A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Labour's only chance of staying in power, IMO, is potting Reeves within the next eight weeks and promoting Jones to be Chancellor.

If Jones can somehow make this budget bearable, and if he can axe some of our debt and get a decent deal with the IMF which pushes the cost of living and taxes down, then he will have spared a lot of blushes. As it is, I think they know they are sunk and too stubborn, bloody-minded, pompous and arrogant to admit their faults, therefore I'm going to enjoy their demise and the death of the party.

In the PMQs they both looked empty, probably got a bollocking right before hand. Capaldi style. No one wants to deal with the mess they've made.
Anyhow, Farage is now "badmouthing" to Trump in the US conference today, Musk is deffo jelly </3.
 
Starmer sounded terrified when he made that statement about Farage. I have noticed now that when he is nervous because he shouts, but in his eyes, you can see panic.

No chance of that IMO, if there was a chance of Nigel bailing then Tice would take over and Jenrick, Cates, Trott and other Right-Wing Tories joining to bolster Reform UK and nuke Kemi from orbit.

Nigel has to see this through and though I get that you and others aren't fans of him, he's the only chance which the UK has. Paul Golding isn't an option, Laurence Fox and David Kurten aren't either.

There's more chance IMO that Reform UK will do well at grass roots - the Caerphilly Senedd by-election will be a tester and one which I believe Reform UK can be successful at achieving as the only other option to voters there is Plaid (council-wise in the area they're not too bad, Labour in Caerphilly are absolutely bloody awful). Reform winning their first seat in Wales is 80% likely, Plaid will need the Lib Dems and Greens to either step aside or not split the vote to have any chance.
 
Farage speech was rather crap to the yanks. Others around him are making great arguments but Farage just didn't get over. He focused on the comedian and Lucy who got arrested and jailed.

The discord is so weird because they're talking past each other. The anti-censorship people are talking about the EU and British laws impacting American companies. The pro-side are doing nothing but saying "Trump keeps suing people and winning. This is censorship!". They're trying to hijack the discussion to be about Trump and how evil he is. Nothing to do with Europe at all.

I believe that foreign residents in many EU countries have to have to obtain a residency card, and the number on that also becomes their driving licence number

Just remember, it's only censorship when it goes against the prevailing view.

Nigel has to watch his tongue because he is going to get flack if he goes 'too far' - sadly, that is the nature of the beast with the permanently offended gimps. Overall, I was impressed, but yes I think he could have hit home a few points better.

At least we have a proper politician and an actual adult fighting for the UK.

@Amin Yasister Brianna's Mother is a total helicopter parent who is responsible for her death - as a male child, Brianna was unremarkable and ordinary (like every other kid) but she wanted her 'special baby' to get all the attention and accolades.

This is noticeable in many family scenarios where Dad is either told he's not wanted or banned from seeing his kids. Soft-brained male children being made to think they'll be something if they obey Trooner loving Mum is a thing and it is evil.
 
US politicians are calling Nige the future Prime minister. And then Farage says if the US starts punishing people who censor Americans the entire Labour party would be banned from US soil.

Starmer has got to be fuming when the republicans in the US all side with Farage and make jokes out of the Democrats trying to paint him as a right wing Putin lover. It's quite funny. Farage is laying down the ground work for a US/UK alliance. Including talk of America extending the first amendment to all US allies and using trade and deals to punish them if they don't keep it. Free speech is a western value and it must be enshrined across Europe and all US allies.

He doesn't want to turn up and get 5 armed cops at the airport, which is understandable. He's better in a conversation than he is giving a speech.
 
Raskins already showed he had a bias towards Farage. His speech was pretty limp but he got his point across. They really are ignoring the discussion of Europe, muh ammendment. Farage did charisma check Mr Issa, but wow most of the Americans are blaming Trump at every opportunity.

Mr Johnson (GA) is trying to shit talk Farage and Farage is going full heckler now. "Are you fringe, you're very fringe aren't you?" "Yes I'm very fringe, I've always been very fringe". This is actually funny. You have a guy who's desperate to tear down Farage and Trump and Farage eating him alive. He's making people laugh at him.

He wants to say Elon Musk is going to pay for Reform to get into government. He wants tech bro money apparently. Farage couldn't get a word in so asked if he could have a cup of coffee while he's ranted at.
 
Our choice is between kier starmer and Nigel farage for PM?
We truly live in the worst timeline.
