A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

do wonder what would happen if the court told him to stick his head in an oven.....he'd probably ask what temperature.
Brb changing my name to ‘Supreme Court’ and googling lethal oven temperatures …

I remember getting up obscenely early on Saturday mornings and watching something called "Trans-World Sports" (it was the 90s, so this meant something different back then) while waiting for cartoons to start.

Anyway the little bugger has been up since 6:20am, so I'm not convinced this counts as "first thing" any more.
Transworld sports still airs on some sky sports channel. I can't remember which.
So the International Court of Justice said.......that's all Starmer cares about. He doesn't give a shit about what is good for Britain, nor is he prepared to defend our interests. A paper court with no real powers said, so he feels compelled to bow to their judgement. The man is a traitor and a pussy.
All these deals are ideological not just court instructed. Labour's brain washing includes calling the British empire a colonial power and deconstructing it is the right thing to do. Any land we own outside of this island is considered stolen land from the natives and any deal made to return it is good because it decolonizes it.

I agree with you on Starmer's personality but he's acting within the ideological bubble more than he's acting within the courts bubble. This is Labour's chance to "Give America back to the native Americans" the left have been screaming about since Trump first won. The UK has a lot of random bits of territory and they can give it all to random people living there following the same ideology.

I just hate Carl so much, So very much. He is such a short, fat and gay loser. Carl is the perfect example of a faggot who would rather lose with principles than win at all cost. He would sit smuckling on the ruins of his civilization as long as he got to preen about how he never crossed a line and the fight was honorably fought.
People like Carl have never and will never be a solution to anything, ever.

I'm in an uber on my way to Manchester airport. The Peak district and its accompanying sheep are great scenery for my morning before I have to take a miserable eight hour flight over the Atlantic
The Peak District is a beautiful place and if you ever have a chance to go, do it. Dunno if you’re into outdoory stuff but the hiking and climbing is great.

There’s lots of ruins and castles up norf in and around Northumberland due to the fact it used to be part of Scotland. Hadrian’s wall is the old border and the Scots and English used to fight like cats and dogs. Lots and lots to see if that kinda thing floats your boat.

I think he's been compromised.

Certainly since he caved in and apologised to bitch knickers Jess Phillips, there's been something of an about-turn with him.

A shame because the old Sargon would have called the new Sargon a 'sell out.'

When you see the build quality in the South of the US, it's unreal because a lot of builds have unique aesthetics. Some look very 70s inspired or modern, others look plantation or ranch. There is a diverse range of homes for all around the same price. When we went house hunting, the quality was overall good, and the developers were very transparent with questions regarding materials used.

Now I know us Yank folk aren't taken kindly to around here, but I figured I'd pop in. A lot of those really nice plantation homes you see with the big white columns are pushing 150 years old or better in some areas. Even though they've had some modernization, the construction itself was solidly built out of quality materials by hands that had intentions of making it last. Homes by and large aren't built with the same level of craftsmanship despite having all the technology available to do so. A lot of homes get slapped together by a crew of illegals in weeks and have issues right out the gate. Bad wiring, shit fitment, half-driven nails, you know, the hallmark of the "hard-working immigrant". Housing prices have only gone up and we're at a point where you're spending close to half a million dollars to live in a fancy mud/compressed wood chip hut that isn't a good piece out from civilization. That's given the assumption you don't lose the bidding war against the investment firms or people buying homes on "first-generation ownership" incentives using your own tax dollars. Everywhere that used to have somewhat affordable land and housing has been bought up and invaded by people from big cities who got priced out. As an added bonus, they bring their shitty voting practices to repeat the same thing that got them driven out of their original home.

All that said, if you're ever in the southeastern U.S. and want to see some history, I'd recommend Savannah, GA. It's one of the oldest cities in the south. It was formed in 1733 and was Georgia's first colonial and state capital. Downtown historic Savannah feels like stepping in to a time machine. The old homes are almost as lovely as the weeping willows.

