A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

To add from reasons why research is gonna get dicked: UKRI and MRC got fucked in terms of budget by this government, which is causing universities and institutes to squirm.
Associated costs (electricity, taxes, etc) are also extremely high here compared to anywhere else. This all means money is immensely fucking tight.

I think I've said this before but I've had multiple senior researchers tell me that if you want to get money, you get your funding from the US, especially the US government. Because over here it's like... £100k at most from UKRI or such (before the budget cuts).
The US? They'll casually throw $1mil+ your way especially if it involves something of concern (diseases at risk of being weaponised, military-centric concerns in general). Move your lab there? Name your price buddy, they'll foot the bill for every piece of equipment. The US is pretty notorious here for poaching new research companies, teams, and even institutes as a whole.
The only exception I saw to this was Covid, as I know a few institutes jumped on that and basically got tens of millions of pounds thrusted into their hands and made the smart decision to not instantly burn it all.

Also I can gladly say that Great Yarmouth has finally produced something of value in the form of Lowe, so far he's fitting my positions, even the ones that usually get me called fringe here (castle doctrine being one). I don't count penny arcades, crack, or heroin.

As a Swede, I would recommend looking at Sweden for your future with Reform.
The similarities with the Sweden Democrats political party sounds very similar.

"Nationalist anti-immigration party" that starts to cuck on every single political issue while their supporters scream that they're better than the alternative and that everyone to the right of them are evil nazis.
Better to nip that in the bud as soon as possible.

A Labour councillor posted on his social media over the weekend "Conservatives or Reform not for you? Then Labour is!" (Or something to that effect).
I was very tempted to reply "What about The Restore Britain Party?"

I've had a quick peek at some of their policies, but not all of them. I think a lot of people in my area are going to feel like Restore Party is where their vote will be going....if we ever have an Election, that is!

A new housing estate that went up near me a builder who worked on them told me the quality was crap and they wouldn't last.
They are built like crap, it's no secret. Jobs are half finished, plumbing goes to nowhere, levels are off, concreting is of poor quality and not smoothed off, plaster missing, carpets not laid correctly.
A lad I worked with bought a £300k starter home for him and his missus and he was delayed 3 months moving in, then when he got in, had another month of constant fixes. Many, many such cases.

The company that builds the houses get paid on completion. Completion is; is it built and does it have doors, a roof and windows? Mostly. Then it's complete and they get paid.
Another contract is for the fixes, as the construction company moves to the next estate.
Not all of them. Polish criminals made up the majority of foreign-born criminals so those countries were deliberately offloading their scum onto Britain.
That's mainly because the polish made up the majority of foreign-born nationals. I'm not going to defend johnny foreigner, even if their women are mint, but beware the revisionism of migration.

The polish weren't perfect and their mass-hiring led to mass-firing of Brits in the transport and construction industries. That said, for the million or so that came over, they were relatively no problem compared to a million people from any middle-eastern or african country.

I love spam calls. It's one of the only times in my life I can actively call an Indian an unwashed, disgusting shitstain Paki.

What are they gonna do? Report me to the police? I mean I wouldn't put it past them in Starmer's Britain but it does bring me a little joy as I hear them slam the phone down.

Personally I like to put on a really unconvincing indian accent and call them Dalits.
They show in group favoritism but are also extremely retarded so can't tell when somebody is just mocking the abhorrent mouth noise they try to trick you into thinking is English.
The idea that a fellow poo-eater is insulting them makes them berserk like nothing else.
This is also a good method to immediately bypass any sort of indian receptionist if you're trying to talk to somebody more important in a company yet don't have their immediate contact details.

This I can confirm. They're either paid on completion or things like per brick. Basically metrics that encourage them to work as fast as possible, quality be damned.
A buddy of mine got a new starter home for like 250k and had similar problems. Only reason mine isn't a problem is because it's an old build, made in the 50s/60s if I remember right.

The bricks are also cheaply made iirc, thats why they leech salt and new builds get that white crust all over.

Keir Starmer told BBC Radio 2 that there would be no more U-turns. Two hours later the Local Government Secretary Steve Reed announced a U-turn on cancelled elections this May, and the Government is now paying Reform's legal costs (£100,000). Farage has called for Steve Reed (Local Govt Secretary) to resign.

Another crushing fucking L, in a lifetime of crushing Ls.

It's fucking glorious that they've been forced into a U turn on local elections. It does beg the question, however, how could they "misinterpret" the law?

As for Restore Britain splitting the vote, I don't care. Reform are paki,Muslim and jeet lovers. Lowe has nailed his colours to mast an said if millions need to gtfo then that's how it has to be.

For the first time in years there's a party that actually represents me and my views. It won't be just me voting for least bad option or for someone who, politics aside is actually competent and loves the area. It'll give me a chance to vote for someone who wants to enact legislation I want to see put on the statue books. Mass removal of foreigners and ethnic nationalism. Strong defence,no foreign aid,a strong criminal prosecution system.

I am completely for all of that and they're a good foundation on which to start to drill away the moral rot which has infested our country.

More L's than a Welsh A-Z
(That's a book of road maps for the yewf)

I wish more people voted like this, no "Oh I need to vote for a party I hate because strategically it means that the party I like might win", all it leads to is shit like Lib Dem voters ending up with the Tories and getting told "You voted for this :) "

It's looking very likely that my area won't have a Restore MP for election (and there's no way in hell I volunteer) so I might have to completely spoil my vote.

If I'm ever in that position, I'll research the candidates. If they've got a good local presence, live in the area, are visible in it and really up for representing all constituents then to me that's the least bad option. I had one like that in Glasgow. Local man, from the area, made it clear he was there to represent everyone, whether they voted for him or not. I had dealings with his office and they helped me with a nasty job center related issue. They didn't care who I voted for. They cared that I was in a bad situation and they got me the help I needed (and went above and beyond as well- they sent a couple of local party members wives to give me a lift to a food bank and then later that day dropped off a couple of beautiful home cooked meals to me. As stupid as it is, that kindness really made a difference to me).

However, fucking finally, there's a party whose policies are in line with my own beliefs and values and I would probably vote for them even if their candidate for my constituency was the reanimated corpse of Jimmy Saville.

Edited so I'm not a Debbie double poster: people are so desperate to buy a house, they're buying those barrat shit boxes off plan
New builds are bad enough but off plan is adding shit to it. It's absolutely ridiculous.

My sister has embarked upon the purchase of a part ownership of a barrat shitbox, because despite her and her fiance working their assess off, it's all they can afford in their area that isn't a complete bomb.

EDIT: The entire concept of part ownership for housing disgusts me on such a fundamental level that I think that people need to hang for it. I'm not even sure who, but someone needs to.

The idea of it is so repellant to me. It's so awful if the choice was renting forever or part ownership I'm afraid renting would be less bad.

I've been lucky and had some great landlords. Really, really good ones. The last one hooked me up with a fantastic removal company when I bought this place I'm in now and I've referred friends in need to him (no council homes here unless you're a boat scum) as he prices reasonably, repairs are done fast and he's a rare, good egg.

Part ownership is a complete slap in the face. It's insulting.

Ah yes, leasehold in all but name, but you don't even get the rights of a leaseholder. Just endless debt and the threat of the equity owner selling out from under you.
