A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It's a match day on a bank holiday, this is a worst case scenario for it kicking off, every hour they can get away from the weekend is an order of magnitude of less shit to deal with waiting for it to rain, they can and will do anything to do it.

Oasis's Don't Look Back in Anger is thus far conspicuous in its absence- I guess they only do that whole routine when a turban was behind the wheel and they actually don't want people getting angry about it.

I'm still not buying that it was a White Englishman who did it. I see a lot of news articles referring to him euphemistically as 'British'- This, coupled with the fact that cars of peace are nearly always the muslim MO, leads me to believe there's something else going on here.
 

Meet Ronald Hardman, an 80 year old in prison for kiddy-fiddling.

He was in a trusted position as a Warrant Officer in a sleepy Scottish village for a club called Air Training Corps (ATC) which is for 13-19 year old teens to encourage them to join the RAF. Activities include shooting, flying lessons and trips to Alton Towers (whoever picked the short straw had to sit next to Ronald on the bus).

This included groping the boys in this latest case when fitting them out for their cadet outfits.

The pervert denied that happened. He also refuted other attacks on this victim such as molesting him on a bus during a trip to Alton Towers.

Hardman even claimed he had no memory of this youngster at the ATC.

The OAP further denied any abuse of the other boy including preying on him having got him to come to the squadron hall by lying other cadets would be there.

Hardman also suggested evidence he got boys to swim naked, made them play Strip Poker, look at pornographic magazines or plied them with drink were untrue.

This would seem to be their line of defence.

I doubt that this will be the last 'incident' of the year and, don't forget that thanks to Starmer and company, none of us are safe from this - however, please try to stay as safe as you can peeps.

It'll only be a matter of time before another Liverpool, Southport etc. happens - I would not bet against this and future attacks being deliberately planned against us.

They're currently building / refurbing some offshore wind turbine bases at Swan hunters... far cry from the old days.

The Tyne used to produce more ships than any other river on the planet and you had the Armstrong works so a massive amount of warships were built there.

Fun for about it is that the fleet the Japanese used to destroy the Russians in the Russo Japanese war was built there... A fall from grace and half if you ask me.

Merseyside Police working on theory that the ramming was deliberate.


47 injured but no deaths reported - strange when reported otherwise here.


'Don't put videos of the incident online' - out of respect or because the real truth might not tie in with any spun future narrative?


Might there be a 'wider risk' to people?


A 'recipe for disaster' as a road in Liverpool city centre remained open when others were shut.


An eyewitness and her family only just avoided being hit.

The Premier League, Liverpool Football Club, Everton Football Club, Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard have all made statements about the horrific event as well.

If you live in a society where you can't go out in groups on your streets, that's very scary.
 
I hope this guy is at least some shade of brown and the guy pepper sprayed on the ground was the 53 year old white guy.

If he is its summer of discontent 2 electric boogaloo. If he's white all of the usual suspects will come out and smugly wag their finger at us for being horrible horrific bigots.

This is what the media will call misinformation, even if it ends up being true, because they didn't verify it first. I will say, the guy seems unusually blank in his expression and equally unmolested by the surrounding Liverpudlians, which casts doubt in my eyes on that being the driver.
