A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Okay, so can someone give me a summary of the Letby shit?

Whenever I try to look up why people are saying she didn't do it, I get boomer YouTube videos and lots of articles by Peter Hitchens.

How many children is she supposed to have murdered, what evidence are they prosecuting her under and why do people think she's innocent?

Innocence or not aside, my own experience of working in the NHS taught me (to the extent I got out, not just of the NHS,but my field of original study altogether. I simply could not stand what I saw going on) that within the NHS there is such a rampant, entrenched mentality of bullying and being willing to do literally anything to cover up wrong - doing that, I would not be shocked if she was a patsy for something extremely sinister.
If you'd like to take a seat, the nurse will see you as soon as she can.

I think that the deliberate misleading of the Chagos deal is going to be the smoking gun. The Blair Institute must be cackling as they want their puppet, Angela in.
I am not convinced that Angela is the choice.

I think she is too think and only served her purpose to make the Starmer look slightly less robotic, when he goes I think she will end up as a backbencher again

I hope so. It's impossible to trust anyone with no real life experience or academic qualifications, who only got to where they are by getting a sweet union job and sucking dick til they reach their goals. And that is precisely what she is.

God even Reeves would be preferable, and that's not something I thought I'd ever come out with.

it's especially galling that these people are paid by us, the tax payers. To fuck up, cover up, lie, and deflect blame elsewhere. If I had a tenner for every time I'd seen or read about something atrocious cock up then read the words "lessons have been learned" then I could retire already. If lessons have been learned why do the same mistakes keep on and on being made?
It's because institutions are the masters of deflecting blame and frankly gaslighting us about what they're actually doing. When they say "lessons have been learned" it's usually doublespeak for we reprimanded one or two people and did not fix the root cause of why this happened in the first place. This is true for large corporations as well as public bodies. To fix the core issue of why something happened would take a lot of structural upheaval and firings. This is something that the institution itself is against, as the constituent parts — the employees and directors — are incentivised to protect their jobs and are therefore always going to act in their own interest, as turkeys don't vote for Christmas. A good example would be the Jimmy Saville scandal. Everyone in the BBC knew of the allegations and choose to be silent on the matter to protect their own self-interest. Even after it came to light, no real structural change occurred and all the public was given was a few press conferences and promises. People often attribute such things to shadowy elites with insidious agendas, but in my eyes it's much more likely that it's a mix of self-preservation, fear of taking risks / scandals, a lack of political will to crack down on institutional misconduct, and incompetence.

I think the difficulty with the Lucy Letby matters is the sheer complexity of how the murders allegedly occurred and a strong reliance of expert evidence. This makes the case inherently inaccessible to the average person as this isn't a run-of-the-mill murder case, but an allegation of long term deliberate malpractice leading to death of infants. Expert opinion is divided on the case, as some have alleged that there isn't sufficient evidence that Letby was reponsible for the death of the infants, as NHS standards were below par, potentially causing the death of the infants. Others argue that her actions were the cause because she was present for a number of the deaths and the deaths of the babies pointed to deliberate malpractice. In all honesty, its somewhat impossible to know, as without sufficient medical knowledge it's difficult to parse through the basics of the case, and even if you have that knowledge there's a lot of gaps in what happened, leading to disagreement. I personally refuse to take a stand on the matter as I am simply completely unqualified to comment on the evidence.

If you want to know more, Black Belt Barrister made some good videos on it.

This problem is endemic within British public institutions, it seems to be a core part of their operations. This is observable within the prison system, police, NHS, civil service, and probably any of the other trillion of government departments. When you're basically guaranteed a job for life with no real productivity incentive things always tend to get skewed towards internal politics. This often leads to promoting the incompetent, higher-ups creating cults of personality, and a culture of blame shifting or black-holing problems. No one wants to be held responsible for things that happen and as a result things gets covered up if it can be without scandal. Further, employees — civil servants subject to the Civil Service Code — cannot go to the media or other third parties, meaning their only recourse is litigation, which is effectively career suicide and costly. In other words, many such cases.
This isn't just public institutions, it's become the default state of our entire country. Never take responsibility, never fix the problem. Keep kicking it down the road until you're caught and then take the golden parachute.

Middle management Britain cannot be held responsible for anything. It's exactly what middle management does in every industry and now it's terminally embedded in our culture. You can't wipe your arse or get a fresh biro without 3 wine aunts signing off on the resources being used, but Nurses murdering babies is fine unless The Sun get hold of it or the BBC do a 4 part docudrama.

I think herein lies the problem. Facebook boomers trying to figure out what expert evidence means. That video is interesting and informative, thanks.

It'd be nice if the Letby case became a wider discussion about why maternity care in the UK actually ends up costing us £27 billion when we only spend half that on it, thanks to liability issues with maimed patients, dead children and malpractice.

Anyone who says the NHS is "the envy of the world" at this point should be held accountable for avoidable deaths in the NHS and if applicable, struck off the register. A nurse or doctor who doesn't see how awful the NHS is has no place caring for peoples' health.

I do wonder how much language barriers have to do with fatalities, too.

