A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I remember hating benefits and their recipients on principle once upon a time but I think sitting on the couch when I was younger with these on the telly might've contributed to that.


The same media that constantly fluffs up Muslims and other minority groups and are entrenched in Leftist rhetoric for the most part putting on TV programs that disparage the benefits system by putting a bunch of dysgenetic whites front and centre seems contradictory, especially when in hindsight you remember they never put blacks or browns receiving them in the spotlight despite their women being proportionally more likely to be unemployed than white women.

However, if we can encourage more people on benefits into work (even working in the community cutting grass verges or tending to the flowers etc.) then that's an advantage.

Yes, community service, but they report there, everyday, and collect their pay at the end of the day. Graffiti cleaning, street sweeping, litter picking (have fun in Birmingham), grass cutting, rock breaking, whatever it takes. Get their lazy fucking arses to do something worthwhile. If, after 3 consecutive failures to report to community service, they are automatically enlisted and drafted to the front lines of whatever country wants to pay us for meatbags.

However, those who are disabled, legitimately disabled; missing limbs, knackered musco-skeletons, real mental diseases like parkinsons, they should be paid extraordinary high wages and looked after.

That's voting for a less worse option. I'd rather there were NO fucking scroungers. Every single one of them is a parasite on anyone who works for a living. There needs to be a much smaller government in this country. Stop babysitting adults, let them reap the consequences of their actions. The only thing I want from the government is an absolute basic provision of benefits, keep the infrastructure running and defend our fucking borders. The subsequent reduction in taxation would be such a boost to the economy that businesses would be hiring - private sector growth - the only true growth - would ensure jobs to all those who want them ( which should be every able bodied person in the country ).
The NHS is projected to employ 10% of the UK population in a decade. Jesus wept. This downward socialist spiral of an evergrowing government along with the foreign mass ponces must be stopped imediately. Look at the 10 year gilt prices. Look at the national debt. We are screwed.

Yakoob and Afzal were granted unconditional bail to appear at Southwark Crown Court on July 15.

Assuming that the Disability Bill goes before Parliament before the Summer Recess, 150 or more Labour MP's voting against it will mean Starmer's position in untenable.

That will mean removal of the Whip for them and a minority Government which no other party will back.

I would turn this little Island into the envy and power of the world, raise the Empire from the ashes and like the Phoenix, it would rise stronger, faster, more powerful than before. To bring forth a new technological age of free energy, medical, scientific and military advancements the likes of which mankind has never seen. A people willing to build, sweat and fight for the defence, love and growth of the country. A business sector so efficient that it could pay people to do nothing but create art, music and literature for no reason other than it can. Business leaders so flush with capital that they would build towns, hospitals and infrastructure like their forefathers did.
A social program not abused, but admired and adored by all of those from each corner of the globe.

So incredible would this new Empire be that ancients from beyond the veil would notice; The Romans would be in the awe at our military might, The Greeks would nod in admiration at our forward thinking philosophers, the Egyptians would kneel at our monuments that laugh in the face of the impossible, The Victorians proud at what their children have become.

Back from Megacity 1, was genuinely surprised there wasn't any flash protests but I get the feeling it might build up and we'll get them this weekend. Everything from the release of the report has horrified me. I was right. Big Baz was right. Muslamic Rayguns guy was right. The icing on the cake being the 2010 cover up to push the problem along another 15 years so whoever was in charge didn't have to deal with the political fallout.

The sheer audacity of some politicians has added more fuel to the fire. "Think of the victims" is such an evil cop out answer, "The line isn't good, I didn't hear the question" is another. I can't work out if MPs are absolutely fucking terrified and are forcing themselves to repeat the party lines until they can't anymore, or whether they genuinely believe what they're saying.

All I can say is this: There's no unified "Gotcha" that can disperse this, and this is something that'd require about 5 months of interview question training to be able to deflect this. So the next few weeks are going to see a LOT of careers being ended with quotes. They may not know they're dead wo/men walking as they'll still have their seats until their next election, but every single misstep puts more fuel into the fire, and when the next Paki is caught it's going to fucking explode.
