A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

You are the problem you infininigger. You are extracting pareto rent, and your ability to do that is artificial demand on the market, driving up prices. The only party more guilty than you is the bank. I'd put you all in the same concentration camp.
I agree, landlords are a scourge. The second best thing for this country (after the removal of everyone who isn't pure anglo-saxon) is banning the ownership or rental of more than one property.

Some may call me racist, but when I think back to all of the people who have committed acts of terror in England, we have to go back a good few decades before a white (irish) terrorist did anything and they mostly went for army targets.

So for the media to jump straight on a huwhite guy, with their previous during the southport riots and - let's be honest, the absolute need to keep his identity covered up if he was muslim, means who really knows.

Ultimately, that so many people want it to be muslim as a go-signal to kick off, says more about the state of mind of the common man than anything else. We really are a tinderbox waiting for that match to light.

It’s a whole industry. There are specialist landlord insurers who’s business model is based around HMOs and asylum seekers.

The underwriting for these policies come from dark pools of funding who’s source lies in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

It’s part of the Great Replacement.

When I was younger I thought being a landlord was wrong. 'No ownership without use' was my philosophy. I haven't done a 180 on that but the system is loaded against people who don't do things like that. Inflation is baked into the whole system by design and if you just sit on the money you earn, it just trickles away in value. So you have to invest and property is one of the safest means by far. There is a value to renting properties. There needs to be some degree of flexibility for people to rent because they're not able to commit to staying in an area long term, they're not willing or able to buy yet. Small scale land-lording does fulfill a legitimate need.

But past a point, it creates a chasm between affordable smaller homes and the rest which is hard for people to breach. The former all get bought up as rental properties forcing people to try and jump from owning nothing to owning something larger that isn't suitable for renting (as much).

I've not bought a property to rent out (I'm not rich) but I have come around to think it's not always bad. Of course the Labour government were introducing plans to prevent you choosing who you could rent to, so there's that. Like many things, the elites war on the nuclear family is a big part of the problem. People used to think of going up in the world as a generational thing - you'd work hard, build a better life for your kids, get them a better education, leave them your house... So much of that has been undermined. And mass immigration creates a strong upward pressure on house prices. Another reason the property owning classes encourage it.

Hey, chud, right wing extremism is our biggest threat. That and Andrew Tate.

War is peace.
Diversity is strength,
Freedom is slavery.

Sounds very democratic comrade. Perhaps once housing has been shared amongst the masses, we can move on to the means of production ?
In all seriousness, I get that it isn't good that there is a degree of exploitation in the market, but imposing legislation like that is just going down the same route all socialist governments take. Well intended, but won't work out as planned - often having disasterous condequences for those it was meant to help.

Ancient Rome had the same problem with landscalping, nothing wrong with owning your own property or two (unless you're an actual commie), but when it gets to the point we're at now where prices are bloated and the market fucked because every fucking house is owned either by some faceless megagigacorp or some cunt named Dave who has a portfolio of 12 there's a problem, can't not-fix it just cause all regulation is socialism. Make it a proper decree based on "ancient rights" or some shit like that, works well enough for maritime/tree law.

I don't know what "pareto rent" is, but I can tell you I'm not getting rich off of it, and I'm willing to bet that "I am the problem" in the same way that running my petrol lawn mower makes me responsible for global warming.

I don't know what "pareto rent" is, but I can tell you I'm not getting rich off of it
It means you're not getting rich off of it.

Though you are, at the cost of risk to yourself. The rental income balances your mortgage out-going and eventually will tip over to you owning the house. The financial cost is borne by your tenants, the risk (from initial outlay and if you can't get tenants, cost of insurance, etc.) is borne by you. You're not getting mega rich, by any means. More generational wealth that hopefully you can pass on to non-spoiled kids and thus gradually improve your family's lot in life.

You're only the problem in so far as a grain of salt is a problem. Some is good, necessary even. Lots of salt is harmful. The question is more where are we as a society on that scale. And how much the government is complicit in altering the market. E.g. taxes are taken from us to pay for migrant rents in hotels and houses or native housing benefits.

So Tommy Robinson is out and he’s announced he’s going to do another rally in September. There goes the plod fast tracking those second charges.

The start of (hopefully) the beginning of the end of Starmer:

500,000 today, millions tomorrow...
I REALLY hope this happens, but I doubt it will. Most right wing accounts that post inflammatory content online are from India or some shit, so it's possible that they are all posting "Omg I'll definitely be there! Me an one billion of us british patriots jeets".
Maybe there will be 100 or so people? The UK is known for arresting people that are just peacefully protesting something that Starmer deems weally mean :'(so would these many people risk their freedom and livelihoods? I doubt it. But again, I really want this to be real because I loved the UK and I see its potential still.

EDIT: This was on the 24th lol did anything even happen?

The problem is bigger than just property it's the way the stock market and other investment works too. Property has become this weird shielded pretty much guaranteed investment where if you can buy then sure enough it goes up in value 100% of the time. Owning/investing in a business, employing people or really doing anything that drives the economy has been utterly trashed by the ability to short stocks and profit from a company going under as it's asset stripped. It must be near the point where nobody even considers creating a new company or business that isn't just being yet another dickhead house flipper, can see it from our high streets and stuff handful of chains that could go be announced any day that they are closing 200+ stores independent names aren't really a thing anymore.

"Jarvis, give me a breakdown of disability claims in the Merseyside area in the month of May 2025. Cross-reference these with the estimated attendance of victory parades in the same month."

Scousers could be here he thought. I’ve never been down this one way system before. There could be scousers anywhere.

“I HATE SCOUSERS” he thought as let it be rang in his ears making his 53 year old head pulsate as the diesel filled his Ford Galaxy while finishing off his Greg’s steak n bake.

“With a Ford Galaxy you can go anywhere” he said to himself out loud.

There's now going to be a new netflix show based on this and talk down to the evil white male British drivers!

Actually it might have kicked things off, as I know that Cardiff and Swansea had well attended protests.

Despite Left/Right differences, no reported trouble and TBF BBC Wales did report on them and not cover them up 'on Starmer's orders'.

Change feels like it's coming.

I was asking because I didn't see anything about it on the news. Last time, when there were those protests where Starmer basically called white people "right-wing terrorists" and people got arrested, it showed up on the news a lot. Even though my country has nothing to do with the UK. The only thing I saw was that guy that ran over a bunch of people over football.
