If only this thread had the kind of commitment the left has to letting Trump live in their heads, rent-free. I was really hoping for a colossal shitshow.

How did the party that claimed to be the champions of free speech become the hardcore censors? How did they go from being the party of peace and anti-war to being the party of "BLOW DEM UP!!" with their voters largely ignoring overseas violence committed. How did they go from hating the rich and the corporations to being excited over every little piece of product the giant corporations throw their way.
Which honestly is kind of a big deal.Capital punishment has been a fact of life for almost the entire history of the US with an exception from 67 to 77.
I might be taking the wrong meaning from your words, so forgive me. I wrote the following on the assumption that you are talking about the Democratic Party, and not their left-leaning voters.
I'm just a filthy leaf, but it seems to me the fact that the US only has two parties is the problem. Two parties don't skew further away from each other, they skew in the same direction. Together they have now pushed the Overton window so far to the right that Americans wouldn't know socialism if it took their farms by force. The US doesn't have a left and right party. They have a party that is centre/centre-right, and a party that used to be solidly right but is currently off the spectrum and on the frickin' moon.
I'm not saying that Canada, with our two main parties and several smaller parties, has viable chance of a truly socialist party winning government, even if people wanted that. But I think the pressure from the fringe is sort of ameliorated over several parties. If the Liberals want to sway Conservative votes, they won't lose far-left voters in the process, since the far-left have the NDP and Greens to choose from. Since the Conservatives are in the same position regarding the far-right, the Liberals don't have to move too far right to push against them.
The Conservative Party has also fractured and reformed many times-- every so often our version of fringe-right Tea Party types proliferate in the Conservative Party, and they have to shuffle things around to get the crazies their own party and keep the Conservative Party normal.
It bothers me that the Republicans can't reform like that to keep the fringe nutcases out, and the Democrats can't reform so they could actually be a LEFTist party instead of a centre-right party.
Sorry for the novel, I just, as an outsider, think it's weird how strongly people in the US identify with "right" or "left" when the parties are really not that different from each other. Since when did the Democrats ever hate the rich or corporations? Honestly the fact that there has been some flipping on things like military intervention in other countries, and censorship in entertainment, does not surprise me that much. The two parties are philosophically very similar in the grand scheme of things.
Capital punishment was a fact of life in every single country that existed, until the ones that got rid of it got rid of it. It isn't some ineffably American value. Maybe the way America clung to it long after every other Western country got rid of it is ineffably American. The only other G7 country that still has it is Japan, IIRC, and like most states, they use it pretty infrequently.
I don't think it'll be that big a deal when it's finally officially done away with. Like, it'll be a big deal in the sense that it is a historic moment, and that year will be noted forever as the year it stopped. But it'll be like gay marriage. That stopped being a "big deal" to everyone like 10 years before it became nationally legal in the US, except for the gay couples that were literally waiting to get married. Culturally, America had been ready for a long time, and while there are probably some very vocal minority hold-outs about the death penalty, America is pretty much culturally ready to get rid of it now. (At least that's my perspective.)
This makes the delusion that Biden is going to suddenly and forcefully institute communism even more hilarious. Trump's populism didn't come out of nowhere, it was a slow-growing movement of hateful morons that brought him to power, and even then he could barely get any of his policies enacted. Whatever Biden ends up doing is going to be stuff that the Democratic Party has been obviously trying to do for the last 12 years.
On what planet is the Democrats "centre-right", even in comparison to the left-leaned Canadian political parties?
Earth.
With AoC and "The Squad" openly in favour of gov't intervention that startles most Canadians, the vast majority of the Dems old guard about to shuffle off the mortal coil and be replaced by people that think the same way as "The Squad", and every single Presidency since LBJ having accrued more Executive Power and governmental overreach, I don't think you can call them "centre-right", especially with how hard to the left the Overton Window has moved in the last 20 or so years.
The Squad is 4 reps out of like 222 Democrat reps. Literally nothing they've advocated for has come to pass. The Dems are absolutely not a far-left party, and in a global context they're fairly center, maybe center right. They are definitely solid left in American politics, but if you transplanted them to the UK or France or Germany they'd be center at the most extreme
EDIT: My far left friends on Facebook are already poopooing all of Biden's cabinet picks as basically being nicer Republicans lol
My bad but they'd still be center right in any Western country other than the USCan any of you point out where I called the Dems "far-left", because I'm really sure that I specified that they "weren't centre-right".
