A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I imagine he is moving to Lowe's group. Quite an astute move for Kemi as it binds Farage. It also makes it look like Farage goes around scraping the dregs of the Tory party. This could be massive for Lowe, as MPs could go to him instead. He is clearly a better leader and much more of a team player.

I have a schizoid prediction;
If Jenrick goes to Lowe's group, Tice will defect to Lowe's team. I say this because Tice is allegedly pissed with Farage after letting in Dorres and Zahawi; he views it as deluding the party (he's right). Oakshot clearly was not thrilled with it either; oddly enough, a lot of the TalkTV pundits are not. I have seen too that Anderson was not thrilled either. I can see Sarah Porchin defecting, too, as the burqa stuff annoyed her.

Why do the official figures believe that this current peak of immigration inflow will die down? Not like it’s not already fucking mental, but with the open door policy we currently have, why would the foreign wave stop at all? Know you said you struggled to find the figures, Duane, so maybe that’s part of the problem. All they have are the most optimistic shots in the dark meant to keep everyone sweet.
Foreigners breed more than Whites(Most mudslimes I see have around 2-3 kids). It could get to the point where the internal growth reaches a point where they have to stop migration from abroad. Obviously for us natives that's still bad.

They still dont know where he got the gun from to this day.

Current headlines are banning non-alcoholic drinks for under 18s, banning twitter (cancelled), banning over 70s drivers, banning some right wing Dutchie commentator, banning banning banning, and not a peep about leccy bills raping us, the water issues, or anything, idk, important.

GDP grew by 0.3% in November, all hail the mighty GDP.

EDIT: JENRICK SACKED???

well that was out of left field. the Times reported last month he was going to move to Reform. huh.
"You're not quitting you're fired!"
"I had an oopsy where The Daily Record/Mail/Sun/Guardian/Telegraph hacked my phone and now they have all the dirt on my ex party"

You know it's coming.

Further schizoid prediction if this happens, that Reform isn't going to get into power (and Lowe will become a serious threat). Adding more muzzies to Reform is going to piss off their supporters as nationalist fervor grows. Farage is a chihuahua, constantly barking but doing fuck all, meanwhile Lowe is shaking down Great Yarmouth hospital for only offering halal meat like a pitbull with a toddler in its jaws. He's also vocal about the death penalty, if the public are ready for that discussion to be had.

The alleged evidence from the Tories that Robert Jenrick was planning to defect:
- Farage and Jenrick spotted having dinner last month
- Conversations with Jenrick allies that were leaked to CCHQ
- Jenrick's team allegedly left a copy of his "near final" resignation speech "lying around"
- Jenrick cancelled a speaking engagement this weekend, and the belief was he would announce his defection in the next 24 hours

Jenrick is a shiny-faced tory boy who I have never really trusted. He says a lot of the right things, but he always looks just a little insincere. Right now, Reform seems to have turned into a dumping ground for wets and blue blairites, who can recite enough shibboleths to pretend they're against immigration without actually doing anything about it. Their departure might ironically end up forcing the tory party further to the right again.

Labour are going to call this a "return of tory sleaze", you mark my words.

Perhaps I am reading too much into it, but it feels like Team Jenrick were fishing for this outcome.

They would know full well that having dinner with Farage in public would be noticed and reported back. They would know that if they (Team Jenrick) told any Tories outside of their circle about Jenrick's intentions then it would be reported back. And it would be almost ridculously amateur for someone to print out a copy of a resignation speech and then just leave it lying around for others to see. It looks like a trail of breadcrumbs. Guido has also spoken to someone in Badenoch's office who says that she called Jenrick to confront him this morning - he gave a blanket denial and then immediately hung up.

Wut? All children to die of dehydration? I mean I wouldn’t put it past our government but still …
ah sorry, they are banning non-alcoholic alcoholic drinks for under 18s. not only does 0% heineken taste like piss, but its also a GATEWAY DRUG to REAL BOOZE.
Not really following their 'logic' here. Kids who drink either have parents who drink or get other adults to buy them booze. No one becomes an alky from 0%, this isn't like vaping which has its own health concerns, 0% beer is just grain juice/cat piss for designated drivers and masochists.

Guido archive.
A Tory source says Badenoch "didn't want to lose Rob." When Jenrick was called with the allegations this morning he "said he knew nothing about it before slamming the phone down."

Hops are helpful for certain digestive problems, and they aren't in any readily available foods. If you grow them yourself they'll probably kill everything else around and maybe crumble the foundation of your house. So, fake beer.

A dude with a 0% Guinness is just an asshole, though.

Total F*rage Death, I am unironically 🌈 right now, Jenrick is a slimey cunt but if he slithers into Lowe I will unironically subscribe to his newsletter.

Impressive that someone defecting to Reform has turned into a win for the Tories.

Honestly not sure how much it benefits them to pick up all of these very tarnished baubles from the Conservative party. If they try to say 'Well now we have MPs who have experience of high level ministry' then people will just look at the track record of those figures when they were in government.

Rob's alleged resignation letter
"The Tories and Labour have forfeited the right to govern the United Kingdom. And the mantle now passes to Reform. Nigel has stood for the real change we need for over a decade. If one puts party allegiance - personal ambition - to one side, he is obviously the right person to lead the movement for it - and delivery of it. And I am convinced Nigel will deliver the real change needed.
Thanks to Zia & Richard, Reform's policies already meet the moment more than any other party's. But they and Nigel know the extraordinary challenges Britain faces requires [ sic ] a comprehensive plan to turn things around. Developing the best one possible will be a major priority this year. As will [ sic ], as Nigel has said many times, building and recruiting the team to execute it.
For all these reasons, today, I am proud to become Reform's 281,000th member. To back Nigel. And join this movement. I know in my heart it's what's right by our country. If like me, you've backed another party but know it's lost its way, don't stay. Don't stay in a party that hasn't been loyal to you. When your country needs you. And, perhaps more importantly, if you've never been near politics before, but think you have the energy and ideas and experience to turn Britain around. Come join.
I agree Britain is broken. In major decline. On the brink. In need of real change. And know neither Conservatives nor Labour will deliver it. Come join Reform."
