A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Fish and chips and Chinese food named Wales’s joint favourite moving night takeaway​

When it comes to the first night in a new home, people across Wales are most likely to reach for a portion of fish and chips or a Chinese takeaway, according to a new survey by family-run removals firm, Tripps Removals.

The national survey of 2,000 adults asked: “You’ve just moved into a new place, it’s your first night, and cooking’s off the table – what, if anything, is your ultimate takeaway choice?”

Fish and chips and Chinese food were the joint favourite options with 22%, followed by burgers at 12%.

But regional tastes varied slightly:

- In England, fish and chips led the way at 20%, followed by pizza (18%) and Chinese food (16%).

- In Northern Ireland, a Chinese takeaway took the top spot with 27% of the vote, followed by fish and chips (12%) and pizza (10%).

- In Scotland, Chinese food again took the top spot (32%), while fish and chips landed in third (14%), behind pizza (16%).

Other takeaway choices mentioned included Indian, fried chicken, Mexican, Vietnamese, Thai, and sushi.

Interestingly, 5% of respondents said they wouldn’t order a takeaway at all, perhaps choosing to get to grips with their new kitchen from night one.

Ben Tripp, Owner and Managing Director of Tripps Removals, which has been moving people across the UK and abroad since 1867, commented:

“We’ve been moving families for over 155 years, and we know just how exciting – and exhausting – moving day can be. The first-night takeaway has become a bit of a tradition, and our fun survey shows that across the UK, it’s the familiar comforts that people turn to most. I don't condone literal violence. I don't think there's anyone here who would, personally, go out and curb stomp an illegal.

However I cannot see how giving these people so many luxury freebies is not discriminating against white people who live here legally. It's discrimination. Where's my art classes and free iPhone and free prescriptions and housing and clothing and food and dental care?

It’ll be the eco settings. You have to find how to turn them off. All the new washers have this bizarre water and power savings baked in, and that means they use more agitation and less water and that will wreck your clothes. But there is always a way of turning it off.
If you can tell me the make and model I’ll work out how to for you. With mine there’s a short cycle 15 or 30 mins. It turns off the eco and uses more water and power. Or for any other cycle there’s a little clock icon that halves the cycle time and again, turns off the ‘use less water’ setting. It’s really annoying.

A Syrian asylum seeker raped a 12-year-old girl above a shop after telling her the streets were not safe.
Mohammed Wahid Mohammed, 22, was working illegally at Villa Supermarket in Handsworth, Birmingham, when the victim, who had run away from home, was brought to the store by a homeless woman.
Wahid Mohammed groomed her with a vape, crisps and a fizzy drink before taking her upstairs “under the pretence of being concerned”.
The girl, who had initially acted older than she was, told him she was only 12 but Wahid Mohammed locked the door and repeatedly raped her.
Wahid Mohammed, of Walsall, was last week sentenced to 12 years with an extended five-year licence at Birmingham Crown Court.
West Midlands Police has now released the custody photo of the child rapist, who wept during his hearing from the dock.

He had admitted two counts of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13 but a jury also found him guilty of three charges of rape, which he had denied.

Judge Roderick Henderson ruled Wahid Mohammed was a “dangerous” offender and said: “There was some grooming although it was limited in time.
“But you exploited her because she was plainly young and effectively away from home.”
He added it would be for the authorities to decide at a later stage whether Wahid Mohammed will be deported.
The girl left her home on Sept 24 last year. She caught a train and ended up in Birmingham city centre around 8.30pm.
Andrew Wallace, prosecuting, said: “She had a couple of pounds on her. A homeless lady approached her.
“She bought the lady a cup of tea. The homeless lady then walked her down Villa Road to Villa Supermarket.
“As soon as the defendant saw her he said: ‘You look really young. You look really cold. Do you want to come into the shop? It’s warm in there, I’ll get you something to eat and drink’.”

‘He only had sex in mind’​

Mr Wallace added: “He knew she was far away from home, there was discussion about that.
“Ironically, he told her it wasn’t safe on the streets. He coaxed her into the shop under the pretence of being concerned. Really he only had sex in mind.”

Wahid Mohammed told the girl to take a vape, crisps and fizzy drink from the shelves, and led her to an upstairs bedroom.
Mr Wallace told the court that when Wahid Mohammed “leant in to kiss her, she said ‘woah you know I’m only 12’. It’s quite plain at one stage she was pretending to be older”.
Wahid Mohammed sexually abused the girl for an hour before they went to a nearby takeaway.
Mr Wallace said: “A young Asian family was there and were concerned about him and her. There was a suggestion an Asian male thumped the defendant because of his concern.
“She pretended she was older. Some sort of Facebook alarm showed she had run away from home so they took her back to where she belonged.”
After being arrested Wahid Mohammed initially claimed the girl had consented to sexual activity before he was informed she was too young to legally consent.
Nicholas Devine, defending, said his client had led a “difficult life” but had never previously committed a crime.
He confirmed his girlfriend had decided to stay with him and support him.

I would agree with what you say. However the comment was made in regards to a man who did the closest thing we have to a school shooting. If they only illegal thing they have done is how they enter the country then yea just ship them back off. But the crimes that spurred the last summer are not crimes that should be dealt with by just sticking them in prison. They should not be tortured or whatever like they would be in the shithole they came from, they should be cleanly and humanely executed by firing squad. People like that, while they may technically be redeemable, do not deserve the chance at redemption. Something like that cannot be reasoned out and unlearned. It must be destroyed. I am not a saint, I am not God, my job is not to forgive.
