it's fun the Chinese and the slavic menace would dominate the gaming market simply by not insulting the customer base I know it's a shock but no one wants to play black ****** lesbian.

This is what the consulting firms probably got when they called the studio.
Hello you want money to put black lesbian mean game don't make money why you not wanna make money why you lesbian why you gay why you have no husband why you journalist why you broke I hang up now you poor you broke I make fun of you

So is the game actually any good? I'm having a hard time finding unbiased opinions. People are weirdly invested into whether or not this game succeeds.
Saw a Gameranx video about it with zero culture war sperging about it that sounded pretty balanced. Better than expected, fun, camera is kind of jank leading to unfair deaths sometimes. I suggest you watch the video yourself though.

Let's look at how a diverse game that came out today is doing

Yikes
Seems the monkey man game is a lot more popular
But this one has a monkey woman!

I despise monkeys so much. They're some of the ugliest creatures on the planet and I hate looking at them. Movies I saw growing up tried to convince me they were funny/cute, but I always found them to be obnoxious, overrated animals — no, I don't support monkey torture at all. I hate that's the assumption today.

I honestly thought the game's reveal trailers looked really neat, but I was turned off enough by the monkey protagonist to be hesitant to play it. I get it. I understand the mythology behind it. Still don't like looking at butt-ugly, cringe-as-hell monkeys.
I feel a million pity to you eDove.

Turns out I like Monkey game okay. I still do not like Chinese tourists, the CCP, or much of Chinese culture.

They can put out a decent game, though.

I follow the Nonbinary Haven group on steam so I know what to avoid buying.

Lmao. I'm already sold on the idea, you don't have to remind me why I'll think about buying it after Denuvo gets removed.
It's one of 4 games they have a negative review for that isn't a sex game (The other ones are NWO Wars, Hogwarts Legacy, and the rittenhouse game)

That's heckin' racist there sweaty! Very problematic...

Question: can I steal as the monkey? This is very important.

Been liking the game so far (I'm on chapter 2, currently a little stuck on Tiger Vanguard). I wanted to get a little autistic about the Souls comparisons.
Elements in Wukong that are similar to Dark Souls etc:
  • 3d action RPG game with real time combat
  • Tough boss fights that like to delay their attack timing to catch you dodging too early
  • Checkpoints you activate and then can fast travel between
  • You heal by drinking a limited resource potion which is filled up at checkpoints
Elements in Wukong that are not like Dark Souls:
  • Gameplay much closer to an action game, the combat is completely different unless you describe it only with the first bullet point on my 'similar' side
  • RPG / Progression elements are very light, there is no leveling of stats, but you do get skill points to put into upgrades like new moves and improving abilities
  • Equipment is super simplified. There's only one weapon type, with some upgrades to it that give it various passive bonuses. There are armors but you don't find them in game, you craft them from materials you find or buy. You do get transformation spells that will turn you into a different creature with a new moveset for a time.
  • You don't have to corpse run. You lose nothing upon death.
  • No online whatsoever, completely singleplayer. No ghosts, bloodstains, co-op or PVP invasions.
  • No safe 'town' areas where NPCs gather and will talk to you. Bigger focus on cutscenes to drive the plot. There are a handful of NPCs hanging out in the world but they are not as big a focus and they don't have any questlines that I've seen beyond "Hey kill the boss over there and I'll give you a reward"

I apologise if I sound so standoffish in that post, was not my intention. I am just tired and becoming apathetic towards the medium as a whole, with that knowledge it makes sense for the suits to add it but to be honest I don't blame the Chinese for trying to get non-physical goods for free given how software companies now are opting for subscription based services and in some cases not honouring perpetual licenses just to get them onto said subscription but that's repeating myself about it being a service issue.
No offence taken. Chinese market has developed a totally different and unique consumption pattern after years of isolation. Any product there has to adapt to that market to survive.
Back to the topic, there are other reasons for not purchasing this game for now, poor localization and inadequate optimization.
Personally I always skip a game like this one with non-existing level design or depth-lacking narrative, apart from anything else.
And, another piece of information for those who care about Chinese politics, CCP has stepped in to dramatically promote the game with its propaganda machine.

While I acknowledge a high level of quality I gotta say this one isn't for me sadly.

Levels between bosses are just linear straight line corridors with the same 2-3 basic enemies.

This wasn't marketed as a boss rush game but it is and I'm not a fan.

Dentuvo is the only thing that keeps me from buying it, yes I know I know it's chink shit but goddamn fast-paced action games like this are like crack to me.

Surprised this hasn't been brought into the conversation: a leaked document from a marketing team at co-publisher Hero Games leaked, which was sent to influencers and streamers ahead of coverage and contains a list of do's and don'ts.

Do’s & Don’ts

DO’ S

  • Enjoy the game!
DON’ TS

  • Do NOT insult other influencers or players.
  • Do NOT use any offensive language/humor.
  • Do NOT include politics, violence, nudity, feminist propaganda, fetishization, and other content that instigates negative discourse.
  • Do NOT use trigger words such as ‘quarantine’ or ‘isolation' or 'COVID-19'.
  • Do NOT discuss content related to China's game industry policies, opinions, news, etc.

There's a 50/50 chance that this is likely fake, as folks on the Black Myth subreddit pointed out flaws with this document, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually legit since there is no doubt that the CCP government is involved with the game's development. And if Paul Tassi is to be believed, the document appears to be sent to streamers and content creators, not reviewers, which explains why reviewers at mainstream outlets never even heard of this.
