A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Kiribati used to have the date line run straight through it, which must have been annoying. Spotting a marketing opportunity in the 90's they managed to have the whole thing detoured, putting them in the same day and making them the easternmost country and therefore the place to see in the year 2000 on the freshly renamed Millennium Island.
Flying from NZ to the US (or vice versa) I cross the dateline 3 times, but it doesn't make the flight any shorter.

Incidentally there's a tiny bit of the USA down there (Jarvis Island):

So whilst it may look like Kiribati is west of the US, it's also north, south, and east. (As well as in the future).

We should start to bill people who visit A&E for minor issues, and we should start issuing fines for people so intoxicated they have to go to A&E. The legislation for that is already there, it's illegal to be intoxicated in public.
Agree. Like others have said we need to bring back Minor Injuries units and wards; PL but i got sent to A&E by the GP (in a taxi) for suspected appendicitis and instead of waiting in A&E, they had some bouncer and a nurse on the door directing people straight to wards or back home, very effecient triage system because you couldn't even get in lmao. Malingerers were told to fuck off at the door. -And for fucks sake, as I've probably complained before, WHY does the NHS have night/weekend hours- why is the ultrasound unit closed on a fucking Saturday? People don't stop getting sick on nights/weekends and having the same amount of staff would relieve the pressure especially from drunk injuries.
Also we seriously need to address the multiple accusations from (white, British) student doctors and nurses the NHS isn't hiring them at all. What the fuck is that about?

Open question I've been mulling over for a while; How does one create legislature to turn away foreigners from GPs/A&E if we said 'NHS is for citizens only?'. If you turned illegals away from GPs they would shit up emergency rooms with their minor coughs, so you'd need security/people to remove them (and we've just seen how turning them away works in Merseyside...) Do we send healthcare bills to their home countries and threaten to close the border/visas for said country if they don't cough up? What about 'muh human rights to healthcare' types?

ETA: the nurse attacked by the Afghan in newton-le-willows claims she was 'nearly beaten to death' (archive is down, sorry)- picture is blurred but thats a nasty gash and her shoulders are all bruised too. He jumped her while she was getting a drink at the vending machine. Police are now guarding hospitals, I imagine foreigners rights to the NHS will become the next hot button topic especially with the recent taxi fare scandals.

If it's tourists, then only allow tourist visas to countries which will pay for medical treatment in an emergency, but ideally mandate proof of insurance for an e visa to be issued.

If it's a migrant here illegally, then my Christmas wish is for them to be here about a day before they're sent home. Here on a boat? Back to France with you, they should have dealt with you. Somewhere else? Into the camps you go.

If it's a highly skilled, highly trained, demonstrably talented person whose knowledge is invaluable then make them pay 20 years of NHS surcharge before they come here. If they're here less time than that, fair enough, refund them (I'm not a total cunt, let's be nice and give them interest as well on the difference). And as with tourists, only allow visas to people whose countries will cover extra costs. Anyone diagnosed as terminally ill or having long term issues when here? Sorry, fuck off home.

As for students visas. No. To the whole bloody lot. All of them can get in the sea. The UK uni system is a gigantic ponzi scheme and I don't care how many people lose their jobs and suffer, the bubble needs to burst and we need to go back to highly limited, quality degrees for academically talented people. Low fees, a good bursary system, removal of all politics from campuses and places only for citizens (people whose great grandparents were born here at the very least) Sorry not sorry if people don't like that, we've tried the little experiment foisted on us and it doesn't. Bloody. Work
.

I really hope no one contacts the police to say that those tweets caused them fear and alarm so he gets sent to prison.

surname "Klein"
It’s a very common German surname and means “small.”

Not everyone with a German surname is Jewish. In fact you’d be shocked to know pretty much every member of the Nazi party had German surnames.

German surname = no biggie
German surname + subversive behaviour + beady little eyes = pattern recognition begins to kick in

Nazi is a jewish invented slur. They were called the NSDAP

They called themselves National Socialists, or Nationalsozialist if you want to be more correct, but they were a bunch of bum boys who bombed my nan, so I don’t care what they called themselves. I’ll happily deadname those faggots.

The vast majority of expenditure for the NHS is from the elderly and those in end of life care. The young and middle aged, as a rule, are net contributors, health spending on tourists is so small it could be considered a rounding error, and students especially are infamous for basically never going to hospital, your proposals do almost nothing to fix any of the issues with the system. Further, the issue of A&E overuse stems from the complete unworkability of the GP system.

These issues are so minuscule in comparison to the wider picture of the systemic issues of the NHS, that you're looking to fix small holes in a bottomless bucket. Health reform is entirely unavoidable and must be done.

The concluding thought of the article
Alaa is not a saint. He is, however, a hero of a stolen revolution, and a potent symbol of hope for millions still living under brutal dictatorship. His freedom is a hard-won victory for justice, at a time when those are few and far between. He deserves to enjoy it in peace.

It's very simple. If they refuse to quote the tweets directly in the article they know they are indefensible.

I noticed when it’s being reported on the telly box that it mentions he hates “zionists” and thr police, but leaves out how much he hates white people.

It’s insane. It’s lying by omission. I’m wishing all sorts of things that should happen in Minecraft on our establishment.