While dems might be center right by european standards the far right in Europe is largely the same as the far right in the US."Respectable' parties in Europe tend to be more left leaning but the far right is largely the same.Yes there are some differences a higher number of atheists for example but in terms of predisposition to violence they are largely the same. Not only that but full blown paramilitaries are forming like in Bulgaria where the far right has its own so called border defence units.I was genuinely surprised when i realised how many paramilitaries have formed in some countries and how little if any pushback has come from the authorities. If anything the far right in Europe is better organised and has the advantage of closet fascists like Viktor Orban and quite possibly Sebastian Kurz who allow such sentiments to thrive while they themselves are formally conservative centrists. My bad but they'd still be center right in any Western country other than the US
The mere fact that single-payer healthcare and mandatory paid maternity leave aren't planks of their platform automatically would put them on the right in most European countries
I wouldn't describe people like Orban and certainly not Kurz as extreme. Orban is quite authoritarian but he's not some lunatic from 4chan who thinks the holocaust wasn't real and kek memes are serious political commentary. I would, however, say that he is more socially conservative than most Americans (even Trump supported gay marriage). Hungary also has government health care services just like everywhere else in Europe. Paramilitarism started because of massive invasions of illegal immigrants a few years ago. It's a reaction to a security threat rather than a national vanguard to terrorise the population. Bulgaria is right next to Turkey so I'd hardly blame them for getting a bit concerned.
They think LBJ's a kike sympathizer because of the USS Liberty attack. Those welfare programmes are the result of Lyndon Johnson's Great Society and were continued by Nixon and Ford. It wasn't some kind of Jewish conspiracy to start them. I agree that Democrats are much more keen on promoting welfare, though.
I always believed that Obama was in spirit far further to the left than he ever made obvious. But due to the nature of getting elected he tempered his leanings quite a bit taking a very centrist position. His 'guns and Bibles' speech in 2008 was probably the only time he actually hinted at his 'real' opinion about conservatives. But its noteworthy that it came before he was president and before he was nominated for the democrat party ticket.Basically had Obama been able to get elected while running on trully far left political positions he would have. But he was smart enough to know that wasn't feasible. There's a difference between what you believe in what you can realistically do.I wouldn't describe people like Orban and certainly not Kurz as extreme. I disagree that Biden is centre right, though, since he seems to think the Polish and Hungarian governments are extremists, which they aren't. They're social conservatives but they're not going to start murdering their populations like Stalin, or implement policies like some of the lunatics we have on this website who want to repeal women's suffrage. I'd put Biden down as a centrist like Obama.
The massive air strike at the start of the 6 day war was against Egypt, not Syria. Israel decided to strike first and destroy the Egyptian air force because the Arab coalition of Egypt + Syria + Jordan was significantly stronger than they were at the time. They think LBJ's a kike sympathizer because of the USS Liberty attack.
Of course, Israel completely apologized for the incident, paid the repair bills for the ship and sent millions in reparations to the survivors. The Isreali government most likely saw what happened with the Gulf of Tonkin incident (i.e. the US faked an attack to get involved militarily in Southeast Asia) and knew exactly what was up, It was even worse in fact, since at least no American actually got hurt in Tonkin while LBJ more than likely paid off an Israeli general to blow up his own ship.
It practically forced Israel to go into overdrive with their military actions against Syria, and it's probably called the Six Day War because the Tonkin Resolution was signed by LBJ eight days after the Tonkin incident.
They can, but the government of Bulgaria would take a much dimmer view of them if they started causing unrest within the country. It wouldn't be a wise move.I always believed that Obama was in spirit far further to the left than he ever made obvious. There's a difference between what you believe in what you can realistically do.
Paramilitaries can change their target quite easily. One thing about 'politically motivated gun clubs' is that they tend to be ambitious.Being the leader of such a movement pretty much makes you want more. Its very easy for a paramilitary to start by targeting foreigners and move towards the internal enemy.