"Quickly, get me some epinephrine!"
"*click click* yes sar here is morphine"

I've had some proper mush mouth doctors that I can't understand.

Stephen Yaxley Lennon, better known as Tommy Robinson or "tommeh", a football hooligan, former prisoner, and political dissident extraordinaire has done a two and half hour interview with a large Youtube channel Triggernometry, where he goes over his history and how he began to be involved in politics and fighting against Islamic extremism.

Regardless of your opinion of Tommeh, it's an interesting watch.

He saw a snippet from the interview a little while ago. I'll give it a full watch but I think is the video where he outright states he doesn't like the UK becoming minority white but shuns/remains averse to any ethnat rhetoric/positioning.

Like with my opposition to Civic Nationalism, even if you don't agree with full-on nationalism, by taking a half-measure approach to your rhetoric, you're already conceding some ground to the opposition. Start radical, get negotiated down to moderate; if you begin arguing from a moderate position you're allowing yourself to get negotiated into conceding somewhere.

And there we have it. My son finally asked me why Vida the Vet has two dads. Not sure how hard to go on this one, in the moment I just said "because this show is full of woke nonsense" and that seemed to satisfy him. But thanks for making me have that conversation CBeebies, just what I need on a Monday morning.
I've been there. Can't remember which cartoon it was but yeah, fags. My explanation was that some people has damaged brains and it makes them do odd things like a man want a husband, a woman want a wife. I said how can it be right if you need a man and a woman to have a baby (although he has no idea how that happens anyway at the moment). I did have to tell him to tone down the based though when he saw gays in another cartoon and told me "that's not right". Told him he's right, but we don't need to go around telling these people they are wrong if they are keeping to themselves.

I'm sure this will come up again as the school cranks up the indoctrination, but I feel I've given him a good start to not just accept it at least.

Stumbled onto a crime scene the other day, man stabbed and perp ran off. Broad daylight! I know the meme about the UK but Jesus Christ, its a lot different when you're there to witness it. The atmosphere is unbelievably tense, can't pop by the local without feeling on edge.
It's not even living at this point, just survival.

Stay safe dude. Remember that the environment around you is filled with things you can use in self defense.

Haha, "tone down the based", I'll have to remember that.

You've got to watch it with kids. I've already had miladdo telling people with receding hair lines "shave it off mate!", copying me after repeatedly making this joke at people on TV. Also he will just point at fat people in public and loudly say "he/she's fat!" (I always make a big show of chastising him for this, but really I think it's hilarious).

It's all fun and games now, but he might get punched when he's a bit older.

Fucking hell, sorry to hear that mate. Whole country is going to the dogs.

Saw a thing on BBC that the mother of stabbed child Harvey Wilgoose is calling for the killer to be named. What do we think the odds are that the judge will grant that?

It would just be confirming what we all know anyway. Still haven't seen any photos of the killers family at court on any of these articles

Stop talking about your family members. Being able to put your kid in an age range is bad Opsec. I have 0 and 10 children depending on the post and they range from born yesterday to 5000 year old dragons in disguise as human children.

Careful what you teach your kids to do. Nanny state might try to take your kids away if you make them too based in public. Kids have no filter and you have to be careful.

Come on, how many people in the world have kids. Saying you have one isn't going to get you doxxed unless you're in another thread saying your street address etc. I live in the UK and I have a son, find me.

On your second point, as I made clear to my wife when this discussion came up, I've been forced into saying these things to my kid by the ones forcing adult relationship decisions on to people far too young to understand. We have gender confused children because too many parents are happy to let Netflix do the child rearing. It is my family values that I will not leave mine to a lifetime of misery because their mind has been skewed by nonsense.

I will not stop being a parent because of the threat of nanny state involvement, that's how they do it, frighten you into thinking if you deviate from the programming or stop your spawn consuming it you will be split up. We need to stand firm, not pussy out. There are many more of us than there are police, prison spaces and foster homes.

Being married and having a kid between 4-8 is a narrow band. Doesn't hurt to be careful.

There are more of us than there are them but you don't want your kid ending up in foster care for posting here. Raising your kids right means making them able to avoid getting in trouble in school for telling the truth while also knowing the truth.

I guess it depends on opsec as you say. I'm very offline, there are no hateful posts to be found (apart from KF), no records of my views on anything, I don't use social media either. I've seen plenty of other faggots be doxxed by being dumb and online though.

About foster care, has there been any recorded instances of kids being taken away because their parents have traditional views? I'm genuinely interested, I haven't heard of it. I'm unconvinced because by that rule most religious families, white black or mud, will be theoretically getting their kids taken off them. I just can't see it happening.

To make it clear I'm not telling my son to go to school and call for total faggot death etc, if I'm ever called in for that he will be severely punished because it's not what you do if you want to be part of functioning society and have a job etc. My policy in life has always been you can do what you want as an adult, it's none of my business unless you make it my business. Have your parades, get STIs, whatever. But I will not stand for external influencers such as school and TV on something as basic as love between man and woman. You have a cock or a fanny, it only works one way and you need to accept what you have. Anything other than that is mental illness, I will not allow that to be pushed onto my son.