So about the Chagos Islands thing, if we do get a leader with an actual fucking spine (unlikely, I know) can we just go "haha, nah we'll be taking these islands back, fuck you"?
Who's going to fucking go to bat for a shithole like Mauritius? Over land that WE own? It's a tiny fucking shithole with a GDP lower than the revenue of some companies.

The UN may publish a few more stern letters, you know. The ICJ may get uppity and try and slap you Brits with some (toothless) penalties. The usual, I guess.

Trump has intimated that, if we don't go back on the Chagos deal, it's going to end with egg on Starmer's face. The lesser spotted Alex Davies-Jones has lied to us about this (no surprises as she's a literal dumb blonde who has less talent than a turd curled out by Patel Pajeet).

They're trying to find, and do for assault, the men who hauled the mentally ill nigger off a train in London.

People were overwhelmingly supportive of that. I don't think Batty Boy Kier realises going after them will absolutely be the touch paper lit the country is waiting for.

You just know that policing is fucked beyond belief when the police are looking for the men who prevented women and children from having to stare at dirty nigger penis on a train ride.

The Ricky Jones trial has begun:
They're going with his stupid razor blades claim, the source of which was he had been sent images. No evidence besides that I suspect.
A Labour councillor had been "rabble rousing" a crowd which could have turned violent when he called for far-right protesters to have their throats cut, a court has heard.

Ricky Jones, 57, described far right protesters as "disgusting Nazi fascists" at a demonstration in Walthamstow on 7 August last year, according to a video of the event shown to jurors.

At the start of his trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court, Mr Jones was also shown telling the anti-racism protest "we need to get rid of them all".

The Dartford councillor, who denies encouraging violent disorder, had been advised not to attend the event, which was attended by "tens of thousands" of people, the court heard.
Opening the case for the prosecution, Ben Holt said Mr Jones had received a flyer warning of a planned protest outside the immigration centre by activist Tommy Robinson, and his supporters.

Messages on Mr Jones' phone showed he was invited to attend a counter-protest organised by Stand Up to Racism.

Mr Holt told the court that Labour representatives had received communication advising them against joining public protests and counter protests, but Mr Jones elected to go anyway.

He said: "Rumour had spread there might be a protest outside an immigration centre of Hoe Street during this event.

"Mr Jones made a speech that was amplified through a public address system to the crowd.

"During this speech Mr Jones referred to the other side, if you like, as disgusting Nazi fascists, and he said that their throats needed to be slit and as he said that he drew his finger along his throat.

"This is, the prosecution say, in a setting where violence could readily have been anticipated."

Mr Holt said Mr Jones was "rabble rousing" a crowd which has been described as "tens of thousands" in size.

He said the video clip "went viral and came to the attention of the police and others and led to Mr Jones being arrested on the following day".

Mr Jones was also suspended by the Labour Party.

Supt Jack May-Robinson told the court that he had "real concerns that there would be disorder in Walthamstow".

H said from his recollection nobody from the far-right group showed up, but there was a "tinderbox" atmosphere.
Mr Holt told the court at the time of the unity rally violent protests had already taken place in the UK, in response to the murder of three children in Southport.

He said: "There were violent confrontations in Southport itself and those confrontations spread across the country including to London.

"The focal point of some of these issues were mosques and immigration centres."

There were "fears that disorder or trouble could break out at any moment", he added.
Mr Holt claimed that the councillor, particularly given his position at the time, was fully aware of the national climate at the time.

He said: "In August last year Mr Jones was a Labour councillor for Dartford and as a result, received, authored and at the very least co-signed documents about the state of flux the country was in at the time."

The court was also told Mr Jones had been sent images of stickers on trains which advertised the far right "National Front". Those stickers had razor blades concealed inside them.

This was said to have "upset" the councillor, Mr Holt said.

If Jones has been chucked by Labour, they won't care if he does get a year for making threats.

They've discarded him, therefore there might not be any preferential treatment for him.

Even if he's previously of good character, there's no guarantee that he won't escape custody and a stay behind bars - he's a liability and therefore why should Labour care?