Political fanaticism has rarely cared about the balance of forces.Plus it all boils down to how much your average cop and or soldier is willing to fight to defend the regime.Paramilitaries have rarely cared about how outgunned they were for the simple fact that even defeated a movement can come back stronger than ever.If anything being willing to fight for a cause can easily bring you brand recognition.Plus its not like if you get arrested they're gonna shoot you for sedition/treason.Even prison isn't really bad for politically motivated criminals.Due to their notoriety such individuals are always kept segregated from general population and are kept close to one another.Prison for them is basically a hotel stay during which they can publish their manifesto gain new followers hopefully even get an early release.Even McVeigh had a pretty sweet time behind bars. The only more awkward moments were when the Unabomber criticised him for the severity of the bombing which he viewed as excessive. The massive air strike at the start of the 6 day war was against Egypt, not Syria. Israel decided to strike first and destroy the Egyptian air force because the Arab coalition of Egypt + Syria + Jordan was significantly stronger than they were at the time.

There's a huge paradigm shift happening at the moment. Democratic presidential nominees have been getting more and more of the richest counties while losing more and more of the rest of the country. This was accelerated after Trump won in 2016, because when it was pointed out he won a lot of the working class, Democrats began attacking them like Movie Bob. The Democrats are now the party of the rich elites.I wish I had a definitive answer because it baffles me.
How did the party that claimed to be the champions of free speech become the hardcore censors? How did they go from hating the rich and the corporations to being excited over every little piece of product the giant corporations throw their way.
The only thing I can think of to explain it is that the politicians themselves don't really give a shit and will say and do whatever it takes to get elected, which is why they flip flop so much. They go with whatever will get them votes and/or support at the moment. As for the Dem voters, they have probably been successfully programmed into simply wanting their side to win, and as long as a Dem is in the White House, then its all sunshine and rainbows.
Again, I don't have a definitive answer. This is all I got.
Said it in the retardera thread but watching it slowly dawn on those tards that the DNC and Corporate America's wokeness is as fake as Jenna Jameson's tits and the ensuing chimp outs as they are thrown away like a used jizz rag will be just as funny as Trumptards going #NotmyPresident during Biden's administration. The Squad is 4 reps out of like 222 Democrat reps. It depends on whether Biden (or Trump) gets his way with 230 or if a divided government stops that.Said it in the retardera thread but watching it slowly dawn on those tards that the DNC and Corporate America's wokeness is as fake as Jenna Jameson's tits and the ensuing chimp outs as they are thrown away like a used jizz rag will be just as funny as Trumptards going #NotmyPresident during Biden's administration.
Here's hoping the farms survives so I can gleefully mock it all.

Could it be possible that the phrase “dark winter” has some sort of deeper meaning that most of us are not meant to understand? We have heard that phrase over and over again in recent weeks, and usually it has been used in discussions regarding the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic. But it also turns out that “Dark Winter” was also a code name for a high level simulation that was conducted back in 2001. That simulation envisioned a scenario in which a widespread smallpox attack was unleashed inside the United States. As you will see below, the simulation was “designed to spiral out of control”, and the hypothetical consequences were absolutely disastrous.
The reason why this is a concern is because so many of these “simulations” and “exercises” end up mirroring real life events that happen at a later date.
For example, most of you have probably heard about Event 201 by now. On October 18th, 2019 a group of prominent individuals gathered in New York City to simulate what would happen during a worldwide coronavirus pandemic…
Event 201 simulates an outbreak of a novel zoonotic coronavirus transmitted from bats to pigs to people that eventually becomes efficiently transmissible from person to person, leading to a severe pandemic. The pathogen and the disease it causes are modeled largely on SARS, but it is more transmissible in the community setting by people with mild symptoms.
Of course COVID-19 started spreading in China just a few weeks later.
We have seen this same pattern happen so many times, and now we are being told over and over again that a “dark winter” is ahead.
For example, Joe Biden specifically warned us about a “dark winter” during the final presidential debate in October…
Joe Biden warned at Thursday night’s presidential debate that the U.S. was “about to go into a dark winter,” echoing the concerns of public health experts who caution about increased daily Covid-19 case counts converging with the annual flu season.
“We’re about to go into a dark winter. A dark winter,” Biden said. “And he has no clear plan, and there’s no prospect that there’s going to be a vaccine available for the majority of the American people before the middle of next year.”
It is interesting to note that he repeated the phrase twice.
It is almost as if he was determined to make sure that he said it correctly.
And then he started using the phrase over and over again on the campaign trail and he kept using it even after the voting was over.
For example, here is an instance where he used the phrase on the Monday after the election…
Joe Biden on Monday warned that a “very dark winter” is approaching as the U.S. coronavirus case count nears 10 million.
“There is a need for bold action to fight this pandemic,” Biden said in Delaware. “We’re still facing a very dark winter.”
