I am genuinely surprised Wu doesn't make a huge fuzz out of smoking while using one of those long pseudo "femme fatale" cigarette mouthpieces. My guess is that because smoking is so ubiquitous that it's probably never occurred to him to try that angle. And that John kind of knows smoking is looked down upon these days so he doesn't mention it.

I would also bet it's because smoking destroys the image John has been carefully cultivating. That is, the image of a Soylent-guzzling health nut who constantly goes out running. Even if you went with some sort of "femme fatale" angle, smoking isn't exactly known for its health benefits.

That's why he hides smoking and not Ambien I'd bet. Ambien doesn't fuck up your lungs, and while Ambien isn't the healthiest thing in large doses, it's at least seen as healthier than smoking is.
 
Don't women get softer sentences then men for basically all crimes? Not sure why she's complaining....
