I know I'm probably ca. 354 pages too late, but this just occurred to me. Shouldn't a super-dooper-awesome-strongo feminist like breebree have kept her last name after marriage? I mean taking your husband's last name is sooooo 19th century and a visible reminder of how men view women as property...right? Right?

The thought recently occurred to me, too.

Perhaps going from Flynt to Wu was the lesser of two evils: an antiquated patriarchial custom, or a definite link to her past as a monied man.

John is simply trying to hide from his awful behavior in the past. It's another thing he and Frank have in common.

EDIT: It's also not certain that John legally changed his name or is actually married to Frank.
