A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Police not identifying the suspect "for safety reasons".

My money is on those safety reasons being it is going to kick off, big time if this is a boat brown.

This place leans heavily far right, which when it comes to the Israel vs Palestine question has the bulk of us seeing Israel/Jews as the lesser evil. We don't tend to get the absolute crackpot Jews who are some of the most irritating people you will ever meet in your life, but everyone has passed a postbox and her handler and felt incredibly uncomfortable.
I don't think any of us are on Israel or Palestine's side. We're "I hope they both wipe each other out" from what I've seen. As long as they're away from us they can do whatever they want to each other.
If you’re ever unfortunate enough to find yourself in Birmingham the art gallery is actually quite nice.
Which one? I have been trying to visit the big art galleries and major land marks as well. Cathedrals and churches before they get turned into mosques are on the top of to do lists.

Which one?
Assuming it is the main one on Victoria Square, next to ol' Floozy the fountain lady.
Briefing update - GMP believe they know the identity of the attacker, two further arrests have been made; 2 victims killed and 3 more in a serious condition + another photo of the suspect, including knife of peace and the white belt

How close is that to the train station? There's a museum like 2 streets down from it.

@Elysian That's the one I was looking at yea. Go to pay tribute to Cobes and see the Ozzy stuff.

So they’re not even going to pretend it’s a lone wolf and then quietly arrest 30 other people?
I have noticed that the government and media have really stopped giving a shit recently. It's like the cutesy but badly made front has been removed from the sausage making factory; and you're just left staring at the whole grizzly business. The guys running it just shrug at you and add more sacks of meat to the grinder; the PR man looks you up and down and says "Look, do you want it or not?"

Euston station in London was shut down after an unspecified "security incident."

Commuters travelling through London Euston face travel disruption this evening following an evacuation of the station.

TfL Access shared an announcement on X (Twitter), posting “This station is closed due to a security alert” shortly after 3pm on Thursday.

Avanti West Coast added: “Due to a security alert at London Euston, the station has been evacuated, and all services in and out of the station have been suspended until further notice.”

Emergency services, including the police and London Fire Brigade, were pictured responding to the scene.

According to National Rail, all lines reopened within 20 minutes, but cancellations and delays in and out of the station are expected to continue until 8pm.

London Euston wrote on social media: “There’s disruption at Euston this afternoon after the station was evacuated for a short period. The station has safely reopened, but passengers should check @nationalrailenq for the latest train info.”

It added: “Be safe, Be patient, Be kind.”

If they did this once - just one time - when the suspect was white, then maybe we wouldn't be able to infer, with 100% accuracy, that the suspect is a brown person when they do do this.

If you come out of new street station onto new street and walk up, thats floozy and the museum. (alternatively follow the tram tracks to 'Town Hall' station. its a 3 minute walk). There's always some kind of thing going on outside Town Hall like this homeless guy and his two dogs protesting his eviction, the socialists, the pro-palestinians trying to sell you bus tickets, or the Chinese cult. however there are a couple St George crosses up nowadays.
This clip from SkyNews is going around of the reporter referring to the synagogue as a mosque twice. Different video/angle here so seems legit. A pretty major gaffe to make while reporting a terror incident imho. No update on suspect but reports of helicopters over Manchester and police still in the streets, I bet there's going to be more arrests if they knew the guy- you could say thats why they haven't released his name to not tip off associates but if this was a white guy we would know he was white 100%

The thing everyone said would never happen has happened again.
It added: “Be safe, Be patient, Be kind.”
Condescending triplets like this make me want to stab someone.

You just know they're hoping for an actual mosque attack, so they can condemn the "far right" again. It's their default assumption that attacks will be against muslims.

Oh it was a bomb that they had to detonate @XD2910342

Police are investigating a suspect package at a popular UK station.

Met Police confirmed concerns have been raised over an item found at Euston Station. Pictures online show an emergency service presence at the scene.

A spokesperson explained that a cordon has been put in place as a "precaution". An ambulance car and specialist officers were reported to be at the scene.

Confused passengers took to Twitter and said the station was "evacuated". One witness said: "Something is going on at Euston Station; it seems like the whole area is cordoned off."

One woman said: "Just heard a massive explosion near Euston Road. Now the streets are flooded with sirens." Another person said: "Station at #euston been evacuated and cordens all over the place. Plenty of police and incident support teams. Not quite sure what's going on."
The force said: "We’re aware of reports online about an incident in the vicinity of Euston Station. Police cordons are in place as a precaution while officers investigate a suspect package. We will provide further updates on this thread in due course."

Met Police addressed the frightening sounds heard by locals in the area in an updated statement. The force added: "A controlled explosion has been carried out by specialist officers and the police cordons have now been lifted. Thank you for your patience."
