A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Fuck this “thou shalt always be on the side of the oppressed” bullshit. It’s exactly this mindset that allowed troons to ride roughshod over women’s boundaries.

There is no need for excitement. Nothing is going to happen. There is no money for anything to happen. No one is going to be able to find any money. Things will continue to decay and wilt.

This is the era of the UK's decline into a second tier post industrial nation. Even the Turks once had an empire. Everything ends.

Sounds like they should have started looking when the landlord died. Instead, they've decided to be completely helpless and wait for everything to go to shit so they can beg the authorities to fix it for them. Unfortunately, the reality is local government will refuse to even begin helping until you are literally homeless.

So.... Find another rental property?
I'd guess they're on housing benefit, which won't cover the cost of any properties nearby. They want to get into social housing, the waiting lists for which are horrendously long at the best of times (unless you're a paki).

Maybe white British people should start ticking "paki/nigger/money-sucking immigrant" on the form to get through faster, It's not like the council check or perform due diligence, right?

"On top of the anxiety around their living situation being in limbo, Mr Stothard said his daughter, who lives next door, is pregnant with her first child."

So at worst they'll have a sofa next door to kip on and be free to babysit?

Also, Total Scouser Death. The drugs they've pushed on other towns are horrific.
Six children.
17 years private renting
Landlord dies May 2023
Possession order November 2024
Eviction March 2025

So.....Has been "paying" private rent for 17 years. No mention of a job. Six kids though, so it's pretty obvious what he's been doing and it's not working for a living. The landlord dies ( for any sensible person, the alarm bells would be ringing now - "let's at least find out what the new owners' intentions are" - get as much notice as possible ). But no, appears to adopt a burying head in sand tactic.
Possession order made in November 2024. So phones the council to sort out his problems ?! So for this to make any sense at all, he must be on some sort of benefit to make the rent and feels it is the council's responsibility to house him and his colossal menage.

Why is there no sense of responsibility with these people ? As a "man", why has he fathered six children and not provided a family home, just an illusion ( which in the cold light of day, renting is ) of one ? Why has he sat on his hands when warned that the rental agreement is in danger of expunging ? Why has he phoned the council to take action in lieu of his responsibility ? Why does he think it is the council's responsibility to take care of his family, apparently both financially and administratively ?

tua culpa, tua culpa, tua culpa - you fucking scouse scum.

I'm sorry, but all of you arguing "oh, but he'd be higher up the housing list, if it wasn't for all the immigrants", yes possibly....but why is he on a fucking housing list to begin with ? Why is he renting after all those years ? Why hasn't he taken responsibility for his serial fornication and provided a home for his family ? Why does he think it's okay to ponce an abode from the tax payer ? Why after all these years and masses of warnings regarding the landlords' intentions, does he still think it's the council's problem ?

My patience is done with people like him and I'm going to say it - let him live in a tent - fuck him. Hopefully some Darwinian selection happening soon. The entire article reads like a setup for a gofundme page - as somebody quipped in the comments - "even the dog has a gofundme look on its face" !

6 kids. Total failure to provide for them. And yes, I know, lots of people rent and that is absolutely fine. But knowingly and intentionally having that number of kids when your situation could change - and it can if you rent - is retarded.

Oh and spending loads of money redecorating a rented place is stupidity of the worst kind.

Absolutely appalling that a couple so retarded have shared their genes so freely.

I’ve got a feeling that we are not getting the entire story. I’m guessing landlord died, they stopped paying rent, and they’ve ignored the letters until the court got involved.

Yes. He stopped paying rent, that's why there's a possession order.
The most sympathetic spin I can think of is that the payments started bouncing once the owners probate closed the account

And then the numpty just shrugged his shoulders and thought "well I've done the best I could" and ignored the issue thereafter

It's possible they were actually up to date on rent but the landlord's heirs decided they did not want to be landlords, gave notice to quit, this lot didn't go, and eventually the heirs have gone to court to recover possession of the house to sell it. I suspect that is probably the case here. The constant phoning of the council has been to insist that the council stop the heirs perfectly legally evicting them to sell the house. Which the council can't do. They can't go on the housing list whilst they still have somewhere to live, even if they are being chucked out, so the council can't treat them as homeless until they are evicted.

I wouldn't be their landlord either btw, so the heirs haven't done anything wrong here. This is just the reality of living as a tenant.
