A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

sadly yeah, I know way too many people who will simply just roll over and do it if it means they can still have their beer and kick ball. Same thing happened with the jab for many people and it will all be too likely here as well.

Personally I will flat out refuse to have a digital ID, any job the requires one will be on my personal black list and anyone who I do find out who has one will lose any ounce of respect from me and will be given the mental label of "cuck".
Honest to God, it's like the fat, gammon faced spastic wants to make people hate him.

Like he's facing leadership challenges. There's a total lack of unity in the party and people despise him. And he keeps coming out with utter pish like this.

That or someone is pushing for this behind the scenes and is threatening him with something that makes it worth the stress that I'm sure he's feeling. Only question of course is what would that be?

They're in Davos, I reckon

Reeves was summoned there a couple years back. She's got her orders and all

Because you just made it fucking legal and changed nothing. You even picked an obvious propaganda piece for the first trade by saying it was a family. But a family is even worse because they breed like rabbits. "Won't someone think of the children" should have people thinking what happens to those children when they grow up.
So at absolute best that's one less British family getting a house, child a place in a school and of course less amenities for British people as a whole.
This is a victory purely and simply on the basis that this family are less likely to be a rapist or a terrorist....
......that theory worked out well with the Rudakubana family.

When are the politicians going to get that it is NONE in and several million out ?

I give this about a 10% chance of actually coming into force.

-It will require new legislation, which means it has to be passed by Parliament.
-The Starmtroopers in the Commons will get in line, but as this is not legislation to enact a manifesto promise the Lords are not bound by the Salisbury Convention and so are entitled to water it down or reject it entirely (as they are currently doing with Shipman's Charter).
-All of which means this almost certainly wouldn't become law until 2027 at the very earliest.
-The government would then have 2 years at most to build a system that meets the goals of the legislation. How many government-led IT projects have been delivered within 2 years, ever?
-I would be amazed if Reform and the Lib Dems do not campaign on scrapping it.

The 10% is because there is the chance that the government gets its shit together for once and\or a future government whelks on a promise to repeal.

Mentioned this a couple of days ago. They know they are unpopular, they know that they are likely out come the next election or sooner. So they are going to force through as much of Blairs grand plan as possible then imbed it into the system so that the bureaucracy will block any of reforms attempts to remove it.

Being popular or having a mandate means 0 to this government. If they can effectively set the system to be always be run their way then Reform being in power will not at all matter. Digital ID is the 1 thing Blair was never able to get through when he was in power and it's bothered him for decades. It's very clear from how hard current Labour is pushing the idea and Blairs quangos are showing very miss leading or out right lying statistics about the public wanting ID's or what the effects of a forced ID would be.

I guess you could say Labour is showing the effects of "final stage democracy". You can have a choice on if you want to die by 1 thousand cuts or by a shotgun blast through the head.

The ignorance of the SNP perfidy can't be ignored forever, and indeed, the situation is moving fairly quickly.
Glasgow City Council is about to go bust, they've got a law that makes it illegal not to house the homeless, and any illegals who are turned down for asylum or housing are heading there and have to be housed, because "Refuweegees Welcome!". They've made a rod for their own back, and it's unsustainable and spilling into the rest of the country.
Scottish homeless get junky bedrooms in old run down houses. Foreigners get 4 star newly refurbished hotels with free food, taxis and 20 quid a week spending money. Isn't it wonderful? The Scottish homeless thing is a good thing when it's a white country with a small population. Even if they're junkies and criminals at least the local people know where they populate and when to give it a wide birth.
So at absolute best that's one less British family getting a house, child a place in a school and of course less amenities for British people as a whole.

And you know he'll be back on the next boat any way. 1 in 1 out doesn't solve the problem. It just trades a current rapist for a breeding sow.

The Answer Run is on the telly at the pub. Hosted by an unfunny twat called Jason Manford (his twitter makes him look like an even bigger twat if you're interested, bending the knee to dead niggers matter etc.) Any way, so the questions are political history. So you would be thinking a British TV show would have questions about our politics right? Not any more you racist xenophobe. Those white people need to know the history of American president's families. Teddy Roosevelt is such an important British figure we need to give the white people questions about him. But Pakis and niggers can have questions about the current football league or pop culture.

British quiz shows need British questions. Not this American bollocks. Call them fat and be done with it.

At what point do you make a choice between a digital ID and not being able to eat? What's that breaking point for most people?

Most people will just go along with it, but even the strongest resisters will have to do it soon. Don't forget how close we were to vaccine passports being mandated to go into a public place and seemingly most people were happy with it at the time.

The media is covering Batty Boy Kiers intentions to make people have digital ID cards.

Anyone think this will get arise from people or will they not give a fuck so long as the benefits, footie, and Uber eats keeps coming? I'm betting on the latter.
Would it not be possible for Reform to just say "any company that supports/works on this will be fined" and then the companies will refuse to implement it because it is almost certain they will enter power? I think they did something similar for Net Zero or some HS2 crap, can't remember, why not here?

Lurch becomes the first Labour MP to come out against digital ID, openly declaring it a Blairist plot.

I actually see the digital ID thing as an attack from government to Burnham, Rayner, the unions et al. Be interesting to see what union outrage we get during the weekend and conference.

