A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

That might be the motivation for some of them, but I've noticed even brown people get brown fatigue. Especially among 1st/2nd gens who have never seen their shithole of origin. This is a similar phenomenon to how the minority of actually functional American blacks with careers always move to white neighborhoods to get away from niggers. It goes something like this:

1. White country opens borders to brown people.
2. Brown people move en masse for the gibs in a safe, affluent white country.
3. Brown people cry about muhh racism to get more gibs.
4. Decades pass, eventually there's so many browns, country is no longer so white, safe, or affluent.
5. This upsets the OG browns.

Its hilarious to me how so many of them inevitably end up as Uncle Ruckus, thinking to themselves "man, this used to be such a nice white neighborhood/country until it got filled with them new niggas over there."
Familiarity breeds contempt.

It's the same principle as organised criminals holding contempt for regular criminals, I guess.
Things were fine for migrants when they were nice small enclaves that could carry on selling drugs, keeping police out of their neighbourhoods, hiring nepotistically and funding terrorism on levels that whitey wouldn't notice while they got their kids into the best positions. They're angry that now their success has encouraged more and more migrants who openly hate whitey and are exposing the scam in broad daylight.

Nigel Farage is a human barnacle and will always and forever be a man that wants into the establishment. Which he sees as the globalist faggot empire.
Farage is happy to pose at the bar - any bar - with a pint of beer. I have heard it said that he will listen to people, which is commendable for an MP. However, he is often glib and he has never struck me as particularly detail orientated. He certainly isn't the kind of individual who will clench their teeth, reach down into the rising tide of shit, and pull up anything that is worthy of being saved. That is what will have to happen eventually, now that the nation is in an obvious state of spiralling social collapse; now that the welfare budget exceeds taxation revenue; and now that the migration into the UK is adding to this expenditure more than it boosts the economy and increases the tax base. These are either cold facts or inconvenient truths, depending on your political outlook.

I don't believe that Farage has the will to make Reform anything other than the Conservative Party v2.0. You can argue that such a thing is needed as a political counterweight to the ball of blended plasticine that the two party system has become. He must realise that a lot of the votes that will go his way on May 7th will be place-holders for Restore.

Farage isn't making a conservative party 2.0. He's making conservatives under Boris 2.0. This is a conservative party everyone rejected running on a meme. While every chance they get the sabotage the meme by inviting more pakis in. It's like Trump said they need more Indians BEFORE he got elected..

At this point, he's not even a civnat, given he's chasing explicitly sectarian voting blocs with his recent candidates. It wouldn't surprise me if Reform starts putting out foreign-language campaign materials in the next year. The Greens have broken down that particular barrier by making it an open party policy, rather than engaging in arms-length subterfuge as parties have done in the past, so they'll all be doing it. He'll just argue that it's necessary to get the message out.

now that the welfare budget exceeds taxation revenue
Not true.
One part of tax revenue is exceeded by a broader part of the welfare system. The real situation is still absolutely shameful, but what you have said is not factually correct.

In the 2025/26 financial year, the UK government's welfare bill (estimated around £333bn) has effectively surpassed income tax revenue (£331bn) for the first time. While total tax receipts are much higher (expected to raise ~£1.1 trillion in 2024/25), this shift highlights that welfare spending currently exceeds revenue raised from workers.

  • Total Tax Revenue (2024/25): Approx. £1,139 billion (roughly 39% of GDP).
  • Welfare Expenditure (2024/25): Approximately £313 billion to £333 billion.
  • Income Tax vs Welfare: Income tax (est. £331bn) now roughly equals or is eclipsed by welfare spending (£333bn), prompting concerns about fiscal sustainability.
  • Welfare Breakdown: The largest share of welfare goes to pensioners (£151bn), followed by Universal Credit (£88bn) and disability benefits (£75bn).
  • Total Spending Context: Welfare (social protection) accounts for around 25% of all UK government expenditure, making it one of the largest single spending areas alongside health

Universal credit every year costs the same as brute forcing 10 Moon landings, per year. With 88bn, you could build an actual space port in space, with tugs, and asteroid catchers. It actually enrages me. I went to see family over Easter, and met the side that are useless benefits thieves again. Six kids, all 'disabled' no jobs between them. They stopped working in 1998 and never did since. We burn away the productive value and effort of so many people, it's fucking insane. Just a cities worth of effort and energy expended to make fleshlumps tread water. Thanks @EddyRooney ruined my WHOLE ass night! Now I gotta go torture a homeless guy!

Got a breakdown on how many of them have never paid enough tax to actually merit the state pension in full?

A lot of rags love to talk about how the pension is the biggest drain but neglect to mention that it's being paid to people who's worked for 40 straight years with the tax and NI implication that includes compared to those who have rarely if ever done so.

Means tested state pensions are coming in the next 20 years, as another attempt to buy votes by one political party or another.

The Government would never provide a breakdown like that and we all know why. In one column "those who have contributed" in the other "workshy parasites",

I believe to qualify for the full current state pension, one has to have made the qualifying amount ( which in my eyes is ridiculously low - I think you qualify even if you're on the rock and roll ) of National Income contributions for 36 years between 18 and 67.
The bar is set very low.

The UK State Pension is legally and technically classified as a contributory benefit (or social security benefit), not a private savings pot. It is funded by current taxpayers on a pay-as-you-go basis and is based on National Insurance (NI) contribution records, rather than a personal investment account.

Key Details Regarding the State Pension:

Legal Classification: Defined as a benefit under the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act 1992 and the Pensions Act 2014.

Funding Model: It is paid for by the working-age population's NI contributions, not from a dedicated, individual savings pot.

Eligibility: You must have a minimum number of qualifying years of NI contributions to receive it.

No Personal Account: There is no "contractual" entitlement, and government rules regarding the age and amount can change, as it is a government-run benefit rather than a personal investment.

Taxability: The State Pension is taxable, just like other income.

The party that means tests the state pension should beware. I very probably won't qualify for the pension. Considering in my eyes that is the only money I will ever get from the government ( having paid for it ten times over by that point ) I will take a very dim view of what I will consider this theft - whether they class it as a "benefit" or not.

I mean like, I'm 30. At the rate it's going, I never expect to get a state pension. My only chance is getting a relatively cheap house in da norf, overpaying on that for 10 years, and then magdumping the excess into investment vehicles. I see my pension payment to the government as basically just lighting money on fire. I'll never see it back.

Investments work fantastic until you find out some Jew has been raiding it, putting money into his mates failing company to rug pull everyone and left the country. The crypto market and the investments/pensions markets look surprisingly similar.

New plan: House in da norf, over pay, stockpile canned food, semtex and 5.56 ammunition. Die in glorious shootout with the mailman.

My plan is to be 70, digging a hole, then I die and fall in and it turns out that I'm digging my own grave.
I look forward to being old and shriveled so that I have a tiny blood volume. Then I just plan to go sniff homeless people in Glasgow until I get a second hand high from the heroin and get as high as possible from that until it kills me.
