I could say the same thing everyone else has and is about how yeah, I used to watch him back in the days when he was just a pretty alright music reviewer and wasn't cucked over by forced progregsthive polliticks to save face after the Fader thing.
I never liked him. It's exceedingly rare to find any professional critic who isn't a complete shill and/or total fag, and he was never an exception to that. It's not even a modern phenomenon. He's exactly the sort of creature who's always gravitated towards that type of career.

Anyone who wants to review media as a job are always retarded psychos, with the exception of Red Letter Media who are singlehandedly saving the white race.

NYT ran an unbelievably dull story about Fantano. Not really worth the read but posting for posterity. The only part worth reading is buried towards the end an it's just more of him shitting on fans.

Fantano said he started that channel to make more money from YouTube, and acknowledged that there were some “grubby, close-minded, young, aggressive male types hovering around the content.” (The Needle Drop’s audience on YouTube is only 6.5 percent female.) He said 4chan was “toxic and problematic,” yet also “where most internet humor draws back to — all of us are guilty of that original sin, in a way.”

He chalked up the backlash he has faced to jealousy. “There’s an element of, ‘I would like to be in that guy’s shoes,’” he said. “Maybe people feel like I’m not entitled to my platform.”

The NY Times is trying to make /mu/ on 4chan a boogeyman, yet I’m surprised they didn’t take a look at RateYourMusic. Only reason this is a NY Times article is because the same politics the Times has, they’re trying to reach out to people with radical like politics that makes that same paper a shell of itself.

I've noticed (and pretty much everyone here) that morons like Fagtano and everyone else who parrots that "hurrr if you dont vote youre stupid/racist/boring" never even bring up why anyone should vote, besides something vague like making a change. Always felt like all the shit he's said since the fader article has been forced as fuck as if he's trying his hardest to be "one of the good ones" as possible.

The guy used to defend Pepe the frog memes from the stupid "alt-right" accusations (twice, didn't he do two whole videos on that?) and now he's the one calling them that himself, as evidenced by the OP and this Times shit. That's why I'm still kind of on the team of this being part of his forced "rebranding" because of the Fader thing.

Unless I was just too young and naive to see he was a slimeball all along. I dunno. Could be a bit of both, I'd believe that. I haven't watched his older output in a very long time. Maybe re-watching it might show cracks I didn't recognize earlier. *sigh*

A lot of "influencers" (God I hate that word) both online, and actual famous people, are repeating the whole reminder to vote script just because they wanna pat themselves on the back like they're making a difference by regurgitating it. Meanwhile most people who are voting age already know you're supposed to do it. We got billboards and signs on bus stops (at least, where I am) telling people election month is soon. The smarmy repetition accomplishes nothing...except maybe getting a few people not to vote (or at least, not to vote the way someone like 'Tano would want you to, ahem...) out of spite. It's 2016 all over again.

Anthony Fantano is to put it simply, either a pussy and or a grifter. When a bunch of pink haired freaks called him ""alt-right"" back in 2016 and 2017 and he bent the knee like a little bitch and has changed and turned into an egotistical and insufferable faggot. Also, from 2016 to 2020 we went from SJWs which I now refer to as the cringe fringe being ridiculed and mocked to having the entire left be hijacked over by these said cringe fringe shits. Personally, I think Anthony's more of a coward than a grifter.

Also, for John Entwizzle, the term """influencer""" was made up by very minor e-celebs on instagram if I'm not mistaken, to make them sound more important than they actually are. I may sound like a fucking boomer for saying this, but I hate how terminology on the internet is changing from e-celeb to "influencer". These people aren't influencing bear shit in the god damn woods. I unironically hate that term quite a lot because it inflates the egos of retarded e-celebs who are narcissistic and egotistical to the umpteenth degree. You don't influence shit, you're an e-celeb. Someone on the internet who happens to be worthy of note to a large chunk of people.

Influencer is a marketing term, it wasn't invented by eCelebs for clout but rather the other way around: agents, marketers, and handlers had to invent a term to explain how Gwyneth Paltrow could exist in her current form. Over time the definition of influencer has just expanded to anyone who is popular online and has a devoted fanbase, but you can see how the original intent was to describe how someone's recommendations and influence could actually inspire action from an internet presence. It's still going strong in the world of fashion and maybe beauty care products, but not much else anymore.

I work in marketing and have worked with various influencers before, and the main reason it's dying out is because the current crop of popular streamers and YouTube clowns struggle to actually get people to do things. This is largely due to inflated follower counts and bots (Twitter is trash, YouTube isn't much better, Instagram is pretty much all anyone cares about) but the other side is that people can tell when they're not genuine so that assumed familiarity doesn't work as well. They all overplayed their hand. I've dealt with Influencer Agencies and it's just a fucking nightmare, many of them are just pimped out like "just give us your script they will read whatever you want."

"He said 4chan was 'toxic and problematic,' yet also 'where most internet humor draws back to — all of us are guilty of that original sin, in a way.'" Holy shit I cant help but imagine hes sucking himself off for thinking this line is some deep revelation. Why the fuck should we care that a lot of our modern internet humor came from a website that is basically 1000s of monkeys banging on a typewriter? At the end of the day people are gonna make fun of shit and not be nice about the subject they're mocking and no amount of insincere repentance is going to change it.

“grubby, close-minded, young, aggressive male types hovering around the content.”

Grubby - gotta start with an adhom. Pretty much expected from someone so...
Close Minded - Uh Fantano? Pot & kettle buddy.
Young, aggressive male - Doesn't this nigga spend all day being passive-aggressive on Twitter? Given the option between tolerating that and being told to "do a flip faggot," i'll take the outright agression every time.

I thought the "soy makes you a pussy" meme was junk science but maybe he should lay off the tofu for a bit.

That is a good point, though I also believe that since The NY Times is trying to blend in with same group of people that watch Fantano in the first place (18-24 to be exact), I don’t think this was done on purpose. It’s intentional for them to make Fantano the only person to get musical reviews from, since so many little read Pitchfork.

Apparently "the internet has made it uncool to be a Fantano fan". He has a decent bit of awareness here actually, not sure how much is cope and how much is him actually turning around, who knows.
He seems to think that his opinions, or his fan's treatment of his opinions, is the main cause of the poor regard many hold him in. That is part of the story, but only a small bit. Other than the occasional "Fantano is wrong about x" take or vitriol coming from a specific community (both Hip-Hop and Black Metal fans seem to really hate him, for example), most of the reason people dislike him is that he's become a bit of an SJW after the FADER controversy. Fantano has always been a leftist, but he had long had a habit of being fairly edgy and counter-cultural (go back and watch any Thatistheplan video, for example). Now he seems to have cucked out to the establishment and become utterly non-offensive. People have taken offense to this heel turn. Failing to address this either shows a lack of self-awareness, or a desire to divert from the issue .

Yeah, cause it's fun to be a shitposter, and not a shitty poser like you, Fantano.
