I honestly can't blame anyone who sets one up to cash in on some schtick people seem to like, though. It is more the content of the schtick when it's sleazeballs like Brianna Wu using it.

Such a shame really, things like patreon could/can be a wonderful service for supporting people who have an inconsistent/near lack of income such as web video produces and artists, letting people do what they love for a living and all.
