A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

The drama they cause isn't worth it for the school. If a kid steals your Charizard ultra mega faggot card (worth £500) how the fuck do you prove it was yours? It's a mass market item which can't be marked in any way. So the teachers are in a shit situation.

Same with uneven trades wanting to be swapped back. If you make a bad trade the teacher has to decide which kid is in the wrong on items they don't understand.

They're just a nightmare to deal with as a toy.

When was yugioh ever involved with the monster autism? Yugioh fags were always just niggers shouting shit at each other and not understanding what any of the cards say. I feel like a fucking manchild knowing I've played TCGs since I was like 12. I picked up a MTG 2 player starter from an Aldi. They had a small like corner shop inside the shop and I got 2 decks from there. Picked up the electric psychic pokemon starter deck and bought a few packs. But no one was really interested in the TCG back then and I had no idea what I was doing. I thought all attacks required you to discard the energy not just the ones that said you did. I used to tell my parents I needed to check our e-mail every morning, but really I went on pokemon (pojo I think?) TCG websites to read tournament reports.

I'm thinking I should kill myself if I sink any lower into this autism.. While I wait for £50s worth of cards to arrive in the post so I can finish building 2 decks.. FML.

I hate how much being a "nerd" has been commercialised nowadays. It's like you said, spaces that used to be for a refuge for weirdos have now become full of troons and the other current thing ideology. I want to have fun, not worry about what I'm saying because I don't want to get kicked out. It's part of the reason I switched to the BF minis as opposed to bolt action ect. Its so niche and autistic they don't have much interest in invading it. All of BF's stuff is clearly designed by people who are autisticly obsessed with WW2 or the cold war and do it because they find it cool.

Yes it is. But I like model kits and not many places used to stock Gundam model kits back in the day. Hobbycrafts now have a very limited selection, but none I'm interested in. So the brum shops can be quite the treat for the hunter-gathering autist. Seeing kits you actually want, despite being over priced is fun. So you pick up something from your bucket list to build.. then put it in your cupboard for several years.

There are threads. I don't post my stuff in them because there's too many idiots who try to fuck with people here. Unless I'm asking for help with something I avoid posting any of my stuff on any websites. Call me paranoid but I've seen the type of stuff that happens here and there's nothing to gain by opening yourself up to it. Especially as a bong where being on the website is already a crime. The less internet foot print you have the better these days.
