A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I can’t help but feel we are being led on all sides to a Serbian story situation of neighbour killing neighbour.

It’s the raf attack from Palestine action that sealed it for me.

In a previous life I was in an urbex community. Some members once tried to get into an empty army base. (00’s)
Ground vibration sensors scuppered that one.

The idea of protestors getting far enough to sabotage fighter jets without approval is ludicrous.

My conclusion. Is step back and bunker down.
I think you may be sadly right.

No one alive today properly remembers what it was like before the nhs,
I read this brilliant article today (Archive) where there's a really sobering statistic in there that accurately describes the state of the NHS in 2025.

The NHS has spent £18bn on maternity services since 2019. The NHS's liability bill for maternity services since 2019 has been £27.5bn. Not only are these services being offered out for free, but the amount of dead children, maimed mothers and general malpractice (in this part of the NHS alone) produces a liability bill that is almost double what we're paying to deliver the "healthcare" itself.
Is it that the concept of Britain and news are negative and the whole two negatives make a positive?
Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create femboy fart huffers. Always nice stuff in with the rough. Sheffield was gopping. Horrible traffic, fucked-up weird roads that you just know was a contract scam and took years to finish, walking bin bags that didn't speak a word of English,, stench of weed everywhere, £20 to park for 4 hours, hipsters everywhere.

Suppose it makes sense since Sheffield is so close to Rotherham.

The quality isn't even good anyway. It's one of those things that because everyone relies on the nhs no one realises how shit it is because they have nothing to compare to.

I needed a bone operation as a kid, said that if they didn't fix it now then puberty would fuck it over even worse, was told by the nhs yea well it's a several year long waiting time because it wasn't 'urgent' despite only having a short time before I went through puberty. Private hospital said it would be incredibly simple and actually not that expensive and got it done in a couple months. Same with old people, cousin looked after one of his grandparents, had nurses come to help but they'd show up once per day for a disabled woman who needed 24/7 attention to do anything. Completely broken leg and arms too old and frail to use crutches. Nurses did literally nothing for him and even with carer's pay he was still taking a financial hit. Nurses on their own would have been completely unable to look after her, they basically showed up, did nothing, fucked off, left all the actual work for my cousin. Just give me some option to say fuck off with stealing 90% of my money, I'll go private for everything, I'll homeschool if I ever need to, I'll take the bins down to the tip myself, I'll go all private healthcare, give me a shotgun and I will remove the number 9 from my phones permanently. But I can't. I still have to fucking pay taxes for something that is failing and I do not fucking want to use.

Yep sounds just like home. Surprised you managed to get through the city centre at all, did you not hit the wall of somali delivery drivers? Most of the retarded roads up here are just what people walked on in medieval times that they decided to slap some tarmac on and no one bothered to ask if it made sense and now they're there and lord fucking knows we've not got the money to fix any of that shit. Also tf do you mean hard times create strong men bro you met a pickle, they're only one step up in hardness from a tomato smh.

I just want to see somewhere in my country that resembles the way I think and feel that reflects our deep, expansive history. Is that so much to ask?

Also, yeah, lots of delivery drivers. I'm sure a good chunk were Somali since it was just a wall of very large foreheads and teeth driving past on bikes.

I went to Leeds not too long ago and saw almost exactly the same thing with the sheer amount of delivery drivers. Leeds is a student town and is where the Asians go, so the majority of restaurants are Korean, Japanese or Chinese. Lots of obscure little Chinese market shops too. Way cleaner there, I didn't feel like I had to hide my watch or keep my hand in my pocket over my wallet.

Is that so much to ask?
Yes.

No one in the cities are going to share your thoughts on this country, even if they did no one's going to say them with 50 abduls in earshot. All the city centers are going to shit, everywhere's closing because of the internet especially in the north. There's plenty of museums dotted around, I mean Leeds literally has the keeper of firearms and artillery and showcases some of the most iconic weapons from throughout history which genuinely might be my favourite museum in the entire country. Plenty of other little places like that. Loads of old stone brick buildings around too. If you want I can go jump back down the mines and dig out a couple lumps of coal to throw at you if you want the true norf experience?

Normally the somalis leave their bikes just totally covering the pavement, half the time you have to walk into the road just to get around them. Ride them on the pavements too because they have 0 respect for any of their surroundings surprise surprise. Most of the Asian restaurants aren't even Asian, most of them are just Chinese. Hard to tell but after a while you notice that all the Korean and Japanese places are just ran by Chinese. Gf says none of the jap ones taste proper Japanese either. Probably best to stick to Leeds though, fuck keeping your hands on your wallet when you have a pickle to hold hands with smh.

I think about this passage from That Hideous Strength a lot

"My dear, you've no conception what it was like. Great lorries and traction engines roaring past all the time, and a crane on a thing like a railway truck. Why, our own tradesmen couldn't get through it. The milk didn't arrive till eleven o'clock. The meat never arrived at all; they rang up in the afternoon to say their people hadn't been able to reach us by either road. We'd the greatest difficulty in getting into town ourselves. It took us half an hour from our house to the bridge. It was like a nightmare. Flares and noise everywhere and the road practically ruined and a sort of great tin camp already going up on the Common. And the people! Such horrid men. I didn't know we had workpeople like that in England. Oh, horrible, horrible!" Mrs. Dimble fanned herself with the hat she had just taken off.

"And what are you going to do?" asked Jane.

