FINALLY a thread on this ginormous FAGGOT. God damn it, he's my favorite hatewatch, honestly I hope he gets brain AND lung cancer but continues to make videos as long as he stays alive so I can watch him slowly wither away.

I'm feeling strong autism on this one.

"He said 4chan was “toxic and problematic,” yet also “where most internet humor draws back to — all of us are guilty of that original sin, in a way.”

He chalked up the backlash he has faced to jealousy. “There’s an element of, ‘I would like to be in that guy’s shoes,’” he said. “Maybe people feel like I’m not entitled to my platform.”"

Anthony, you realize those grubby chantard incels STARTED your career? You would be a another failed internet reviewer without the exposure they provided. They jumped on your nuts then reddit followed suit and got you big views. You were born from the nuts of "problematic white male" side off the internet. Also dude no one is jealous they think you cucked out and became another pitchfork hipster loser. No matter how much you try you will never be able to rewrite your origins. You started on 4chin you will always be on 4chin

Fantano is the definition of a clout-chasing sellout. In addition to what has already been mentioned here (ripping off /mu/ posts for his reviews, changing his content and presence when confronted with heat from a dead music rag), the dude used to do AMAs on /mu/ and referenced board culture directly in his videos (main one I recall is a cutaway skit of his referencing /mu/'s "get out" image macro).

Fantano was most actively involved in /mu/ during /mu/'s tripfag era (~2012ish) when there was a regular cadre of pseuds providing their hot takes. That was a time of wild fart-huffing and autism about something that is extremely subjective. I always thought Fantano's takes were a rather boring, cookie cutter versions of stereotypical /mu/ posts and to see where he is at now is no surprise to me--he has always been a insecure poseur looking for validation. Now that he has managed to craft a career from his humble beginnings as a college radio jockey/pizza waiter, the financial motivation has really driven him to play it safe now when it comes to the music scene (which is funny given the woke beliefs he has chameleoned himself into).

Ironic or not, Olivier Tree was right on the money calling out Fantano for his meaningless reviews and the tired perspective of the critic who critiques something while having a limited understanding of its mechanics. Fantano's critical approach, whether he wants to admit it or not, reeks of a consumer, not a creator. A consumer oriented perspective has its merits, but realize that Fantano creator perspective is really just the very dull, safe format that is theneedledrop and hardly that of an actual songwriter or engineer. The difference between the aging hipster that wants to be cool and the craftsman that wants to build. Thus, Fantano is much more focused on the actual feeling and lyrical content of music rather than the craft of songwriting itself. One of the best examples I can think of would be John Mayer where a lot of music critics hate him and some more shallow musicians avoid him because of his bro-pop songs and controversial statements, but a lot of storied musicians (Pino Palladino, Grateful Dead, people who worked with Stevie Ray Vaughn) who are concerned with the actual art of crafting music collaborate with him and praise his work (mainly live shows and his work since and including his Continuum album).

Ultimately, music criticism is just a highly vapid form of critique and my personal opinion is that its pretty worthless outside of the entertainment value of the review itself. Music is so cheap and accessible now (which IMO contributes to the flash-in-the-pan nature of so many musicians in the "indie" scene who seem more interested in soon to be dated political takes than actually creating interesting music. I doubt anyone will give a shit about Parquet Courts in a few years just like no one gives a shit about punk bands from 10 years ago but a contemporary act like Covet will be remembered). Its very easy to listen to a song for a few minutes (or put on an album you find on youtube for 20 minutes if its something like jazz or fusion) and come to your own conclusion. If you feel like you need some guidance when trying to get into a new genre, just look at some catalogs on rateyourmusic to get a feel for what you should check out.

And if you want to view some musical takes that actually entertaining rather than the boring, safe takes of Fantano, CLT from /mu/ was capable of the most autistically labored, entryist, takes for why his musical taste was superior to yours.

How do you let Mario Judah overshadow you in your own interview? Even your interview with your clone Logic wasn’t as ridiculous as this.

Who even is this person? Did Anthony somehow get overshadowed by an honest to God no name?

Keep in mind, this guy kept trolling Playboi Carti last year to release his Whole Lotta Red album, or he’d do it himself.

And when it was finally released, he didn’t even like the album that much:

Instead, before this, he’d just made a parody of it, with only four songs.
