A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I sincerely hope this really is just an exercise and not the culmination of Macron and Starmer scheming to get directly involved by sending in "peace keepers". It's the sort of thing they'd try though - the moment there's any kind of ceasefire, rush European troops in and as close to the frontline as possible so they can play "you're not touching me" with the Russians.

Slight PL, I'm in my hometown at the moment for an extended Easter break to see family. it's a traditional Labour stronghold, still almost fully white (god knows how) and working class or that part of the middle class that likes to pretend it's working class despite the fact no one in their family has got their hands dirty for the last three generations. Also has its fair share of crime and other social problems.

I have never seen the government hated so much. Even under the darkest days of the Tories. Life long Labour voters are talking openly of voting for Reform. I've never seen people this angry.

It's not just the gender stuff, it's all the other shite piled on top. We could laugh and say, "well, you got what you voted for" but these people believed in Labour at the last election and they feel totally and utterly betrayed.

Something is brewing and I don't think Starmer will like the taste of it when it' finally served up.

I'm going to have to pause the racism this evening as we're all off for an Indian. Apparently Greggs was voted down for the choice for a family meal.

Isn't Iran a shit hole third world country, and according to most, China can't make shit to work and everyone in North Korea is starving.
Not exactly a 1:1 comparison if you're trying to say Russia is propped up by weaker states, whereas Ukraine is propped up by much, much, much stronger states and, in the case of America, is the largest military and economy in the world. And Ukraine still got their shit pushed in.

It's almost as if the war was a sham to fund more american MIC activity and people cheering on one side or another are mongs at best and disgusting demons at worst.

In all out war, whoever is on America's side will lose. They may have big shiny weapons, but they are brainless retards when it comes to using them.

Not sure if trolling or you actually think Iran is the economic power behind Russia or that the flow of modern weapons goes from Tehran and Beijing to Moscow.
 
Asiatics respond well to humiliation. Hence, if a flagging Britain can expel Russia from Ukraine, we'll have a few more decades of peace in Europe.

Kier can also overthrow the monarchy and declare himself Lord Protector I guess.

Starmer does not believe trans women are women, No 10 says - BBC article

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer does not believe transgender women are women, his official spokesman has said.

It comes after the UK Supreme Court ruled last week that a woman is defined by biological sex under equalities law.

In March 2022, when he was leader of the opposition, Sir Keir told the Times that "a woman is a female adult, and in addition to that transwomen are women, and that is not just my view - that is actually the law".

It’s REALITY you twit. The law used to say men could have a GRC. The law could be rewritten tomorrow to say you’re a giraffe. It’s not reality.
