A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

No further news on Alum Rock. Even people I've asked here don't know whats fully gone down.
That's two stabbings in two days. I don't often get spooked but this is starting to spook me. If there's a third tomorrow this could be a full blown mass terror campaign. I wasn't around during 9/11 and 7/7 so I have no clue if this could be a prelude to something worse. I'm genuinely worried that this could kick off something big.
Yes I know it's funny that the glowie is saying he's scared of Islamic Terrorism.

Personally I think that Iranian Goverment officials should be prioritised with flights to the UK. They are at risk of EXECUTION if the government is overthrown, unlike Barry from Dubai or William in Oman. The UK isn't some sanctuary for Brits who flee the country, it's a sanctuary for others who flee THEIR country.

Being government officials they should also be fast tracked through the Civil Service and given 100k per year jobs as well as housing, bereavement compensation and a Mazda-MX5.

Anyone in disagreement with this will be referred to PREVENT and given a summary trial by their local community leader before being stoned to death in South Shields.

Seems to be a spur of the moment protest in Aberdeen and police have got K9 units out.

Regarding the earlier man with a knife; police statement, he was arrested 5 hours ago. It's worth mentioning on the 15th of February, 2026, David Kennedy, the General Secretary of the Scottish Police Federation, said to the Herald, “If you walk out into the street in Scotland with a knife you should expect to be shot by police.”

ETA: One of the victims may be a concierge (?) or work as a cleaner/groundskeeper for the block of flats which is given to migrants .

So they are saying he's a 23 year old.... Cue loads of laughter. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cy8lyez4e44o
A 23-year-old man arrested in connection with a stabbing in Edinburgh has been charged.

Police, including armed officers, attended the Calder Gardens area at about 08:25 on Monday following reports of a man with a bladed weapon.
A man was treated in hospital for what police believe was a stab wound while a woman was treated for a cut to her head, although officers said that was not sustained from a bladed weapon. They have both since been released.
The arrested man is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Police said the incident was not being treated as terror-related and warned that misinformation about what happened was being spread online.

Ch Insp Scott Kennedy said: "I'm aware misinformation continues to be shared online about this incident which could cause further distress in the local community.
"I'd like to be clear: we did not receive any reports of a man attempting to enter a nursery or any educational establishment and this was not a hostage situation.
"While we understand what happened was frightening, I'd ask people to avoid speculating about the details and be mindful that false information could affect any future court proceedings.
"We still have a police presence in the area for reassurance and I thank the public for their continued assistance and support."
They've not named him but he's bound to be on the court rolls unless they sneakily decide to hold it in private, place your bets who it is.

And the best part? This is what their council leader said....they just had to play the diversity card.
Following an arrest made in connection with the incident in the west of the city earlier today (2 March), the Council Leader and Chair of the Edinburgh Partnership, Jane Meagher, has paid tribute to the response of emergency services and council staff.

Cllr Meagher said:

“I was deeply shocked to hear about this morning’s horrific incident in the west of the city.

“I want to pay tribute to Council colleagues, Police Scotland and other emergency services for their quick response and to wish the two people who were injured a speedy recovery. This must have been particularly traumatic for them and for those who witnessed the attacks. My thoughts are with them all.

“It’s important to echo the Police’s statement that this was an isolated incident, and the suspect is now in custody. I would urge people not to speculate or share unverified information on social media.

“I fully understand the concern this will cause within the community, and we have contacted local residents’ and other groups to offer our support. This will continue for as long as it’s needed.

“Moments like this remind us of the need to stand together – and of the importance of community spirit and tolerance. Everyone has the right to feel safe in their home, at work, on their street and in their neighbourhood.

“Edinburgh is a proud, welcoming and diverse city. Our biggest strength lies in those who live here – people from all walks of life, cultures, and backgrounds – and we all have a part to play in making sure it stays that way.”

I bet the majority of people looking to flee the region are tourists or those who do seasonal work and live half here and half over there.
Let them come back here, it'll be a boost to the economy.
Think about it, they've spent months/years over there, tax free and have a shit load of money in their pocket. They will come back expecting the same luxorious lifestyle and will book into posho hotels, eating expensive food and will be on daily visits to the gym, spa, nail salon, tanning beds and hair dressers.

Trump has been calling Starmer more meany names for not helping him in the mid-east. I've got to say, with the years of the yanks spouting bullshit about "they don't need no UK/Europe" and "Europe would be invaded by Russia if not for yanks", this is very fucking funny.

I'll vote labour for life if Starmer continues to tell him to fuck off. Espescially after slagging off our armed forces. Senile, fat, demented, orange, american cunt.

