A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It doesn't change much, it's just one serpent slithering from one snake den to another, Reform was compromised from the very start.

Well, it's after 5 and I don't feel like dooming, so I'm off to the pub.

I won't buy anything. I'll just look at the prices until I feel light-headed.

It seems that a new Lowe-led party is imminent. This was posted about half-an-hour ago in response to today's events.

I am going to think long and hard over the weekend about my next step.

Britain doesn’t need mere reform from the same arsonists who burnt it to the ground.

A real alternative MUST be provided. I will do that.

Find Out Now have carried out a poll along that hypothesis, suggesting that such a party would start at 9% nationally.

The only thing we are missing here is a @madeinwales essay about how this is a genius 5D chess move by his pall nogel.
But he got butthurt and quit the thread so nevermind

someone post some sheep pictures to lure him back

Farage has announced Reform will NOT be taking any more defectors after May 7th and says a 'well known Labour member is joining next week'. Also Jenrick 'was not promised' any positions (ha, im sure) but he will get a role in the Front Bench after a reshuffle ''shortly''.

0% beer is just grain juice/cat piss for designated drivers and masochists.
It's also hilariously overpriced. The breweries are all marketing their zero percent brands because it's like they found a cheat code - charge the same as an actual beer but don't pay any duty.

Edit:

JENRICK ARE YOU FUCKING JOKING?!

Edit2:

We had it bros, we fucking had it. A third party, on the right, polling at 35%. It was right there, and these Westminster swamp lizards just absorbed it.

If Lowe can execute this perfectly, then Nigel will rage quit because he knows he cannot beat Lowe at all. Prime ministers are made, not created, and Farage has fumbled his voter base immensely to the point that it is beyond repair.

I'm holding out hope that a Lowe party or some such will shift the Overton window even more.

I will say I appreciate that Kemi's first action this morning was to boot up her laptop and immediately fire Rob via shitty webcam recording like a disgraced Youtuber. kino

If there's any consolidation. Despite reform polling lower the right's vote hasn't decreased it's only been split. As for the Greens. I'm guessing it's mostly where the ex-labour supporters are going. I wish I could see a gender breakdown for the greens. From what i've seen of Zack, it look like his voterbase it mostly young women and uni students.

Lowe seems to have much stronger ideological convictions compared to Nigel, but he's more economically driven than socially (could be good to help win over moderates). Still, if he were to win I hope his focus would be on dismantling the benefit's system for first generation immigrants and refugees. If he can make them destitute and unemployable(as in restricting them from being hired by Just Eat and Mc'd's) then they might fuck off to Germany or something.

Rupert chimes in
One message has been reinforced today, in THE most spectacular fashion.
Westminster is a vile snake-pit, infested with those who put their own personal interest above that of the country. There are an exceedingly small handful of patriots, but that number is vastly outnumbered by those who have their priorities in the following order.
Self. Party. Country.
Party politics has failed. It has failed all of us. It’s failed Great Yarmouth, it’s failed England, it’s failed Britain. It is a circus. A pantomime. A show. With no care for what’s really being inflicted on decent taxpaying men and women. They all treat it like a sport. It’s not. It is our country. Our home. Our people.
The solution? A Reform dictatorship that is packing its ranks with the very same people who decimated the country over 14 dire years? I think not.
Nadine Dorries? Jake Berry? Lee Anderson? Nadhim Zahawi? Really? Are these the people to turn this country around? A Labour defector is on the way too. I mean, really?
Even Jenrick, who has to take full responsibility for what happened on his watch as immigration minister. Entire communities transformed into what now resembles the third world. Vast streets of foreigners unable to speak English. Towns, changed beyond recognition. This is what they did to our Britain. All of them. Today, he betrayed his colleagues. That’s his choice.
I am of the view that nobody who has had any role in past Governments should be allowed by the British people to serve again.
The damage is just too immense, too grave, possibly even too irreversible. All these washed-up former MPs who are weaponising the rightful anger of the British people to slink back into Parliament. It’s sickening to watch.
Please remember this.
THEY DID THIS TO THE COUNTRY.
These are the people who destroyed Britain. They will not fix it. Reform will not fix it.
Farage was supposed to destroy the establishment, not join them. That is why I backed him for so long. I was wrong to do so.
Sadly, joining that establishment is all he cares about. He wants to be accepted by the people who spurned him for so very long. That is what drives him. Take revenge on a Conservative Party that refused to accept him, and then force them to bend the knee and kiss his ring. Party politics is dead.
We need an entirely different way of doing things - hundreds of men and women from outside politics, put forward for election. All of whom must have had NOTHING to do with how our country has been so abhorrently failed.I
am going to think long and hard over the weekend about my next step.

I would work out some kind of tax/penalty for companies that hire foreigners and migrants, make them unemployable.

Lowe party in charge with reform opposition? Could be fun.
We need the return of Saint Patrick, to drive the snakes from our fair isle.

Would a Lowe party even be viable? Would he be able to peel off enough Reform/Conservative voters for 2029?

I think so, out of all the UK politicians, Lowe has an imprint that is greater than Farage's. He has about 6,000,000 impressions weekly and is the most retweeted too. He is respected even cross party, and Reform knows that they cannot attack Lowe because a lot of their supporters are Lowe satellites. He is also a business and farm owner and is much loved in his constituency.

There is a reason Starmer tries to restrict questions from him because Lowe is the embodiment of what the Overturn window is currently. Internationally, too, he would do very well. I imagine Meloni, Tusk, and Orbin would love him; Trump and the GOP would adore him.
