A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

They know it will backfire. What they think is that when it does it's a big button labelled "Respond How We Like" that they can press and dispense with any restrictions. Same as "terrorism" was or "think of the children" is. It does not occur to them that one day they may press the button and nothing will happen.
If they pushed the button today it would fail and blow up in their faces. There's nothing but hatred and disgust for Labour and especially Starmer. They have no power and if they try to flex it they will end up smashed by Big Baz.

Some of you used to toast the King o'er the water - but I don't think even that King wants any of this now.

Was out this morning but caught some highlights of the VJ event at the National Memorial Garden in Alrewas, Staffordshire.

Very telling that Starmer and Nandy looked bored out of their skulls, uninterested and didn't want to be there.

King Charles III, by contrast, engaged with the crowd around him and seemed in good spirits despite the fact that he is still seriously ill.

Is he or is he not suicidal? I want to know for sure once the inevitable happens.
He'd never think of ending himself. The jug eared prick has been raised from birth to see being King as his destiny, has been waiting for literal decades for his mum to die. Now he's got power he's never going to give it up of his own volition.

Good to know.

So "9 shots to the back of the head while hunting" it is.

If the cancer is as bad as believed (turbo cancer) then whether or not he wants to give it up is practically irrelevant.

I saw him in South Wales earlier this decade and, compared to now, he was much more alive and animated back then - I think he knows he hasn't got much longer to go, hence William is being prepped ahead of the inevitable big day when he becomes King William V.

Speaking of things that kick off riots, Ricky Jones just got found not guilty
I'm not even going to pretend not to be angry.

A Labour councillor who called for far-right protesters' throats to be cut at an anti-racism rally has been found not guilty of encouraging violent disorder.
Ricky Jones, 58, has been on trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court after he called demonstrators "disgusting Nazi fascists" and said "we need to get rid of them all" while addressing a crowd in Walthamstow on 7 August last year.
Mr Jones told police his remarks, captured on video, were "ill-advised" and not intended to incite or encourage violence.
The Dartford councillor, who has since been suspended by the Labour Party, had denied the charge.
A video showing Mr Jones addressing crowds in Walthamstow last year went viral on social media after the protest, which had been organised in response to plans for a far-right march outside Waltham Forest Immigration Bureau.
He also drew his finger across his throat as he spoke to the crowd.
Mr Jones was arrested the day after making the comments and told the court he felt it was his "duty" to attend counter-protests.

Jurors deliberated for just over half an hour before finding him not guilty on Friday.
At the time of the incident, Mr Jones was employed as a full-time official for the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA) union.
He has been a borough councillor since 2019 but was suspended by the Labour Party on 8 August last year.
Prosecutor Ben Holt previously told the court Mr Jones used "inflammatory, rabble-rousing language in the throng of a crowd described as a tinderbox".
He told jurors Mr Jones's speech was amplified through a microphone and speakers and took place "in a setting where violence could readily have been anticipated".
Giving evidence in his trial, Mr Jones said his comment did not refer to far-right protesters involved in the riots at the time, but to those who had reportedly left National Front stickers on a train with razor blades hidden behind them.
Before he made the comment, jurors were shown video where he said to crowds: "You've got women and children using these trains during the summer holidays.
"They don't [care] who they hurt."
He told the court he was "appalled" by political violence, adding: "I've always believed the best way to make people realise who you are and what you are is to do it peacefully."
MP James Cleverly, the shadow secretary for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, said on social media platform X that the verdict was "unacceptable".
"Perverse decisions like this are adding to the anger that people feel and amplifying the belief that there isn't a dispassionate criminal justice system," he said.

Ricky Jones has arguably been sentenced to a fate worse than Prison - he will forever be looking over his shoulders, worried about knocks on the door at night, being followed etc.

He should be very worried and I would not be surprised if he is 'offed' - I do not condone violence, but if it happens I understand why.

A competent control regime would throw Jones to the dogs to appease the critics, to act as a sort of pressure release valve. But an incompetent regime whose grip on the country is flowing through their fingers like sand can only dig in further and further because they can do nothing but defend every misstep with bullheaded stubbornness, lest the whole thing come apart at the seams.
Some of you used to toast the King o'er the water - but I don't think even that King wants any of this now.
The Jacobites today are a far-cry from the Bonnie Prince. The current Jacobite successor is a literal German faggot.

I agree. He was perfect for it and they wasted the opportunity.

I mean, it's just 2 performers who absolutely hate eachother miraculously coming together for a nostalgia-bait tribute to a country that no longer exists. Completely natural.

The chad Morrissey revealed to be the true voice of Manchester:

"There's a country, you don't live there
But one day you would like to,
And if you show them what you're made of,
Oh, then you might do
"

Has this become more or less relevant since 1992?

There's always some crazy person out there somewhere, but I don't think that's likely.

My feeling is that the state security apparatus and the Government/Establishment in general is terrified that even giving one inch would essentially open the floodgates one way or another. They are so illegitimate in the eyes of basically everyone except slavish drones and those within the Civil Service and the Establishment that any kind of concession or course correction would just drag them down even more. They are absolutely terrified of losing power. In some ways it's the old paradox of Empire, where the tighter you grip the more slips from your fingers, but the fist can never unclench or it'll all pour out anyway.

What a terrible thought. He isn't some violent savage responsible for his own actions calling for his political enemies' throats to be slit. He's just slow in the mind.

“When I had time to view the footage after the demonstration, I was shocked at what I had actually said,” he told jurors.

The jury also heard a medical report by experts from the prosecution and defence agreed that Jones “suffers from a number of neurodivergent challenges” – including “impaired verbal comprehension potentially leading to misunderstanding the impact of his words” and “slower cognitive processing meaning he may not have evaluated the situation in real time”.

Shame on you all for picking on this poor unironically retarded Labour councillor. We can only hope he gets the help he needs at a secure hospital.

In all seriousness, I struggle to see how this is not two-tier justice, enabled both by political will and an anaemic court system which presumes you guilty unless or until you throw money at the problem to make it go away. If any of us made those statements, even in the heat of the moment, we would be facing jail time. To be clear, I have no reason to believe the trial was compromised or substantially unfair except in so far as the British judicial system itself is. I'm just tired and disgusted by a political class which thinks itself above ordinary people.

After visiting a site today I noticed a rare piece of British culture the yanks should know about.

Poets day,
Piss off early, tomorrow’s Saturday.
The shop floor was empty by 1:30pm.

Edit, and if anyone wants to make a quick buck stick “it’s okay officer, I identify as Ricky Jones” on a T-shirt.

Exactly that, and now they have multiple groups/political parties gunning for them.

Before it was just Farage and the Far Right, now it's Palestine Action, Corbyn and the Kneecap fans.

There is, apparently, a video doing the rounds on the socials of Lefties screaming 'f**k the BBC' during Kneecap's gig at the Green Man Festival.

Let that sink in - the militant Left now hate the BBC and Government even more than the Right Wing do.