"Heaven knows!" said Mrs. Dimble. "For the moment we have shut up the house and Cecil has been at Rumbold the solicitors, to see if we can at least have it sealed and left alone until we've got our things out of it. Rumbold doesn't seem to know where he is. He keeps on saying the N.I.C.E. are in a very peculiar position legally. After that, I'm sure I don't know. As far as I can see there won't be any houses in Edgestow. There's no question of trying to live on the far side of the river any longer, even if they'd let us. What did you say? Oh, indescribable. All the poplars are going down. All those nice little cottages by the church are going down. I found poor Ivy--that's your Mrs. Maggs, you know--in tears. Poor things! They do look dreadful when they cry on top of powder. She's being turned out too. Poor little woman; she's had enough troubles in her life without this. I was glad to get away. The men were so horrible. Three big brutes came to the back door asking for hot water and went on so that they frightened Martha out of her wits and Cecil had to go and speak to them. I thought they were going to strike Cecil, really I did. It was most horribly unpleasant. But a sort of special constable sent them away. What? Oh yes, there are dozens of what look like policemen all over the place, and I didn't like the look of them either. Swinging some kind of truncheon things, like what you'd see in an American film. Do you know, Jane, Cecil and I both thought the same thing: we thought, it's almost as if we'd lost the war."

This is a naive question, but is it not possible to boycott Deliveroo, Just Eat and all these other delivery companies that employ illegals on bikes ? Or just companies that employ illegals full stop ?
I don't know how it works, I don't have food delivered to my house. I tend to buy my food from the local shops and supplement it with supermarkets for things I have to buy. I don't really understand the lifestyle of people that would view food delivery as a necessity. I suppose they just don't care about us being invaded.
Does anybody else have a list of companies they won't do business with ? I have several ( I've mentioned it a few months ago ).

Sarah Pochin today said Reform supports digital IDs, I hate these fuckers so much. I throw them mental life lines constantly, but they're nothing but wolves.
Not a good move by Reform UK, though it depends what the ID comprises of.

We already have some form of card ID (Driving Licence, Business Cards, Validate type ID's) therefore if that's all future digital ID would be then maybe I'd be fine with it - and under Reform UK I think they'd be far less draconian.

The problem is how the data is going to be used, misused and abused - under Labour it would be an everyday occurrence in order to silence dissenters.

If a Digital ID was needed to access the Internet, and if it would stop cyber crime, stalking, harassment (proper harassment, not 'boo hoo nasty person hurt my feelings') and preventing the creation and distribution of child pornography that would be beneficial, or if an ID card had a QR code which could help First Responders in case of a medical emergency then that is using technology well and beneficially.

What I would never agree to it being used for is as a means of control.

That was the only weird bit. There was a lady staring at us in the pub when we ordered our seventh Appletini. Might've been the drinks but it could've been that we were both sitting on the same upside-down bar stool (with room for two more!).

Boycotts for these kinds of companies usually fail because convenience is a very powerful drug. Some natives think the total decimation of our entire country, history and way of life is worth the biweekly Chinese takeaway.

No exceptions. The party that is going to scrap this shit is what deserves to get in, anything else just keeps us on the path to China with justifications for why the party needs to spy on you whenever they want.

I would encourage these companies if they employed natives who needed part time work like takeaway delivery used to be.

It's a problem with city centre/urban design combined with bone idle laziness. Living in a high rise apartment means you either have no car or it's an enormous faff to get your car out of whatever garage your block has to get to the nearest 'big tesco' which, with traffic, can be half an hour to 45 minutes of driving then lugging it all upstairs etc. Much easier (and cheaper if you forgo the car) to order everything in and get takeaway.

The only shops ever within walking distance are paki shops which don't sell much actual food or maybe a Sainsbury's local where everything is 2X the price.

I get what you're saying, but my point is that if technology can be used for good rather than bad then maybe it's not a bad thing overall.

Yes, I'd rather not have control in society, but it's not as if we can ask those committing those acts which have led to the erosion of our freedoms to 'please be nice and stop it.'

The Government is control mad, yes, but let's also be critical of those bad actors whose actions have also restricted our freedoms - from making forums collect ID on users because previously people have signed up just to be abusive and threatening to others they don't like to full-on cyber attacks on businesses which then had to ramp up their security.

As a pragmatist, I try to see both sides of the story - as much as I hate cashless businesses, I do understand for example why my club is cashless on match days... it prevents overcrowding, it allows people to get to their seats quicker and prevents cash theft. Plus, I can still buy a physical ticket if I want to in advance - that right still remains and the EFL currently has no plans to stop sales of these.

I'd personally take some moderate form of ID if the end result would be no more cyber-stalking, online death threats, stalking and rape (as a result of following a person online) and certainly if the scourge of child pornography ended. Though, I'd sooner welcome stiffer prison sentences for those who commit cyber crimes (and I don't count using Kiwi Farms as a cyber crime at all) and in the case of anybody who harms a child I favour instant death.

If only we could live in a world where controlling the (mostly) law-abiding people wasn't a national past-time and controlling the real problems of society was taken far more seriously.

@EddyRooney The only way that will happen IMO is if Uber, Deliveroo and JustEat have their business licences removed and premises shut down etc. Talking with a fellow Reform UK member earlier, the mood among some of the higher-ups is that they'd do this 'in a heartbeat'. Migration would fall and Black Cab Drivers would have their livelihoods protected.
