A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Look a bit beat up TBH. But if you want to shag a granny with a big nose you're welcome to her.
Not now! But back in the day.....

I was also a big fan of Page 3's Leilani Dowding who is giga-based on X these days.

All it will take this winter is a proper cold snap doing in a few impoverished pensioners and people are going to go absolutely feral. Mrs Miggins the widow from down the road freezing to death while Abdul the rapefugee lives it up in the Hilton will.... have negative effects on community cohesion.

I would not put it this way.

But yes.

She knows that he'd get the limelight and attention, she'd get nothing (a bit like Clegg being second fiddle to Cameron for five years).
That could be exactly what she wants. She gets a position of merit with no real responsibility other than what she's already doing, would at most have to force Reform to agree to something (and it might not be something that impedes immigration stuff because the Tories are dangling by a thread) and she coasts by for a term like Clegg did and then leave politics to pursue a job that pays more much like he did – he now works at Facebook. It's worth noting his degree was in anthropology.

I could be mistaken though, but she doesn't strike me as someone being driven by ego. I see her as someone who views the job as a means to an end, which I think can apply to many politicians who achieve prominence. For instance, after Rayner – someone who has never received formal higher education – leaves politics or her loses her seat, she'll be able to use her experience as an MP/high-ranking party member in lieu of higher qualification to pursue high-ranking roles in the business/corporate world, which pays far more than being a politician. After Badenoch disappears from politics, you'll probably be able to read on her Wikipedia page about how she's now a big wig at Santander or something.

No corporation is touching Big Ange with a bargepole. She will glide into some sinecure in or adjacent to the public sector, probably something senior in a trade union.

As has been the case for her entire political career, Badenoch will be looked after by Gove. If he's still at the Spectator, she'll go there. If he's moved on, she will follow. She achieved nothing before getting into politics and if her political legacy is leading the oldest party in the country to its death then no-one is going to her the time of day.

I don't think any one thinks she lead the party to Death. The Death came from putting a paki and a weird mutt in charge. Black woman being in charge when the party has already collapsed is irrelevant.

Big Ange is forever public sector, which will suit her, its parasitical .

Badenock will fuck off to an Insight and Stategist Copmpany exposing mid level exposures worthy of consolidation.

Ed Davis will continue to bang a drum. Badly.

A fair point. I will revise my description of her leadership to chaperoning the party towards its death. The damage was done before but she has done absolutely nothing to slow the bleeding, because she is either too lazy, too incompetent or too scared to try.

Of course, one other thing in her favour is that if\when she is couped after the 2nd November she can afterwards claim that she would have fixed the party but wasn't given a proper chance.

Badenocks problem is that she is leading a party of soft brained liberals.

I don't care that she is black, despite my quite open racism, she happens to be half decent.

The modern Conservative Party is a grouping of soft brained, liberal fucking impotent, inbred wankstains that can't think beyond their own front door.

Babadook has had ages to actually fucking do something but has done exactly fuck all, it's boring, nothing worse than boring.
Member when Corbyn was feuding with half his own party? Those were good times, exactly the good shit you want from the opposition, Boobadooka doesn't even have any good internal strife going because she can't get anyone worked enough to give a toss to get mad at her, cause she's BORING, and also BLACK.

While i generally agree with the 'as long as people have the dole and takeouts and modern comforts they won't go rabid', I feel like we are reaching the end of the rope. How can you be kept placid with chinesism if you can't afford it. It might not be a winter of discontent but I really don't see Two Tier Keir lasting to the new year. It was already cold this morning, none of the economic forecasts are good. Reform has put cutting 230 billion of non-citizen benefits on the table, while Reeves scurries and scrounges to save pennies and wonders if she should tax pensioners instead (Why in God's name do we give benefits to non citizens?). Reform members ought to seek out cases of Brits being ignored by the government or facing harsh choices of eating or heating and provide food/bill money/even clearing up fly tipping or whatever in communities where they can if they want to look good and like a real government alternative.
However I'm shocked theres been no violence against migrants in Epping despite multiple sex crimes and an active threat to preschoolers, so maybe don't get your hopes up about the Right/an alternative government organising.

I believe in a strong state, with a decent national health system and safety net for the British.
I know these are a few pages back but it reminded my of a conversation I had with my normie friends before see linked, that like everyone in their mid-twenties/early-thirties I was obviously a socialist but that I also happened to think Britain was the greatest country on God's green earth, that is to say, a nationalist. The only issue being that those two being brought together doesn't have the most pristine of reputations.

Things change when you see your salary slip.

Walking past a takeaway the other night I overheard the owner saying to a driver they’re going to stop all our benefits.
Lads on a site I visited were on about something is going to happen soon and staying away from things like Blackpool illuminations because of it.
The Muslim lad in a corner shop was on about “when” it kicks off soon.
The only ones who believe everything is fine are liberal relatives in barrack towns.

It reminds me of Yugoslavia before the troubles. Neighbour trained to hate neighbour.
