A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

That priest (who in the show is depicted as an Irish Catholic oddly) is based on Father Joe Williamson, an Anglican priest who did made it his mission to save women from prostitution in London in the 50s. He wrote a really interesting biography.
Anyway, as you say, this shit has been going on since at least the 50s!
I found this passage on an Article on Fr Williamson and his work with prostitutes.
They operated from the many cafés and clubs along Cable Street which flourished until they were demolished under the Graces Alley Compulsory Purchase Order of 1963 (partly because of Father Joe's campaigning). The pimps were Arab, Ghanaian, Nigerian, Maltese but many of the girls were Irish or Welsh.

This is a description of the mid-50s in London. Why the actual fuck was that kind of exploitative criminality allowed to develop so quickly? This wasn't an understandable turn to prostitution in the post-war devastation. This was imported men exploiting a vulnerable native (ish, in that it's described as mainly Irish and Welsh girls) population of girls in extreme poverty and without local family.

It was mostly legal until the early 60s, when brothel ownership was criminalised - no doubt in part because of the campaigns of people like Williamson. People would have found it distasteful, but there was little legal recourse, and a lot of the people in authority in London would have dismissed it as just working class Irish and Welsh slags, who weren't worth helping anyway. Same as the attitude to the girls exploited by paki rape gangs.

There's bad eggs in every country, for the MOST part they're good.

The Welsh, for one, are mainly great people but if you checked out Wales Online every day you'd think 'shit, what the hell is up with Sheepshaggerland?'

Thanks for that as well, I'll post my thoughts there very soon.
There are only two decent Welsh people, you and Shirley Bassey.

Some asylum seekers misusing payment cards for gambling

Some asylum seekers have been misusing payment cards for gambling instead of their intended use for food and essentials.

A Freedom of Information request made by PoliticsHome, external revealed more than 6,500 payments in gambling settings were attempted by asylum seekers in the past year.

The payments were made on ASPEN cards, given by the Home Office to asylum seekers awaiting a decision to avoid them becoming destitute, with small weekly top-ups.

A Home Office spokesperson said they were looking at the transactions and if any cards had been misused, urgent action would be taken.

When asylum seekers first arrive they are usually first put up in fully catered hotels – and given £9.95 a week on their ASPEN card, rising to £49.18 a week when they're moved to self-catered accommodation.

However, rather than buying necessities, some asylum seekers have successfully used the chip and pin ASPEN cards to gamble at physical sites such as casinos, slot machine arcades and national lottery retailers.

Attempts to gamble online using the cards were made, but were blocked each time, and in some cases, cash withdrawals were made in or near gambling sites, located using the terminal's ID number.

The FoI showed a peak of 227 attempts to use the cards for gambling in one week last November and the lowest number of attempts was 40 in a week last July.

Conservative shadow home secretary Chris Philp said: "It is shocking that over 6,000 illegal immigrants have attempted to use hard-working British taxpayers' money to gamble.

"The British taxpayer has put them up in hotels, and now they slap us in the face by using the money they are given to fund gambling.

"These illegal immigrants clearly don't need the money they are given if they are squandering it at casinos and arcades."

There are currently around 80,000 ASPEN card users in the UK and there are strict controls and limits on their use.

The BBC understands action will now be taken to ensure physical gambling is not possible in future.

A Home Office source said: "If any individuals issued with Aspen cards have succeeded in misusing them in the way suggested, then urgent action will be taken to correct that fault."

Why do we act like these people don't come from a culture built on slaver and sex exploitation of any and all weaker/lower caste than them? This is what they will always do any place they're able to settle.

There are currently around 80,000 ASPEN card users in the UK and there are strict controls and limits on their use.
So we're spending at minimum 1 million a week on these cards. A small top up won't be less than £15 and if it's being used to gamble it's a lot more. Granny has to lose her winter heating payment and the disabled get thrown to the wolves but weekly gambling money is an essential part of the economy. Can't cut that or we might lose.. one of the five ladbrookes infesting every town in the country? If any one has an asylum dumping ground map and a map of all the ladbrookes I wonder what the overlap is.

A Home Office source said: "If any individuals issued with Aspen cards have succeeded in misusing them in the way suggested, then urgent action will be taken to correct that fault."
If you can withdraw cash off the card then there is no control at all. It would not be difficult to design a debit card that can only be used at the major super markets and couldn't buy lottery tickets, alcohol or fags. The black market to trade for them will exist but you make it harder for the layabouts to get their vices and sit at bus stops eyeing up girls to abuse.

