A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

More from the Times on Starmer and Mandy - Starmer knew on Tuesday about the emails that eventually led to Mandy's sacking i.e. before he defended him in the Commons on Wednesday. The article states that Starmer did not get to read the content of the emails until Wednesday evening.

Did McSweeney delay in sending them or is one of Starmer's team trying to bring him down on behalf of Blair?

I can't stand the shitweasel Clive Lewis MP, but it looks as if he and others are now about to break rank.

I can see Starmer telling anybody who disagrees with him to 'fuck off elsewhere' - yes, I really do think he'd do it as HE is right and EVERYBODY ELSE is wrong.

If the bleed-out means a minority Government, nobody is going to want to work with Starmer - the Lib Dems will demand his resignation before any coalition can be formed.

There's going to be more to come, with Conference in Liverpool a few weeks away, and it feels like we're now definitely beginning to see a cultural shift away from the Left. Farage is still riding high, the Labour vote is dying off and should Starmer fail to deliver anything but a show-stopping performance in Liverpool then he will be done - VONC in him and Reeves will come IF Labour believe that is their only hope of staying in Government. Should the Budget be voted down and not pass, then the hi-fives on here can begin as we'll then be five/six weeks away from a new PM and hopefully a new start.

@JosephStalin The one about arresting rape victims is apt, as I would not put it past Labour to legalise rape at some point.

Every den of rats has its day, and this one was coming for a long time. Eventually people develop resistance to all the infections they spread, after all.

More to Made in Wales than Eddie but this backstabbing is so routine that even modern Spitting Image parodied it. Sure, they were talking about the Tories rather than Labour, but this is so routine for our political parties when they are in power and realise that come next election they will not be that by now that it's a borderline joke.

When the death throes begin every single one of them start buying their knives in one another's back with a smile on their face and no hint of shame.

That said since Labour are not even halfway into their term and things are already at this stage is hilarious.

On an entirely unrelated note to anything in the thread, I've just found out the Manchester museum of science and industry has permanently closed its air hall. I was hoping it would be open again soon, as I've good memories of visiting it in the past. Manchester city council owns the building and has taken it back, in order to redevelop it. All the exhibits have been redistributed around the country. It's probably going to be turned into social housing, or something equally retarded.

Science is islamophobic, don't you know CHUD???

Newtown, Mid Wales, hit with drone ban tomorrow as pro-migrant lefty twonk rally goes ahead:

Well this is interesting. There are actually two marches in Newtown on Saturday, one pro one anti, on opposite sides of town. Given that there are about 20 'local' police to that area, if shit kicks off there is no way they will be able to control it.

I have to figure that this ban is to prevent anyone filming the police shitting the bed if it goes south.

Glue a drone to a pogo stick. Technically it’s bouncing not flying, it just takes 20 min per bounce.

Doesn't she work in biochem? Maybe she'll whip up a vaarus that only infects glowies and journalists.

Looks like she got into a gender wars shit flinging contest in the Charlie Kirk thread. The list null posted is all the a&n and BP people you'd suspect of taking part in gendershit "debates", hhh (which is a surprise, but a welcome one) and otterly. I hope she doesn't decide to cut her losses afterwards. Bad enough when flid disappeared.
Am very surprised to learn of the ban. Otterly has always seemed like one of the voices of reason here. She must have found something she considered outrageous.

It's quite clearly over at this point for Heir Starmer. As I said last week, there are too many moving parts in play for him to quash. Blair is clearly working now as he is trying to pass Digital ID, evil cunt. The economy and reform, but with no faction that likes him.

Another major external factor is the external being America and Europe. Trump is about to go really hard on the Palestine, Gaza stuff; they were not happy with Mahmood being appointed to the Home Office. That and Madleson alleviated a lot of their dislike of the Chagous deal, meaning they can object to it. The Eurozone is fucked, and with the leaders they cannot pal up and Ursuala is gone soon.

He is an island, in a sea of people that want him gone. He is not going to last till November.

It appears Stand up to Racism is funding people to attend the Freedom rally in order be a nuisance

Things might kick off today

Supposedly theres work being done on the train lines tomorrow so its harder for people to get into london.
Same day that half a dozen premier league teams are in London for the first match back after the international break.
It's going to be a shitshow.
I think I've discovered a new form of "shrinkflation" : teabag manufacturers have been making the perforations between pairs of teabags shitter, so they never tear cleanly down the middle. Instead one teabag tears and spills loose tea all over the FUCKING kitchen floor.
I swapped to loose-leaf a few months back and haven't looked back. Grab a decent kettle/tea-pot with easy-to-clean removable filter and off you go. There are a variety of flavours to try as well.
Don't clean the teapot though as that adds flavour to the tea.
It's quite clearly over at this point for Heir Starmer.
It's not and Starmer isn't leaving. Look at the political landscape over the last 5 years and it's clear their is but one goal; deconstruction of Britain. Through managed decline and throng of PMs wearing different coloured ties, all but one have been given the orders of what to destroy.

  • Johnson followed the COVID orders
  • Sunak was brought in to manage the decline of the financial system.
  • Starmer is here to manage the decline of the legal system.
  • IF Farage sees power, he will be used to manage the decline of the borders, possibly by rejoining the EU.
People need to accept the fact that Britain will not get better for a generation, we are on a steep decline in quality in almost all walks of life and until Starmer has outlived his orders, he is going nowhere, public opinion be damned.
