A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

IIRC Lord Miles, of Afghani and crypto scamming fame, stated he used this very same method to circumvent a Schengen Zone ban for illegally crossing the border into Greece — he literally filmed himself crossing the border illegally from Turkey to Greece and uploaded it to YouTube lmao.

He said that all you have to do is change your name and get a new passport, and bingo, you're effectively a new person in their system. Probably all sorts of illegal, but this method isn't exactly some top secret spy knowledge, it's regularly used by journos and the criminal elements of society.

The lawyers seem to have fucked up and inadvertently revealed how they really got the passport.

The spectator has published an ‘apology’ which is pretty funny, and worth a read.

I thought that Nick Lowles ran HnH?

Brendan Cox is, as you rightly point out, a perv but I didn't think that he had any involvement with HnH.

If he has, I wouldn't be too surprised - Kevin Maguire was part of their Board IIRC.

100% been to Cali, driving through the Valleys, and it is a stunning part of the world. I will say CA had some amazing restaurants too, and some great fusion culture. Even though I am mostly in the South, I fucking love Utah; it has great weather, and the people are great, even though Mormon as a Christian, they respect your denomination. My other half is just looking to buy the first home, and I am impressed with the value, it makes our propoerty look like shit in terms of value. You can buy a 2,200 sqf, 3 bed in a desirable area for $300,000.

It's fucked that the only people I care about over in the UK is friends, some family and if people in this thread are convicted.

Say faggot Lowe, you know you want to.
Only reason I'm sticking round in this country is friends and family, the fact I have a property here already, and got a well-paying and stable job lined up very close to me. If I didn't have those reasons I'd be long gone too. Crazy how the US has comparable or far better house prices compared to houses here.

That's because we live on an overcrowded island, while they have a million and a half square miles of empty space still to go.

Gees, I am meant to be the pinko liberal commie possible secret negro in this thread.
Definitely not White.

I think I mentioned this story here, if not the full post from WalesOnline reads thus:

'A malnourished and dehydrated four-week-old baby was left for hours lying on cold and damp bed sheets at an understaffed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) before he died, an inquest has heard.

Lakshith Guptha Nalla died at the University Hospital of Wales in the early hours of May 11, 2024. Pontypridd Coroners' Court heard that since that day his parents' lives have "changed forever".

Coroner Rachel Knight highlighted a series of failures by medical staff that happened in the previous days. The "persistent and gross understaffing" of the unit left the baby without feed for four hours and meant no-one noticed he developed an infection or that he was lying on cold wet bedding.

Ms Knight described baby Nalla as "vulnerable" and "entirely dependant on the NICU" before explaining how on May 9, 2023, nurse Pasqualina Mollo, the nurse responsible for baby Nalla, disconnected the feeding tube to allow the infant to have cuddles with his parents. Baby Nalla was prescribed constant feed.

It was not until after it had been removed they noticed that there were no new feeding lines on the ward at the time. This was due to their "chaotic" stocking systems and because a delivery had not turned up.

Ms Knight said: "I find it surprising that feeding tubes were not available on the biggest neonatal ward in Wales," adding that they are a basic essential.

Nurse Mollo had to call Island Ward, which is around five minutes away, and take six from there. It was not until an hour and a half later that they actually got the tubes which is when Nurse Mollo fitted the new one on baby Nalla.

But as she was "in a rush" to go and help deliver another baby she mistakenly did not fit his feeding tube properly. She also did not inform anybody of the hours of feed he missed or conduct blood tests to ensure the hours without food had not affected his condition.

It was heard that "the staff on the ward were asked to do too many jobs during their shift" and they were made to look after twice the number of patients they should be looking after in the NICU.

As well as no food baby Nalla's paperwork was also missing in parts including, most crucially, any observations between 4pm and 5pm on May 9.

At around 4pm another nurse recognised baby Nalla "seemed different." Blood samples were taken and the results were described as "worrying" as he was found to be hypoglycaemic, and to be suffering with metabolic and respiratory acidosis. He was also found to be cold.

At 6pm staff noticed baby Nalla was not connected to his feed properly and hadn't been for the past four hours. They saw his feeding tube was leaking and that "he was lying on cold wet bed sheets".

The court heard the impact of this period with no feed would have impeded the baby's ability to fight off any infection as he was using his own reserves, which were extremely limited due to his vulnerability and his size.

The survival rate of sepsis in premature babies is around 25-30% and so even less for baby Nalla who was trying to fight it alongside two other conditions – all while being hypoglycaemic, malnourished, dehydrated, and cold.

Ms Knight described baby Nalla's care as "wholly inadequate" due to the failures and missed opportunities, most notably where he went four hours with no feed.