They know they won't be in power for much longer and the next government is very likely not to be them. If they even pass this thing and get it built before the next election (fat chance it doesn't run 10 years late and triple its original budget), it'll very likely be scrapped.

Starmer's Head of Communications, Steph Driver, has now resigned. She's been with Starmer for six years (five in opposition).
This is a big one. This is like Alastair Campbell falling on his sword during the Blair years.

Driver leaving is a good indicator of just how fucked things are internally.

Starmer is retarded on multiple levels, and I will explain why. This is all regarding digital ID, but let's go. I apologise as it will be a lengthy post.

1) Party Mandate and Opposition

Firstly, 2/3s of LABOUR oppose it, with Reynalds being a whip, he will not be able to pass it as Reynalds has never in 1 day of his life been a whip, and he is the chief whip. That alone is 262 theoretically in opposition; if the Tories support this, they may as well seppuku themselves on next PMQs. Starmer in all his ego and stupidity, thinks cabinet support is party support. His cabinet is despised by most members, and cannot maneuver the house at all except for Rayner. At least Rayner had some humanity about her.

2) Reform

This is the one that makes me mimic @Crunkle 's avatar. Reform has a 34-point lead; you need 32 to win by a landslide, so now they have a mandate. I said 34 because the latest poll is rated D+ overall due to samples, etc, but from that provider is massive.

By doing this, all Farage needs to do for 4 years is oppose it and really hammer it home. He is thankfully starting to do this with immigration and welfare costs. This is a huge gift. To do this with such poor polling is political suicide.

3) Public reaction
To do this after the disaster that is the OSA is just mind-boggling. The public is pissed, even the moderates I have talked to in the pub are irate, and most of the people I talk to are apolitical. A store owner I talk with frequently has become very involved with politics now, because they hate Starmer and are considering running for MP.

Since Phase 2 launched, Starmer has lost 6 internal staff and 2 MPs. He is beyond fucked, imagine thinking to win over the centralists, right and left of the party, is "INSTALL POLICE STATE". Even the far left of the party is calling him authoritarian.

I suspect Driver went because she implored Starmer to fire Sweene,y but because he is Keith's brain, he refused.

Then two/three weeks ago they do the Phase Two of their government and hire Allan as Executive Head of Comms above her, now she's fucked off.
Yup, and, just like Campbell, she'll still be in the background in an "advisory role". Only this time she'll probably be backing whichever stalking horse looks like it has good legs.

I think her fucking off and Andy Burnham appearing back on the radar are not a coincidence.

-I would be amazed if Reform and the Lib Dems do not campaign on scrapping it.
Let's be real most people in power want this. Hoping that the government will see sense magically after decades on decades of retardation just won't happen. When has voting ever worked? The entire system is corrupt, if they're trying to push something then it's only a matter of time before they do it. Sure it will be a decade late and put the country in double as much debt but when has that ever stopped the government? It will just be yet another bullshit move by the government that will never help, it will just fuck over anyone who does things legally and will never impact those who don't but the government will never remove it because that would mean the government and those behind the scenes of it admitting they're wrong and their ego would never allow that. Just another way for the government to funnel money from the tax payer to it's overpaid contractors that they're all in bed with all under the guise of being helpful instead of yet another tax fraud scheme.
Starmer's Head of Communications, Steph Driver, has now resigned.
Is there actually anyone left in labour at the moment? And how the fuck can you have the entire seniority of a party quit and absolutely no consequences? If the majority of your party quit then maybe that should be an instant general election caller. If you voted for labour a year ago that was a completely different party to what is now in charge. How the fuck can there be more than weekly 'x person quits labour' headlines and it not trigger some sort of election?

I think her fucking off and Andy Burnham appearing back on the radar are not a coincidence.
I think there's quite a bit at play here. If the government announced this just to take the heat away from McSweeney, it's definitely a suicide move if it doesn't work because not only will you either have to u-turn on digital ID or back it whilst your top advisor who got you into power is found to have misappropriated funds and committed electoral fraud.

I reckon this came out of nowhere, the digital ID announcement, as a way to stop the media talking about either Burnham and/or McSweeney. Will become clearer during conference.

I reckon Philipson will win Deputy PM with union support, but with Lucy Powell currently leading the polling of Labour members and the fact she was fired a few weeks ago from government, that'll be a very cancerous appointment for Starmer. Bit of a tossup at the mo, I reckon.

And how the fuck can you have the entire seniority of a party quit and absolutely no consequences?
All of the advisors are unelected and chosen by the minister.

I think there's quite a bit at play here
The furore over digital ID is without a doubt deliberate. It has completely dominated the news cycle even when nobody knows the mechanics behind it (the details of the national ID card back in the day were leaked a full year before it was introduced), how it will be introduced or when it will be introduced. Is it bollocks? Of course it is. Has a lot the concern been manufactured? Yes.

While everyone is shitting bricks and larping as a digital Che Guevara (the reality being they'll fold as soon as buying a pint requires digital ID), the government is falling to pieces and Queer is clutching at straws trying to keep the whole thing together while pulling knives from his back and trying to hush up electoral fraud with a side order of having their hands in the till.

I wouldn't put Powell out of the running just yet. I've heard the "concentrate on running the country" line a couple of times today, so what lucid MPs they have left are under the kosh not to say anything retarded prior to the conference. I can imagine a few of them backing Powell just out of spite.
