A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

The more entertaining possibility would be Starmer losing his seat to a Reform/Greens candidate which is actually a possibility given how completely toxic he is right now.

Personally I think he's going to try and weather through it and spend the next fortnight getting absolutely bodied in parliament. The guy is a complete psychopath with not a single shred of integrity in him, he's literally going to stay until he's physically forced out at this point. I genuinely think this retard thought that the 'apology' today was water under the bridge and the scandal is done with now.
If he was truly psychopathic then he'd put his own needs over the party. He wouldn't give a shit if his seat went to the Greens (in Independent came 2nd to him in 2024) but he can't resign/step-down/forced out before July or else he loses his severance.
It might be worth mentioning that June/July is when the other 540 "asylum seekers" are getting put in Crowborough.
>want to leave ASAP
>but not without money
>meander through job until you have an excuse to step down
>order a mass drop of boat-crossers in a Conservative constituency during summer
>since it's summer and a Tory seat, it's likely to prompt a loud response from residents, including protests
>Use that response as a straw that broke the camels back and resign

The real fun is going to be when Mandleson starts talking and directly contradicting what Starmer has said and/or dropping blackmail tier revelations in order to try and save his own skin. I don't think Starmer has grasped (or if he has, he's too bullish to consider it affecting him) that resigning and disappearing from the public view is literally the only way of saving his skin as he'll be out of the spotlight and nobody particularly cares about what an ex-PM did as the political discourse just marches on.
That interview will be dynamite and 'severance pay' will be the last thing on Starmer's mind IF it's found out that he's been a naughty boy in any way.

McSweeney 'resigning' is the logical 'next step' of all this, and then he's free to do a 'tell all' as well.

The most charitable interpretation of Kier Starmer's general conduct would be that he is on the spectrum, most likely Asperger's. He clearly has no theory of mind. All of his human interactions, both direct and indirect, appear to be based on a misguided assumption that pulling on a certain lever will yield a particular outcome. It is astonishing that a man so lacking in social grace and political nous ended up as prime minister.

The Mandelson story is still developing and he may well end-up facing serious criminal charges. Taking this into account, along with any personal or political skeletons of Starmer's that are waiting in the wings, I doubt that his fellow Labour MPs will be too keen on a deal that allows him to kick the can down the road and exit at a time of his choosing. Who knows what's going to break tomorrow or next week? He is stubborn and often extends his hand in the direction of the nuclear option when he feels boxed in, but they are going to have to get rid of him. I doubt that he will go quietly unless pressure is applied behind the scenes.. Whoever takes the reins (I assume it will be Raynor or Miliband) will be fighting on two fronts, against the Greens and Reform, for the survival of the party.

I feel like we are witnessing not only the figurative death throes of a prime minister and the faltering of a style of government that has peristed since the late 1990s, but also the end of the two-party paradigm. In a way it's a reflection of how polarised our society has become.

Politically speaking, to my knowledge going back, there has never been such a scandelous Prime Minister; he makes Late Thatcher and Major look incredibly tame in comparison.

I think he is a person who knows that once his time is up, he will lose everything. We still have the rent boy trial, which I think has a ton of twists in it. We know he is a closet case, and numerous insiders have regarded his marriage as a sham. I think if the truth gets ousted in that, that is a different beast that PMs fear, and that is their personal demons becoming public.

The problem is that politics isn’t polarised at all. It’s all one-party bullshit from top to bottom, with a few added rainbows or vegan options in places. Political parties have become so un-representative of the people that they’re beginning to risk real upheaval.

I’m not sure Starmer resigning, or even a general election, would make any difference at all. We’d end up with a hung parliament and a weird coalition that does exactly the same thing again, over and over. Something fundamental has to change with the power structure in the U.K. for the political landscape to change. That kind of thing is usually a massive war or revolution, and neither is anything we want (unless you like having your standard of living rewound to pre-industrial era).

I’m dooming, I know, but I feel like politics in the western hemisphere is just a huge charade. They’re all scratching each others’ backs, including media and big multi-national companies. Politics just exists to make the people feel like they have a say. We patently don’t, and that’s becoming ever clearer each day. The power structures are now at the point where they’re telling us “yeah, and there’s nothing you can do about it so shut up and concentrate on the next media festival/fake shortage/war far away that we’re supposed to care about etc etc”.

