A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

The thing with hybrid and EV cars is fucking wonderful. People who drive those cars are the smuggest most insufferable cunts going. Their shitarse cars are heavier and destroy roads far faster than diesel and petrol vehicles.

Suffer, EV cunts.
A guy at my work is always going on about how great his EV is since he can preheat the car using an app on his phone.

Drive the car, thruppence a mile,
Thruppence, thruppence, thruppence a miiiiiile

Just got off the phone to my Financial Adviser, thankfully I'm not going to be too worse off than I had thought, but the mood from the business community is that 'Nick Leeson with tits' has just completed Labour's last ever budget - the mood is that bad.

Now that it's done, let's see what the fall out will be.

As always your optimism is genuinely lovely and I sincerely hope you're right. No sarcasm btw I really do mean that.

Also Nick Leeson with tits is brilliant. She absolutely is.

Part of me likes to imagine that's actually your voice and that you look a bit like Troy Hawk, complete with smoking jacket 😂 😂

I have to work tonight and lots of our clients have been twitchy about today. I'm gonna (while I still can cos they've been scaremongering about these and all and you just know the Government is gagging to ban) shove a couple of dispersable solpadeine max down my gullet and hope for best.

There are so many ways that stupid cunt could have made or saved money. A gambling tax with an exemption for horse racing especially shows how much they despise working people (all gambling is a mugs game IMO but it's offensive they leave off the sport the toffs like).a tax on vapes. Banning all benefits for all migrants. Cutting legal aid for all migrants.

Putting into law bans on the BMA and AHCP degrees and solicitors regulatory bodies throttling jobs and placements and training contracts would kick start native workers plugging sorely needed vacancies in essential roles.

No free at point of use medical or dental for foreign nationals. Decimate all foreign aid except temporary assistance from armed forces when we can spare them for natural disasters to countries who aren't fucking useless over. No more translators ever, except for the few poor bastards demonstrably trafficked here who are helping police before being sent home (even I recognise this does happen). Expenses for all MPs cut to the bone. Standardised centrally issued kit, no choice unless for MSK related reasons, no you cannot get us to pay £900 for a desk for WFH you prick.

What else...telling unions to get fucked and an instant ban on unions raising money for Labour. Ban on inflation busting pay rises for any of their staff. No social housing for anyone who entered the country illegally, or their kids, ever. Ban halal and kosher and Muslim face coverings with massive 5 figure fines for those who do the slaughters or wear the tea towel.

Instant scrapping of all payments to France and charging them per person for every illegal who we return to them. Instant revokation of ITLR for anyone who goes back to the country they said was unsafe, and a bill sent to their countries government for all costs to use, with compound interest.

There I fixed the economy and I haven't even got out my jimjams yet (though in my defence I got into them at 0830 and have been sleeping most of day).

Feeling pretty vindicated on not getting an electric car now lol

This is going to be applied to everyone and likely not in the distant future. If they suddenly announce an oxygen tax on vegans, funny as it might be, your second thought should be, "I'm next aren't I?"

I'm well aware of this, however the one point in all of this is that it's absolutely enraged every EV owner or leaseholder I know and they're all,to a one, smug insufferable bastards. I know it'll be coming down the road but their tears and rage are absolutely my Pyrrhic victory.

This budget isn't as bad as it seems.
Because the budget isn't some shotgun to the face with what it is changing. It's a lot of small cuts aimed mostly at business owners and the wealthy with a lot of smaller stealth taxes thrown in. Much like the last one we will see the effects of this materialize in the coming months as businesses go bust or stop hiring. God forbid you are an under 21 right now. With these minimum wage increases, no one is going to hire you as it's not worth the risk.

The only winners here are dosers and brown people since guess who tends to have a lot of kids, sucks up an unfair amount of the states benefits fund and will be the new worker of choice in these low skill, entry jobs that under 21's like to go for.

They do this every budget now. They hint it will be one that will sink the economy within 12 hours, then just arse rape every who works hard, so people comment "this budget isn't as bad as it seems."
Is it just me, or is the weeks of hints and maybes and uncertainty akin to having an abusive spouse and never knowing what mood they'll be in? Or is it autism (spoiler:we're on Kiwi Farms. It's nearly always autism).

Threatening with or carrying a knife in the UK carries a minimum sentence of 6 months, so that goes to these courts. The maximum for stabbing someone without killing them (grievous bodily harm) is 5 years, but not the minimum, meaning a lot of stabbers could potentially be dealt with swiftly and with velvet gloves under this proposal.
Some slight corrections, the minimum for possession of a bladed article in a public place is actually 3 months, the 6 months minimum only applies to people caught a second time or further with offensive weapons. For other offensive weapons it can be even as low as fine or community order.

Also, yes you're right that GBH, under s20 of the OAPA 1861, carries a max of 5 years, but that wouldn't really apply to stabbing someone willingly, it's more for situations where someone is reckless about causing some harm — think like two people in a fight, one glasses the other causing serious harm, he didn't intend to cause a gbh, just to harm a person.

Section 18 of the OAPA 1861, gbh with intent, carries a max sentence of life imprisonment, and that is more appropriate for cases where it can be proven that the defendant intended to cause serious harm, as in person a going to stab person b.

Also these offences have sentencing guidelines, which the judge must explain their reasoning if departed from, meaning the prosecution is able to appeal the sentence, if it is overly lenient.

So this isn't quite a Soviet style kangaroo court system, but honestly it's not far off, as judges are a lot more pliable than members of the public. You're already much more likely to be found guilty in the Magistrates Court (which handle the vast majority of cases), than by a jury of your peers, so this would only end up making that problem, much, and I can't emphasise this enough, MUCH worse.

If the government were serious about fixing the issue of the backlog they have many other avenues, that wouldn't fundamentally breach human rights, to start from.
My mate with his endless complaining about the judiciary becoming proven right again. I know people who hung around the inns of court and those types - they are all going down the left wing branch. Join our talks about homosexuality and woman and blacks for part of your qualifying sessions etc. The increased "lack of professionalism" seen in these professions as they have described to me - people putting up what is meant to be confidential information/details about cases on their linkedin, or solicitors changing submissions of junior barristers before they go up to court, but keeping it under the name of the junior - and the inn allowing the solicitors to get away with it because they are the go-to for cases etc.

These are the types of people who are going to be in on these Mags courts and being a singular judge - an unaccountable tier of judge who is part of this increasingly left wing and likely to become less impartial.

I realised recently that my Swiss army knife I have for hiking isn't legal for me to carry as it's got a locking blade. Meanwhile there are plenty of cool folding knives which are just as sturdy. I don't understand the locking blade bit. Maybe it's a weird catch all as Stanley knives (I think American's call them utility knives) as their blade length would technically be legal? Then again, I'd rather use a three inch folding knife in a pinch as a weapon than a Stanley knife.

I've had it for years and didn't used to worry as the police used to sensible. Who the fuck is going to stop and search someone with a backpack, hiking poles, and a water system coming off it? Well, now I realise we have 4'9" police women who are power mad and probably have a quota of whities to search so carefully balance out the number of dangerous darkies they search.

So I either have to leave it at home now or sick it deep in my pack so I can't immediately access, which is a pain as it defeats the purpose of it being an emergency too, and still risk having to ultimately argue in court I had good cause to carry it (which the arrest will show up on my record regardless of the outcome next time I need security clearance for a project.) Carrying an axe for wild camping is the same legal nightmare.

Our laws are fucking gay,
