A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

In this scenario, people will now be more willing to have children. Ergo as @Otterly was saying - it's not about outlawing birth control but removing the blocks to having kids. Forcing people to have kids without removing the things that stop them wanting kids is not going to lead to anywhere good. And what even would removing birth control mean? Is the rhythm method now outlawed? Is the sin of Onan to be prosecuted as per Biblical times? Will the old Wise Woman be carted off to stop her dispensing her special herbs to young unmarried women?

What do you think happens on birth control? Do you think it makes women who's bodies are already being told they're pregnant to have kids? What about the miscarriages that happen when it fails but birth control causes a miscarriage? Do you think it does women good to spend their late teens into early 30s being faux pregnant and yet never having a child?

Birth control is often a block to wanting kids. It's not a magic pill with no side effects.

They're looking to open a Washington studio which is concerning. GB news being GB focused is one of it's strength. If it goes global it'll become like all the other ones.

They did, and they;
A. Were incredibly poor.
B. Had communities. My parents generation after the war had large families, and in cases where a parent died the kids were sent to other relations who already had multiple kids. There was a whole community to raise children, and there was, after the war, a massive sense of optimism. Things were getting better. The slums were being cleared, there were council houses with indoor plumbing. There was a new nhs. And there were a lot of dead who left space.
If we just take the birth control away we still have no communities, we have overcrowded conditions and depressing conditions
 
The reality is this, right now the average person seems to be spending 2/3 of their net wage on their mortgage, home insurance, water, gas, council tax and electricity.

That one third of their remaining wage has to go towards food any anything else.

How the absolute fuck does anyone expect anyone to add child expenses to that 1/3 given that one of the two will presumably have to quit their job and look after the kid as childcare is ridiculous.

What do you think changes if you remove the alien elements and have a government actively encouraging communities instead of destroying them?

Your estimate is way off.

How many pakis are shitting out kids non-stop and managing to make it work? How many niggers? "Sorry I'm too white to have children. I need more money" while the poorest people in the country are constantly breeding and raising kids to adulthood. You slave away day after day to pay for your replacement and when someone suggests you have kids it's "No thank you, I'm British".

It's that attitude which demands birth control be revoked. If they can do it, you can do it but everyone wants to act like they're the middle class now.

Because there's almost an entirely different system in play between people who have more than 16k in assets and those who don't.

If I didn't have a job and had no money I could get JSA or whatever the fuck it's called now, if me and my partner were diagnosed with a mental health condition we could apply to be each others carers and get carers allowance. If we could squeeze enough out of it we'd get PIP too as well as council tax discounts, access to cheaper broadband deals and a host of other things. Hell if we spent all of our money on fags and beer we could go to the food bank and get enough food to last the weekend. Every single penny of all of this by the way is tax free.

So all this money and no work to go to so no wonder the poor can shit out kid after kid after kid.

Whereas if I had a job and so did my partner the only thing out of all that I'd be eligible for is PIP as I'd be working too many hours to get carers allowance. Me and my partner would be working 40 hours a week, if we're on different schedules we might not see each other as much as we want and 1/3 of our income is taken away as tax before we even begin to do anything. We COULD move to a shithole area with no jobs, buy a cheap house in a shithole area with Somalians either side of our house and use a combination of savings and single income to potentially raise a kid but that'd require moving across the entire country, cutting off entire social networks and so on.

The UK would be a much better place if everyone who has been on benefits for 10 years or more were involuntarily euthanised. The entire UK population is being propped up by Pakis, dole scum and terminal PIP folk.

Only if they start putting women under anaesthetic or giving them strong painkillers for IUD insertion. Anything touching your cervix is painful as hell but for some reason women's reproductive health specifically is the one field where doctors are like "painkillers? anaesthesia? lol nah I'll just go in raw". My sister knows a woman whose IUD got wedged in at a funny angle and was causing her problems but whenever the doctors attempt to remove it they don't bother using any painkillers or anaesthetic and its excruciating so at this point she's just given up on ever having it removed and is just gonna leave it there forever.

I don't think giving any British government the legal framework to kill the poor would end well. The government would just put introduce some bullshit act to debank people who say things they don't like for "national security" reasons alongside it and now you have a de-facto way for the government to execute anyone it doesn't like for being a leech on society.
 
Personally I think it'd be really really funny if people on PIP were recognised as second class citizens and were ordered to be sterilised. How exactly does the UK benefit from mongs producing more mong kids?

It'd lead to the most drastic "wait wait actually I'm neurotypical" from people who have spent the past 15 years sitting on their arses smoking weed and playing Xbox.

Browsing the BBC website I was hit by a sudden wave of nostalgia of getting home from school every afternoon, plopping into the couch (long walk, I always skipped the bus home to buy a sosigge roll with unspent bus fare from the local bakery) and mashing the red button on the telly remote on BBC1 to get that menu up where you could read the headlines. I had no internet access until I was 14 so my news consumption was The Metro during the bus ride and that teletext thing when I got home.

I want to go back.