I preferred it when he cowered. I already dislike 99% of what Starmer does, he will forever look optically terrible both domestically and on the world stage. At least when he just let Trump do what he wants we were given easy rides on the tariffs. We don't look powerful because he said no to DJT once.

There's few things I like about america. The fact that the police just fucking shoot these types of people is one of them. Great call out the firearms police so that he can be arrested and then spend his life on the taxpayer in a jail that's probably nicer than any shithole he came from. I don't care just do some fucking american bullshit 'he was approaching with violent intent' or some bullshit like that and shoot the cunt. What's the fucking point of having a gun if you can't shoot these sorts of people. Oh no the sanctity of life or whatever bullshit as if he didn't just murder two people.
Basically they resent [X], and so the opposite of [X] is therefore good.
That's just all discussion online these days. Just like everything the internet has massively widened the gap between normal and retarded people. The people able to be normal and civil have used it to increase their understanding and knowledge of what they talk about. The retarded ones have been manipulated by it into echochambers and such that fucked over their ability to think even more. On the internet everything is a bipartizanal issue and if you do not agree with me 100% then you are the same as the absolute opposite of me.
Meanwhile, the bin is full to the brim so the next 3 months is spent slowly trying to add a bin bag from the backlog into the bin and actively managing what you throw out.
Man I must live in a nice area then. Tbf every binman I see is white so that might be what's doing it but as long as everything is moveable with the bin then they don't care. Like the binbag could be 1ft sticking out the top and the lid won't move, as long as it's still in the bin they'll take it.
You could always take up learning the bagpipes as revenge
I love bagpipes and they sound good and I am tired of bagpipe slander. If my neighbours decided to start learning the bagpipes I would honestly probably not worry, I don't think the heavy smoker would stick with the blowy instrument too long. But I would much rather that than the shitty nigger music that I'm used to. Same for violins and the hurdy gurdy I like shrill piercing mandrake shit and those medieval peasants were right about music sounding better with a constant drone. I would try learning one of them but music is the only exception to my normally perfectly fine finger skills. I was very firmly in the 'triangle guy' tier in school is probably the easiest way to explain it.

We don't look powerful because he said no to DJT once.
Nobody else has and trump still hasn't hit us with tariffs.

Like I said before, our power is in the background. Our culture is stiff upper lip, keep calm and carry on, don't make a fuss etc. What's happening on public display is owned by the americans, that's how they project power. For us, we have more going on in the background than people know, which makes us unpredictable.

Look at it this way, if Starmer is a spineless, cowardly, sissy, how can he have the confidence to defy the one leader than most on the world-stage won't?

Adding some proper follow on thoughts to this autistic screeching.

If Iran is truly on the way down, this will likely result in two things happening.

It is highly likely that small numbers of the Muslim community will see the killing of the Supreme Leader as a cause for Jihad against the west. There is a realistic possibility that this is what we've already seen over the passed two days. Lone radicalised individuals attacking the west with little to no planning or direction from Iran. There is a realistic possibility that these attackers achieve martyrdom within Muslim communities. It is highly likely that this will inspire more small scale attacks within the UK.
It is likely that Iran has influence over a number of groups within the UK. It is likely that these groups are capable of organised attacks within the UK. There is a realistic possibility that these groups are activated by Iran as a method of attacking the west. It is likely these attacks would be better organised and targeted than random the stabbings. There is a realistic possibility that the breakdown of leadership within Iran causes these groups to be activated by hardline members of the IRGC without higher approval. There is a realistic possibility that the lack of communication from Iranian handlers will be taken as a sign to begin attacks without direct instruction.

In the next week it's likely there will be more localised attacks by lone assailants or small groups.
Within the next two weeks there is a realistic possibility of organised attacks being carried out as the Iranian regiment falls.

Overall, it feels bad fellow Kiwis.

I feel very much the same way I did after 9/11. Something is in the air. Like the land it's self is bracing for impact. Not even other people making me feel this way.

I don't think todays stabbing had anything to do with terrorism but that doesn't mean there isn't something building. There is zero chance Iran didn't fill our country full of sleeper cell wogs. It's just not possible with the boat method. I would be shocked if there wasn't some kind of bombing in the next week. Might not be as big as 7/7 but there will be some kind of response. We're at war with a Muslim nation in a country full of Muslims using fake identities. Any one with a brain is on high alert.

If you want to be optimistic you can look at the big picture. If there is a major terror attack this all comes to a head immediately. Labour will be just gone, so will the greens. Lowe is likely an instant next PM with demands for a general election immediately. The hotel protests go hot, very hot very fast. Nation wide Southport the government can't contain and the only option is to remove all the browns immediately and secure the borders.

