A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Slight tangent on the pubs them southerners have killed the decent ales.
Bombardier, old empire, etc.
They don't like the high alcohol content ales and combined with the high tax on them the breweries are just stopping.
 
What’s the average price for a pint up north these days? I went to some pub in London and cost me nearly £8 for a camden hells lager lmao.

Really depends on what your buying. Your standard bitter like a John smith can start as low as £3.20 but can go a lot higher. Your standard beers and Cider are typically £4.20+ but their going up in price as of late.

Varies hugely. A pint of 80 shilling is still 1.99 some nights in town in the big but nice building ‘spoons, and there are places that charge London prices as well. 4-5 quid for something nice in a nice village pub.
 
With regard to the Axel Rudakabana thing, and the UK police's supposed inability to retrieve his search history, nothing about that is believable.

There are fat cops in Frogballs, Arkansas, that are able to run a check on people's laptops and shit and retrieve that information, they just give it to the nerdiest guy they can find in the precinct and he can bring it back in about ten minutes - I watch EWU and shit, I've literally seen them do it. I refuse to believe that Scotland Yard, with all of their resources are somehow unable of do that.

This isn't incompetency, it's a fucking whitewash. They're hiding something. The fact that that dude said it could 'take years' is a big red flag for me. They don't want a repeat of what happened last Summer, because I think those riots really shit up those in power. I think they're concerned that this might redpill some normies about immigration, and that maybe, just maybe, diversity isn't the strength they tell us it is.

When I think of this, my feelings towards it are summed up by Jim Garrison ( as played by Kevin Costner ) in JFK -

"It may become a generational affair. Questions passed from father to son, mother to daughter. But someday, somewhere, someone may find out the damned Truth. We better. We better or we might just as well build ourselves another government just a little farther out West."

I honestly don't think the truth in all this will ever come out now. There are too many factions with vested interests in the truth being buried.

I hope you kept the skin and bones etc. Get that in your slow cooker with a bundle of water, an onion, a carrot, bay leaves if you've got any, salt and pepper and leave it on overnight. Always get that free chicken stock from rotisserie leftovers.

Kemi Badenoch has taken a subtle swipe at Nigel Farage's Reform UK saying that "strong men have no plan".

Speaking at the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) in east London, the Tory leader said the Conservative Party need to learn from Donald Trump's victory at last year's Presidential election.

Badenoch told the conference: "Strong men have lots of words but no plan. They promise everything and deliver nothing."

She added: "Populism becomes corrosive if it is just rage without thought and anger without actions."

Conservatives are the guardians of Western civilisation. We need to defend what we have. But it requires bravery and not endless compliance at the threat of a legal challenge.

The Conservative Party in Britain has just lost an election. We have a crisis, just like the West. People ask me, what difference will new leadership make? Well, it starts by telling the truth.

A country cannot be successful if its people and intellectual elite don’t believe in it. This means dealing with the poisoning of minds through higher education. We have been naive on economic growth. We’ve been naive on issues from Net Zero to immigration, weakening ourselves and strengthening our competitors.

Immigration is far too high. We cannot support all those who wish to come to our country. The British people must come first. We cannot keep racking up debt for our children. We need smaller government and smarter spending. The world owes no one a living. Millions of people cannot just sit on welfare and expect to be paid to do so. And if they don’t like it, that’s their problem, not the State’s.

Our country is not racist. We don’t need to apologise. We don’t need to pay reparations or give away the Chagos Islands.

Free speech matters. Some cultures are better than others, and it’s only contentious to say this because honesty has become impossible. People should not be afraid to speak out. We will be proud of our country. Most of all, we need to get up off our knees and start fighting not just for the UK but for the West and our values again.

If we get this right, we stand at the dawn of a new Conservative century – with so much opportunity and possibility.

If we throw this opportunity away because of anger or self-doubt, or weakness, our country and all of Western civilisation will be lost. And that is why we, the next generation of Conservatives, must lead the world back from the precipice.

The more she opens her mouth, the more I don't want to vote Conservative ever again. It's like she's a covert agent for Reform, knowing exactly what to say to push me towards them. I'd agree with her that conservatives are the guardians of Western civilisation. But note that is a lower case "c" and that is a very important difference in the meaning of the word. Conservatism yes, not the Conservatives.
 
Is anyone else finding it a little bit challenging to be optimistic about stuff or to see any sort of hope in all of this clusterfuckery?

The scope and scale of Muslims consolidating their power over stuff is vast and only getting worse. None of the parties can be relied on to do anything concrete about it all. I can honestly see a situation where in a few years they'll have enough power to start forcing through legislation to enact a Sharia state.

It all feels extremely hopeless just now.

Then they aren’t strong men. Let the strong men bring the plan then? the last thing the UK gov wants is us coalescing around a strong man. Or woman. They’ve been derailing anyone with a plan for a long time. Even truss was undermined for sensible budgets and discarded, imagine what they’d do to anyone actually capable of leading us out of this mess.
If a strong man was was given the job he’d be sharpening the spikes on London Bridge, and I don’t think any of them would enjoy what followed.
