A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

If you come out of new street station onto new street and walk up, thats floozy and the museum. (alternatively follow the tram tracks to 'Town Hall' station. its a 3 minute walk). There's always some kind of thing going on outside Town Hall like this homeless guy and his two dogs protesting his eviction, the socialists, the pro-palestinians trying to sell you bus tickets, or the Chinese cult. however there are a couple St George crosses up nowadays.
Thank you. I will venture up there once terror week is over. Hopefully the museum is as good as the website makes it look.

Is there anything else worth checking out? I'm not looking to venture much further out than that area this trip. Bit of Christmas shopping for the autistic kids in the family

The Synagogue attack is been classified as a terrorist incident.

One can't help but notice that when a member of islam kills white people the media rush to say "no apparent reason for the attack", "Let's not speculate", before they settle on "mentally ill".

But one attack on a synagogue and it's islamic terror before we know the guys name? Very sus.

And that fat fella is 100% Muslim, probably pakistani origin, second generation. Gotta love the true and honest media for applying whitening filters on him.

depends on what flavour of autism, I'm going to assume Bandai Namco is a good place to start. TokyoToys on Corporation Street (follow the tram) is a small chain/indie store that sells TCG and all sorts of anime (friends used to work there in college) but a bit crowded and overwhelming. The Great Western Arcade has a bunch of independent stores like ye olde sweet shoppes, another card game/hobby/vinyl records store (at unit 31) that usually has great record selections, and is just nice to stroll down. Minories Arcade is opposite Bull Street Tram Stop and has another hobby shop that i think is more models focused. The Waterstones is quite nice. Don't bother going into Digbeth imho, nothing really worth it there. If you want a pint while waiting for the train back don't go to the Spoons in New Street (don't eat in there, tbh), theres a pub called Bacchus by the tram stop underneath the Burlington Arcade/Hotel, real interesting bit of history and very unique architecture.
Kemi Badenoch (who?) is set to announce a plan to leave the ECHR. Gosh Reform really does have these parties on the ropes.

And neither Labour nor the tories know or care why reform's policies are popular. This leads to policies brought in by labcon to be laughably off the mark.

"You wanted a reduction in immigration, how is tightening the controls not getting it?"
"You said you didn't want migrants in hotels anymore, so we've filled army bases instead!"

Just as an aside, between 1st october and 1st March, the "off season", there are approximately 150,000 caravans in the country, with 90% of them sat empty.
I wonder how long it will take...

I hadn't thought of that. I was assuming they'd jump to having people "voluntarily" house migrants in spare bedrooms.

Thank you. I'll make a list and go check them out. I assume they're all within a like 5 minute walk? Don't want to end up lost in Birmingham.

Don't give them any ideas Duane.

Looking at the news from Manchester today I was deeply saddened. Those innocent people, struck down as they attended a religious service on the most holy day in their calendar. An act of barbarity, committed by a barbarian.

As I looked at the pictures from the scene, all I could think was "why would Tommy Robinson (real name Stephen Yaxley Lennon) and Nigel Farage do this?"

the actual town centre is very small, everything is on/near the tram tracks so you'll be good. don't worry, you won't end up in the sparkhill ghettos. don't go near pigeon park/Chamberlain square, they often do the homeless showers there

The suspected bomb-belt was 'not viable', which I interpret to mean it was so shoddily wired it wouldn't have been able to detonate (they're not sending their best...). PLATO have been stood down, major incident status remains in place. Now we wait and see how COBRA spins this. EDIT: ninja'd.

That's after the caravan parks are destroyed by mostly peaceful, mostly children, mostly fleeing a war torn country, boat person.

I'll admit, seeing this terror story of abdul killing jews right above the old top story of "police are racist" on the BBC site, gave me a chuckle.
I guess those evil racists might have a point, right jewish-loving lefty?

Srsly. One of the big things about the Met documentary was a copper basically saying "They're not like us, they'll never be like us, and they don't like us" about the mohammedans, and the beeb had a right fit of the vapours about it.

I expect his "non-viable" Semtex waistcoat was actually a fake, as he'd have gone full allahu akbar with it rather than the car and knife approach otherwise.

Couldn't have released that undercover footage at a worse time.

I assume non-viable meant it was loaded with explosives, but he had done a shit job of rigging it up, otherwise they would have said fake?
