A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I could rant about Reform and Lowe's party but instead I am terribly hungover from drinking a little too much last night and the leftover pizza drenched in chili sauce hasn't hit the spot.

Two coffees in and instead of feeling perked up I feel like I'm about to shit myself.

Why would Keir Starmer do this?

Get thee some Alka seltzer and fresh air.

If you've puked, don't brush your teeth for a whiles, it'll ruin your enamel if you do

Hope you feel better fren. Hangovers suck balls.

Starmer was elected with a majority of the vote and seats in parliament for Labour but a record low turnout of voters.
Point of fact, he didn't get a majority which is more than half. Labour got 34% of the vote only. And even that was a historical low of < 60%. A wild number of seats, but not votes.

What do you mean? The worst of the bunch just shed their blue coats and jumped over to Reform like they had absolutely nothing to do with fucking over the country over the last 14 or so years. The fox jumping into a bucket of purple paint is still a fox.
Honestly, I feel the Tory party is stronger for the turncoat's departure. Politics is getting more extreme and I think the time for Broad Church politics is on the wane. People want a narrower focus that they actually trust will be delivered on. That's why I think Restore will get off to a very strong start. Nobody ever said "Oh, this party has Boris Johnson's mates in it, they get my vote!".

Call me schizo, but I think the Beeb is laying the ground for a Rayner premiership within the next year.

One giant boys' club? Why Westminster can still feel like a man's world - it's an OpEd by kuenssberg. The core of the story seems to be that Starmer puts off meeting with women as much as possible and likes to leave them hanging when they get in trouble.
Labour have felt a growing humiliation that the Tories have had a three female prime ministers (and four party leaders) whilst they've had none (think they had a temporary fill in?). The reason of course is that to get to the top in politics you have to have a certain sort of attitude and whilst women with that sort of attitude exist, that same attitude almost always inclines them to the Right. It's frankly hilarious that not just in the UK but all over, the Right which always gets called sexist has more female leaders. Simply because the Right is more typically meritocratic and capable women prefer that because they thrive there.

Same with Jenrick, but the problem is they will leave once Reform goes down to 25-20 points.
Leave for where? Tories wont have 'em back and I have a strong feeling that Advance and Restore (kind of like the sound of that, tbh) wont take them.

Is this supposed to make you feel better or are you deliberately prolonging the suffering?
If anybody ever doubted Otterly's female credentials, let this post stand as a witness. Is there a man born who wont cheerfully shuffle downstairs, find some cold pizza from last night and scarf it down?

It’s the chili oil I object to. Cold morning after pizza is fine, it’s just irritating your stomach lining further with lashings of chili oil seems like pure masochism.
We ladies are not immune to next-day cold takeout after a hard night ;)

Don't mock men for our love of burning chilli. It's the only socially acceptable form of crying we have.

Measles outbreak in North London
Dudu Sher-Arami, Enfield's director of public health, told The Sunday Times that London had "one of the lowest, if not the lowest, vaccination uptake rates" in the country, making the capital especially vulnerable to an outbreak.

As for Advance/Restore, there's talk of Reform councillors switching over, which I'm okay with on a council/local scale. I hope A/R focuses on getting 'new blood' into politics and people from the local areas rather than poaching nothing but other Party members.

Farage/Reforms problem is simple; he let the nationalist cat out the bag. Civic Nationalism is a term that historically, and originally, refers to the shared culture and values of European countries and explained shit like Czechoslovakia (before they broke up) and encouraged Euros to stop gassing each other, and is a total cope to apply to any other kind of society. It also, imho, does not help that Israel/Palestine has dominated the news cycle for a while and people have been bombarded with 'they have a right to their country!' for years. [Ethnic] Nationalism is back on the menu, and Farage didn't realise how big an appetite people have for it.

Update: Shat out a Cumberland sausage so clean it was a straight no wiper. Took about three flushes to get rid of and feel about three stone lighter. Hangover completely removed and back to the land of the living just in time for Sunday roast.

If you genuinely think I'm going to post a pic of shit you're even more retarded than me

some replies. he keeps screaming 'you can't say scrap foreign aid that's not a foreign aid policy' but also is uneasy with the fact that all of Restore's policies are just on the website. He can't believe there 'isnt more to it'. What Restore says, they have as draft Bills already written up.

Why should we give any country foreign aid? Haven't we given them enough already considering we give out the most besides US. More so the fact every country we give money to still hates our guts and demands more.

Fuck em.

Dunno why Khaled is having a tanty about it, if Rupert gets in we'll be paying foreign aid in a far more precious currency, their own prodigal doctors and engineers being sent back.
