A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

We install a comically large x ray machine in the channel tunnel, once someone goes in the all show their passport/declare how many people are on board and any extra person caught in said x-ray machine is shot.

I think yours and @Symbol of the Chud 's ideas are excellent, but the taxpayer will never fund that. Think of the staffing and construction costs!

A much cheaper alternative would be to turn the Channel tunnel into a single long hallway. You open the attraction to the public and pay them their day's wages, travel and expenses to come down and make up the ten thousand people daily who will stand on either side of the long hallway. And we'd let migrants enter and every single person we're paying will scream "NIGGER!" at the top of their voices right in their faces. We'd hire security too, so people wouldn't be hurt.

If they can get to the end without chimping out or crying, they can stay. It'd be like some kind of jury duty or even a fun family attraction for the kids. Brean in Dover.

The frontier officially closed in 1890 after about 100 years of us being a country, but this spirit definitely predates the constitution. In fact, given that the people who came over earliest such as on the Mayflower had exactly this attitude, 200 years is still an underestimate.

And now, it comes out that she accepted £1,100 worth of free tickets to Brighton Pride and then registered them the day before the flat story broke, clearly getting a tip off about the story.

I just do not get how they think fiddling expenses won’t get caught.
I have to account for if one of my team buys someone a coffee. I have to sit through hours of training and wait to be refunded if o buy a sandwich on a work enforced business trip
I hope the media have their pens sharpened.
 
If one of us didn’t pay £40K in Stamp Duty we’d be in front of a judge and HMRC would be trying to have us bankrupt and in jail.

Because it's SOP for every single one of them, and they usually only get "caught" when they displease someone higher on the totem pole who tips the wink to the press that it's open season. It's currently open season on Starmer's entire government, so her doing it now was particularly stupid, but they just can't help themselves as it's so ingrained as they're encouraged to do it from the moment they take their seat so the whips have something to hold over them.

If someone else had also sold their share of a house to their potato kid, using part of the potato kids trust just before he turned adult potato, after which it would have been the potato kids money that they couldn’t touch. They would have also would have been burned at the stake for stealing a potato’s cash. Did she ever disclosed she had sued the NHS either? Seems a bit rich her going on at Richard Branson for suing the NHS too. I don’t see how they can argue this is an oopsie. This is well thought out and planned.

So the Angela Rayner story is even worse than that, and I will explain. So for a few months now, the alternative media like GBNews and Talk have been legitimately asking, "How has Rayner acquired all this money?"

Years ago, Rayner gave birth to a child with cerebral palsy to whose health we don't know the limits of. This was in court with the NHS for 11 years, all we know is "she used some of that money from a trust fund set up for her son Charlie." The sum used was £162,500. It is contentious because it was money set up by the NHS for her son's care. She already had a home at this point, which she owned, and at this point of payout, she was in politics. Now the iffy thing is that money comes from the public purse, so essentially a politician used funds granted from the public coffers for her disabled child's care. If Boris did this, they would be screaming blue murder.

She used money from the public to buy a second home and then sold off her share for a third home, whilst in ownership of the same home, but it is in her son's name.

This is the deputy PM and minister of fucking housing. These people are retarded because this is just outright fraud. If Starmer keeps her on, he is just doing what Boris did, and he harped on about his corrupt cabinet for ages.

She has to go.

I have a suspicion that her management said to her how bad this looked and forced her to lift her own court order. The state of her here using her potato to praise the NHS during COVID as a “NHS miracle potato” when she knowingly had sued the NHS and put an injunction on that information.

To long didn’t watch: she has said kid at 23 weeks after her water broke suddenly. Claims he was in intensive care for 6 months and luckily the NHS saved him it’s a miracle. I’m surprised she got a payout for this. 23 weeks is so early it is lucky he even lived never mind disability. No wonder the courts battled this for 11 years. She likely had top dollar lawyers and others wouldn’t have been so lucky to get this payout. She possibly got paid out millions from this. Wondering if someone is going to leak the figure of the payout next.