I would vote for Reform, campaign for reform and get a reform logo tattooed on my arse cheek if DOGE became a defacto thing in this country. All this crap needs to be wiped out and if we are going to allow people asylum they need to be given the bare minimum to survive. Living in effectively prison conditions with a bed and 3 meals a day. Anything more is inviting being exploited. If you're fleeing a country for a good reason a small room and food for a month while you're processed would be welcomed. If you're looking for a handout you would be better off at home.

USER=173300]@A-Logato[/USER] It's interesting to see where Reform UK really are, politically.

I would dare to say they're now centre ground, as they are certainly more pro-Socialist and Socialism than any of the other parties (who just what Feudalism) but they are also broadly conservative and traditionalist with Libertarian values.

The Lib Dems are trying to move more towards the centre, but are hampered too much by in fighting over Woke and fighting the pull against going too far left.

There is some overlap between the two - both want lower taxes and a lower cost of living, but neither will ever agree on Brexit... Reform UK want it in full, Lib Dems want to re-join in the future (as opposed to Re-join EU who want overnight admission back into the club).

Both, however, do broadly support freedom of speech and both will oppose the Muslim Blasphemy Laws - the Lib Dems on the fact that it's unconstitutional and unworkable (and also they too want Starmer out) and Reform UK will be opposing it because this is still a Christian country and not a Muslim caliphate.
Reinforces my opinion that there is no one true right party in the UK and I've been banging on about the red flags coming from Reform since day 1.

The problem with banging on about the red flags is the entire country is painted red with the blood of little raped girls. Red flags are better than rivers of blood.
True but how much do we believe Reform will actually go to great lengths to solve the issue? They've already ruled out doing a lot of the effective options like deporting people on mass and the party is getting flooded by Muslims who it will be in the best interest to not go hard on that demographic.

Will they do more then Labour? Yes but will they actually solve the issues were facing? No. If anything I see Reform devolving into something similar to the Tories very quickly once they are the ruling party.

If they do then we find a more radical solution.

Perfect is the enemy of good.

This is why I will always say Muslims are the worst immigrants. Even if other communities do the whole parallel society thing, exploiting/warring against/lying to the outsider is completely baked into Islam and cannot be extricated from it. There’s no improving them.
Jezbollah
Jesus Christ ☠️
Also makes me think of a 2025 reboot of peep show where Jez has been talked into converting to Islam and is trying to get Mark to bail him out of Syria.

Well, let's just see what happens. I hope that we are all going to be pleasantly surprised.

Will bring the news later, got to post the overdue reaction to the last Lions game (talk about 'squeaky bum time'!)

Traitor Starmer undermines us to brown people yet again

This is not a good deal. How do I know ? Because Labour negotiated it. All of the crowing regarding "the Conservatives couldn't get this deal done" is completely moot. Why ? Because some people realise that a bad deal is a lot worse than no deal at all.
The BBC article seems astonishingly short on details given its length. As when this was first unearthed, the major point seems to be around -

"The agreement means staff from Indian companies who are temporarily transferred to the UK, and staff from UK firms who are temporarily working in India, will only pay social security contributions in their home country, rather than in both places.

However, the UK government stressed we already have similar reciprocal "double contribution convention" agreements with 17 other countries including the EU, the US and South Korea.
( I wonder if there is possibly a huge difference between these countries and the NI rates they charge and India - possibly ?!!!!! )

Responding to suggestions the deal meant British workers could be undercut by cheaper Indian workers, Reynolds told BBC Breakfast: "I can categorically tell you that is not the case.

"There is no tax advantage for hiring an Indian worker over a British worker."

Extra costs for visas and the NHS surcharge would mean "you'd actually pay more for an Indian worker", he said, adding "no-one is being undercut".

WHICH CATEGORICALLY MEANS WE ARE BEING UNDERCUT.
When will these people ever understand that giving people the same thing, doesn't necessarily make it fair or equitable ? Who gives a shit if we give other countries this deal, the idea is you negotiate a better deal for your side if you can. BRITAIN FIRST. These people have read economics textbooks and swallowed the dogmatic theory whole - they don't understand nuance, theory isn't the real world, or that their job is to benefit us. All this mutual beneficial bullshit is just that - bullshit. This is a zero sum game and in terms of trade we get shafted in these negotiations every time thanks to Labour.

I had to travel through Birmingham recently for work and I have decided in the future I will use alternative routes to avoid going through it again. It is dirty, smelly and despite only being there a few minutes I noticed several thefts.
If Russia nuked Birmingham, it would do potentially millions of pounds of improvements instantly.

As promised (though you might not get any contributions from me tomorrow, as I will be away until Monday due to having some work done on the house internally):