She said his lack of care in the days before his death was an "unfortunate coincidence" and added the issue of neglect could not be legally made out by a very narrow margin.

The child's cause of death was given as sepsis, peritonitis, and necrotising enterocolitis. There was no evidence that being fed as prescribed could have saved baby Nalla.

Ms Knight came to a narrative conclusion for baby Nalla's death. The conclusion stated: "Baby Nalla was born at 30 weeks and four days gestation with a congenital condition that required surgery. This surgery was undertaken the day after he was born and he was making a full recovery.

"Baby Nalla should have been nursed at a one-to-one ratio as per the guidelines. Due to staffing levels on the ward and missing equipment he was not nursed to the standard he should have been and was not fed at all for four hours.

"He was showing signs of necrotising enterocolitis, which is likely his cause of death. There is insufficient evidence that the complications surrounding baby Nalla's feed contributed to his death."

With regard to the prevention of future deaths Ms Knight said she was satisfied with the health board's changes to stocking and staffing at the NICU. The health board is expected to be sending Ms Knight a letter further outlining these changes.

Baby Nalla's father said in a statement read to the court earlier in the hearing that he and his family had dreamed of a life in the UK which is why they moved to Cardiff but after losing their son they have moved back to India.

He asked for his son's body to be donated to science in the hope it may prevent the same thing happening to other babies.'

The excuses then:

* University Hospital Wales (Cardiff) is under staffed and staff are stressed
* Staff couldn't even fit a feeding tube and it took too long to check on the baby's health
* Paperwork missing - useless Admins then

'It won't happen again, we'll make changes'.

A few weeks later...

Sad that a little baby had to suffer needlessly, but at least there's one positive outcome to the story.

A terrible story and my heart goes to the family who lost their child.
This is another damning indictment of our terrible infrastructure which we are all paying over the odds for, and how immigrants are being lied to about a better life in britain, only to be given no hope, no jobs and no chance of succeeding in contributing.

If we can't look after them and help them flourish, we should not be encouraging them to come here. What an awful state our once proud country and empire is in. Despicable.

We should not have to look after (i.e. pay for) any foreigner at all. Why are we supposed to 'help them flourish'? They should be helping Britain flourish, anything else is parasitic.

Commonwealth guests should be working their bollocks off to pay for private healthcare, instead of however many thousands of Brits who now can't access the NHS. Or, I don't know, maybe their governments could pay the UK something to cover 'free' healthcare out of the millions in benefits remitted there.

ETA: This is just a variation of '30 heartbreaking pictures that will make you say fuck laws n borders n shit'. Don't fall for the obvious emotional blackmail.

Uh huh. That's a great reason to remove the life giving nutrient supply tube. I bet they were hassling her non-stop. Well good job, now your kid is dead.

Absolutely 100% in agreement.

The 'oh please be kind, be nice' message no longer resonates with people - even with charities advertising on TV the response overall is now 'enough, I no longer care.'

Slowly, the mood is changing - spoke with an EV driver at the shops earlier who is 'beyond angry' with Reeves and Labour and everybody he knows no longer supports them (he regrets giving them his vote back in 2024). He said 'I and others used to care about the environment and doing good, now why should we - we've been hoodwinked, we've been lied to and it hurts badly.'

He mentioned that Environmental Pressure Groups are going to demand Reeves cancels the 3p per mile charge on EV's or there is the chance that she could be directly reported to the ECHR for committing crimes against the environment.

Ironic that Starmer wants to fight to stay in the ECHR when he and his ministers could well be reported to them very soon.

As it stands, you're right, but as a first world, superior country we should not be in a position that a guest comes to our country and we kill their baby through incompetence and failed migration policies.
It's a shambles and a failure of our nation to kill people, regardless of background, because our infrastructure cannot support them.
It makes a mockery of everything we pay for and stand for.

It isn't about money, we have more than enough of it, but it is pissed away in the wrong places and spent ineffectively because governments for decades have gotten away with "just increase taxes" instead of spending wisely, which again comes down to incompetence.
It's the governmental equivalent of a game requiring a 5080ti to run because the code is sloppy and poorly executed. Where the optimised version runs on a 1080ti. It's incompetence and embarrasses us on the world stage.

This is not the same thing.
This is "look how shit we are as a country that we can't even keep indians - who have evolved to survive in squalor and filth, alive in our once world-class healthcare system".

,I'm not pro migration, but if we're going to do it, if we as a nation are going to tell the rest of the world that we're the best, then for fuck sake at least do it properly.

a guest comes to our country and we kill their baby
What guest?

They aren't guests, they're at best squatters. And I've no doubt the congenital problem was caused by one or more of: the parents having lifelong poor nutrition, the parents having chronic disease that was wiped out in the civilised world 100 years ago, a family tree with no branches.