Even if Kier doesn't step down from this, it's my belief the next Epstein files drop will have much, much worse Mandelson emails.
ETA: I also believe the Yanks are holding back files for XYZ reasons and there's some truly awful Mandelson/Epstein controlling the Yookay government shit in there that we will never see.
Someone leaked to Pippa from the Guardian that Keir is throwing a tizzy.
Labour MPs, ministers and party insiders tell me they’ve never seen Keir Starmer so angry, as over Peter Mandelson’s lies about extent of his Epstein links.
But those who know him well say that anger has now turned inwards. That Starmer is, above all else, a man of public service, and will be grappling with his conscious this weekend. Where that ends up, who knows.
Democractic Republic of Congo has agreed to take back illegal migrants after Shabana stopped fast-track visas for citizens. I think I've worked out a solution to the migrant problem, we give all our illegals to the Gulf States so they can stop poaching villages for slavery.

PMs have resigned over less.
I’m reminded of that blackadder episode where they’re talking about how field Marshall Haig is looking for ways to cheer the troops up and blackadder says something like, ‘well his resignation and suicide would be the obvious choice wouldn’t it?’

U fooking wot?
He hates the public, to the extent he is capable of feeling any emotion.
At least Blair had/has the excuse of being a megalomaniac, but Starmer reminds me of HAL9000, trying to follow two contrary sets of commands and going insane as a result (the golem king from Feet of Clay might be a better match, but not everyone reads Pratchett).

There's something very interesting about Wes Streeting and Peter Mandleson being openly gay and also really close to Starmer. If I was a troll in parliament I'd wait until Streeting gets canned and accuse the PM of homophobia and wait for the shitstorm.

They are well known to be friends, I know listing to audio interview (no link sadly) that Wes Streeting said he will have nothing to hand over relating to Mandleson however.

If you want more info on the links between the two

But I think this makes it unlikely for Wes Streeting to be next PM, unless Labour party are even more retarded than I thought and don't see how this would backfire on them.

If Starmer starts rooting out the fabians and blairites, (two cheeks of the same arse) of the labour party and government in general, then he gets my vote.

It's actually funny as hell how the astroturfing is going to prevent Starmer from resigning, I can't wait for him to finally resign only for every single one of those bots to just instantly flip behind the next Labour candidate.

Kinda like how everyone was behind Bernie Sanders until they weren't, or how Joe Biden is a capable president and WILL stand for election until everyone became a Kamala hugbox.

I'd respect him more IF he could do that.

My guess is that talks will happen over the February recess and if, Rayner does pay back the amount owed, she may be cleared to run.

Keep eyes on Norwich South and North East Somerset & Hanham as by-elections in both are going to be forthcoming - this means Burnham still has a chance if Starmer is potted.

Labour MPs are being flooded with emails sent via an online tool telling them to "hold the line" on Keir Starmer

The website, https://holdtheline.org.uk, makes clear that it's "not affiliated with the Labour Party", and says ousting Starmer would hand "momentum" to Nigel Farage. Users are asked to enter their postcode to identity their local Labour MP.

When do we get the bread part of our bread and circuses? Or are we, as a nation, too poor for bread now so all we get is wall-to-wall clown shoes and nose honking 24/7?

The National are alleging Pete Mandelson's representatives sent a notice to all UK newspapers urging them to stop scrutinising his links to Epstein. He is using clauses designed to stop rags harassing grieving families and victims to get journos to stop looking into his funny business. Laura Pollock of published the confidential note from the press regulator, only redacting the IPSO contact information.
LATE on Friday evening, this notice was circulated from representatives of Peter Mandelson, via press regulator IPSO and the Press Association news wire, to all media across the UK.

In it, Mandelson uses clauses of the Editor's Code most typically associated with grieving families or those suffering harassment from the press to urge journalists to stop scrutinising his links to the most world's most notorious paedophile.

We believe it is strongly in the public interest to publish this memo. This is it in full.

CONFIDENTIAL – STRICTLY NOT FOR PUBLICATION: Ipso has asked us to circulate the following advisory:

Ipso has today been contacted by a representative acting on behalf of Peter Mandelson.

Mr Mandelson’s representatives state that he does not wish to speak to the media at this time. He requests that the press do not take photos or film, approach, or contact him via phone, email, or in-person. His representatives ask that any requests for his comment are directed to [REDACTED]

We are happy to make editors aware of his request. We note the terms of Clause 2 (Privacy) and 3 (Harassment) of the Editors’ Code, and in particular that Clause 3 states that journalists must not persist in questioning, telephoning, pursuing or photographing individuals once asked to desist, unless justified in the public interest.

Please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss any Code issues on [REDACTED] or out of hours on [REDACTED].
