A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Since it was in the news he is on his way to the white house regarding this I'd guess they'll stick him in a closet with super injunction on the door, do adult stuff then send him home to say he's been a big boy adult and we are now the police force for "the ukraine ™" but no reward.

I really find it baffling how naive so many people still are despite it being 10 years since it was confirmed some law-enforcement infiltrators went to the degree of knocking up their "fellow activists" as part of their work.

I feel sorry for those “spy cops” as can you imagine the smell of the women?

I remember lefties kicking off about hippies getting impregnated and having to explain to them that we didn’t have a functioning far-right in the country because of police infiltration so how would they feel if those operations got cancelled too?

Slice it whichever way you want they deceived those women into sex. I don't care if there was fungus growing on them, the most repellent person in that coupling was the spy.

Pretty much. One thing they seem to have mastered is infiltration and subversion. Shit at cleaning up day to day criminality but great at ensuring the status quo largely continues.

Why infiltrate when there is digital fingerprints? GPS was mandatory on 2008 and later phones. Phones could check in several times during startup on 3g era SIM card software.

I'm going to throw you the contrarian take on Starmer's White House visit: it's going to be a raging success. The police force attract the sort of ex playground bullies who love violence and predating on people but were too stupid and cowardly to make it as a heavy in criminal business. Don't forget that about them.

Police are bad, CID are worse. They knew what Saville was up to and covered it up. The details of Operation Yewtree which were made public don't even begin to scratch the surface of it.

Not a tech expert, but I would expect it to be because of burners. The types of people you would want to track and would need to expend effort to do so would not keep a sim card, device or a wattsapp/snapchat/telegram account for any significant amount of time, and would not commit anything to written form. Encrochat was an outlier here, they kept the same device for long periods and actually wrote what they were doing.

Human sources of information are still valuable, either ones that come forward or sources they plant themselves.

I'm not black, unlike @FedPostalService - I did not vote for the lib dems because I'm a white-working class faggot (pick a struggle), I do not support coloured refugees, only Ukranian. I do enjoy parts of London, every single time I've visited northern cities it has more sand niggers but I will take on your constructive criticism like every UK political figure and do fuck all with it and double down.