I know I'll get rainbows but if Reform is the current "Lets get rid of them" imagine what it looks like if there's 1 or 2 major terror events. It'll be "they all need to be in camps" overnight and no amount of government propaganda will be able to cover for it.

It's been like, what, a day? since he's gone against Trump. Of course he hasn't done anything to us yet, he's busy with the war.

Look at it this way, if Starmer is a spineless, cowardly, sissy, how can he have the confidence to defy the one leader than most on the world-stage won't?
Because it's really easy for him to say no while Trump is busy dealing with an active conflict. Every other opportunity to denounce Trump, he has not. I don't understand how you can think this is a stunning and brave move by him and not just a desperate, easy attempt to try wrangle some of the left back into his camp. Just look at literally any of the actions this man has previously taken throughout his time as PM.

I'm leaning towards that as well tbh. What I'm worried about though is that some pissed off muslim with a hatred for us sees it on the news and gets inspired. It's the martyrdom chain reaction I'm worried about.

I'd say a realistic chance within the next two weeks. For now I think there's enough of a Chain of Command in Iran left to stop the activation of cells. By next week It's realistic that's all be bombed to shit and rogue commanders activate cell without higher approval or the cells have no contact with Tehran and decide to do it themselves. For now though I think there's enough of Iran left to keep their cells here under control.

Has anything changed then? That's just normal life in good old multicultural England. They don't need iran as a reason they have fucking allah and the 72 virgins already as enough of a reason. Are we really worried about the news radicalising fucking muslims of all people?

I think GCHQ is working overtime. The head of MI5 was seen 'slipping out' of the backdoor of No10 this afternoon. Unis and mosques across the country have been posting 'celebrations of life' for the Ayatollah. They made a big fuss out of stopping that attack on Jews in Manchester a few weeks ago, so I hope they have their foot on the ball.
Ngl I am probably not going to Bham Cathedral for Easter though, I've already had a brush with attempted terrorism at services (Liverpool 2021), I will head for greener (whiter) pastures.

They don't need commanders to tell them to act. The lack of commanders is a bigger problem. If they're all ready to go and there's no one to tell them to wait for a better moment they will go off. It's a now or never moment for them.
Are we really worried about the news radicalising fucking muslims of all people?
Serial killers inspire more people to kill. He's concerned already radical muslims (lol as if non radical ones exist) will be inspired by others. Or just think we're at war with Iran and they're our enemies now.

Will petrol and diesel prices go up now?

With Jews you... get 50% price spikes in petrol? I'm sure glad that we're a vassal state to a country whom are themselves slaves to Jewish prophesy. Being on the Imperial periphery is so fucking AIDS.
If you go back about 2 months I did mention essential components for Grangemouth being renewed even after the closure was announced.

Don't forget when your neighbour runs out of space in his own bin and tries to sneak it into yours and you have to go round there holding his bin bag and say "this yours mate?"
Probably double posting but it’s worth it.I have the opposite view. I always tell dog walkers to dump dog poo bags in my bin.

I know waste and recycling both get incinerated. I’m not playing the game of separating and sorting and if they want to check they can just go shuffle dog poo.

So much for Reform sweeping the elections, they got the shit kicked out of the by the Greens in the by-election last week

The shit skin's voted en bloc for the party that promised them more free shit and they won in a landslide. Expect this result to be repeated in all the upcoming elections and watch the Tory's, Reform and Labour all get wiped out and replaced by massed Jeet votes.

This is what happens when you let foreigners into your country en mass, they vote for only for other shitskins.

Expect the floodgates to open in 2027 as the mudslimes practically take over the UK government on the local level then the national level.

Canada and Australia your not more then a year away from this too you know.

Britain does suck though lmao.
We really don't have it that bad, yeah it's a perpetual decline circling the drain the country is going to the dogs and there's too many dirty foreigners, but it's not that bad, in actual shitholes the lights don't come on sometimes and not even the bottled water is safe and they don't even know what scone is never mind how to pronounce it.
Makes sense for us to moan about it because we see it enshittening in real time, but dumb stupid foreigns? They're just jealous they don't have a formerly great nation in the first place.

Alright, I need to get something off my chest: I am sick of people using the expression "not my/his/her/their cup of tea".

For some reason this seems to be a particularly popular expression in America. I've heard everyone use it, from iDubbz to our beloved Jersh. And every time I'm just thinking, what do you know of tea? These people aren't drinking tea, in cups or otherwise, and they think they get to use that idiom?

No, that's our idiom. English idioms for the English.

Eta:

Winds of the World, give answer! They are whimpering to and fro,
And what should they know of tea, who only Liptons know?
