'll give her credit for is she managed to block Boris acting the statesman over the Queen's death (which is why she lasted as long as she did) and that's purely by merit of Boris being forced out. I'll even be so bold and provocative to say she was worse than Keir Starmer.

It's fitting her legacy is to be a pub quiz question and nothing else.

Yes. Have you watched any of the interview with her since the whole thing? Very interesting viewing.

TPTB did not want her in charge and they forced her out.

To defend those who do so that's because numerous political parties decided that a winning strategy with those groups was to make it a requirement that the country needed to adapt to them. As such the motivation to actually change their ways went out the window and instead child rape, treating women as property and handing your voting papers to the local imam to fill in before you submitted them became acceptable behaviour. As long as it was kept in group or to those member of society belonging to the social class all of our major political parties want the majority of the country in.

The right solution for this is for voters repelled by that sort of behaviour to not give their votes to parties supporting that. Even if it means you have to give your votes to those you find pathetic as long as they are not outright damaging. Because that, "it's racist to expect them to not adhere to their home country's standards" attitude is not merely damaging but destructive.
You're just going to the same incongruity when the Irish gained emancipation after the Act of Union and Daniel O'Connell stopped the Fenians and Whiteboys from radicalising all of Ireland into Jacobites. Suddenly you have the "Irish Question" and "Irish Vote" with Parnell strongarming Westminster by becoming a kingmaker to prosecute the Land Wars against the absentee landlords in Ireland. The concept of a "party whip" was an Irish innovation btw the Irish Parliamentarians and Irish Republican Brotherhood used to maintainn their party cohesion lol

Instead of the threat of Irish revolt and political agitation you get anti-white BIPOCs as a "muslim vote" with lots of rape.

I thought 'no, surely not, this is a shitpost', but then he's listed on the fucking royal greenwich website as a nominated person (X) alongside Robert Kennedy (no not that one) and Vlad Lavtrientev. The Greenwich Wire also confirms this. I cannot find anything on ReformUK's website or twitter about him tho.

You're right, Reform are beyond parody at this point. What could you even suggest that would be too ridiculous? Reform presents Fu Machu? Reform presents Baron Samedi? Reform presents fucking Skeletor?

The really barmy thing is that I might still be voting for them in May unless I see Restore or something more right wing on the ballot.

The Reform candidate for London shall be Ming The Merciless.

Death to Candidate Ming!

Anyway, I betcha that those 50 riot pigs Shabs is sending won't be for the rapefugees. They're going to be used against the Patriots that cut up the hidden boats.

Just saw some news that "permission has been granted for a fresh legal challenge at Crowborough". Fingers crossed, but not holding out much hope.

If Reform have a genuine chance of winning the seat in your constituency, and one vote less for them could let the Greens or someone else in, then it probably needs to be Reform.

The chances of Restore winning a national majority are non-existent, so do what is best in your constituency for the pro-Britain, pro-deportation, nativist cause.

The US is considering a review of its stance on the Falkland Islands as punishment for the UK not supporting the war on Iran. :story: :story: :story: :story: Fuck keir, fuck seppos. Interesting dilemma for Keir because he WANTS to give away the Falklands but will he ally himself with drumpf?? lmfao. lol even
Their existing stance doesn't appear to be the most effusive (this is from 2012):

This is a bilateral issue that needs to be worked out directly between the governments of Argentina and the United Kingdom. We encourage both parties to resolve their differences through dialogue in normal diplomatic channels. We recognize de facto United Kingdom administration of the islands but take no position regarding sovereignty.

I don't think there's any salvaging the relationship with Trump after his Iranian debacle. Even if the King's visit does somehow smooth things over, Trump liking you on Monday doesn't guarantee he'll still like you on Tuesday. Javier Milei is obviously buddies with Trump so I can see Trump doing something as petty as recognising Argentine sovereignty over the Falklands. The question is then if Milei would be emboldened by Trump and stage an invasion (their economy is doing terribly, so maybe not, but maybe they would in the hopes of distracting from the economy).

The main way the US helped was sharing intelligence and giving us access to their naval base on Ascension Island, but didn't really get involved (ironically the thing Trump's pissy at us about with Iran). If the US decided to recognise Argentine sovereignty, they'd presumably deny us access to Ascension for the purposes of defending the Falklands. At that point it's pretty much impossible for us to project power and protect the Falklands. The appropriate response would be to then kick all the Americans out of our bases and airspace, which would lead to a diplomatic spiral, so who's to say if Keir would follow through or just bleat helplessly as the Ejército Argentino start kicking in the red phone booths.

Rumours are that The King (his people) have explicitly warned Starmer that his government is NOT to collapse while His Majesty is in America. Parliament is going to be prorogued, which neatly avoids another Labour blunder at the dispatch box before the the local elections as well.

Sounds more like something Keir has asked for. At this point having the equivalent of a doctor's note explaining why he cannot do P.E. is about the level he is at.
